 | DrEntropy (40) 01/03/2007 | The history of Mexico, like that of Latin America, is a seemingly endless series of conspiracies, invasions, wars, revolutions, insurrections, tyrannies, banditry, anarchy and massacres. However (unlike most Latin American nations) by the mid-20th Century Mexico had managed to create a unitary national identity, a relatively stable political system, a remarkably vibrant culture and a reasonably stable economy. Unfortunately, these accomplishments became endangered by corruption and overpopulation in the 80s and 90s, and Mexico's future prospects are highly uncertain. Given that Mexico will have a greater impact on the US in coming years than nearly any other country on earth, educated Americans should learn a little about its history.
