Prophecies of Nostradamus

He ciphered some mumbo-jumbo predictions so not to make an a*s of himself when proved wrong ("you interpreted it in the wrong way").

If I wrote down a thousand predictions and a few hundred years later some people were willing to broadly interpret them and try to link them to things that had already happened, I'm sure I'd get some of the crap right too. There was a special that came out somewhere around 1976 or so showing all the things that Nostradamus predicted. They were bold enough to use some of his writings to predict what would happen over the next few years. No surprise none of that happened, though they did say something about an evil man from the Middle East that would start World War III. First that was the Ayatollah Khomeini, then it was Khadafi, then it was Saddam Hussien. I guess that might be linked to Ahmadinejad at this point. The Hister/Hitler thing is pretty neat, but when he wrote so much and there is only one thing you can really point to that's hardly worth calling him a seer.

He had a certain way of creating a striking image every now and again in his quatrains, but I regard them as interesting but totally inscrutable ruminations by a fairly decent poet instead of a seer...My own guess is that he had dreams of Justice League Fictions but had a hard time translating them into French.

For those with a disposition for conjecture. No time for them myself.

Let me give this a try.  "And then some people of a region to the west of the great ocean of Atlantis will quadrannually gather to make a precipitous decision affecting the out come of major events that will have consequences for the future.  And a dog named Charlie will befriend a cat named Rufus."  Pure genius!

GenghisTheHunadamus makes this prediction. An asteroid is gonna strike the earth. I then add a few lines of crappy verse. As the centuries roll on, this will eventually come true. You heard it here, first. (How DID ol' Genghis do it?)

Crapola. Nostradamus predicts outcome of 2008 Presidential election. Turn to page 11 for details. Right beside the picture of Satan coming out of an oil well. Make it stop.

The sports prophet Chokestradamus is more accurate...

Although this man somewhat predicted Hitler, his predictions were very vague. Too much hipe for a sharlot!!

So vague and ambiguous you can read anything into it after the fact, much like the so called prophecies of the bible.

Growing up, without ever actually READING his "prophecies" (which I still haven't), I always had the notion that Nostradamus was in some way inspired, or maybe an actual prophet, and that there was a lot of truth to his predictions. In the last few years I've seen a few documentaries about him which have significantly altered my opinion. One show about him that, I believe, was on the history channel a few years ago, took place in a classroom where a number of very unbiased and intelligent college students deduced and broke down a lot of his prophecies. This "classroom discussion" altered my opinion even more. As a Christian, I realize that one of Nostradamus's mistakes was that he very apparently got into the occult at some point in his life. Unless you are some sort of "genius" like Penn&Teller;, (wish they would BOTH be mute), it is obvious that he can fortell the future, right? Actually, most of these prophesies are so obscure that it is too hard to actually tell what he was communicating. Yet, one quatrain, he mentions Franco by name, and Hister may actually be Hitler. Too intriguing to dismiss, unless you are a total "skeptic", (and thus have not had an intelligent, non dogmatic thought in years...)

Don't dismiss as interpretive nonsense. Nostradamus has made some amazing predictions in his quatrains. He nearly called out Hitler by name [Hister]. In life, an amazing man whom as a doctor helped eradicate bubonic plague in France. WAY too much has been made of this hogwash.The length some of his admirers go to to stretch his wording to mean something significant that actually transpired is astounding.Given THAT much slack,a Popeye Cartoon looks Prophetic.

Not all that amazing in that they are very broadly written and many are made up (several verses of the 9/11 doomsday prophecy made in the wake of the event) and are very poorly translated into english from already crude french.

In 10th grade, I watched a video on Nostradamus that left me scarred for weeks. I always wonder, am I just being fooled by a few cryptic quatrains fortelling a disastrous future? I hope so...but the Hister thing gives me goosebumps. I try not to think about this subject too much.
