Don't know about the rest of Czech, but Prague is just excellent!

I visited the country several times over the years. It is simply beautiful and convenient for the travellers. Food is delicious, and people are very friendly. Prices are reasonable. Prague is definitely the first choice, but we did drove to the countryside to see castles and nice views. Roads are not terrible, but do not expect to see there US Highways or German Autobahns.

Well let's start off with Prague - the central area is supposedly what Paris looked like in the 1920-30s and is indeed very picturesque...until the hordes of boozed up stag parties swarming in from Northern Europe begin to coat the streets with their stomach contents. The outskirts are as hideous as you might expect from an ex Commie state, with semi-derelict high-rise apartments scarring the the region. As for the people. Well, there is a abnormally high proportion of very good looking young women, which explains why there is now a high preponderance of Czech girls in the international porn biz and also in their own home-grown prostitution industry. Problem is, good looking many of them are, my God don't they know it! I have to say that as with most people from Eastern Europe, I find Czechs to be generally pretty aloof. Outside of Prague, much of the country is quite pleasant with some very beautiful scenery. Of particular interest to some will be the towns of Budweis and Pilzen. No p... Read more

Prague is magical, the student bars are wonderful, the vistas endearing.

I had the providence to visit Prague in 1990, right after the fall of communism. In a central square I remember wax piled a foot high from a candle alter that commemorated those who died in the struggle against the communist. These people are wonderful the cities are awesome.

This country is overrated by an awful lot of folks, in my opinion. Comments based on two visits to Czech Republic, 1998 and 2003. People generally seem to have an overinflated sense of their own importance (possibly fed somewhat by a lot of tourists fawning over the sights in Prague, which are by no means the best in that part of Europe). Prices are not all that cheap (as of late 2003), and there is a tendency for merchants to gouge if and when they can (in Prague). Traffic is somewhat chaotic, hotels are pretty good, and service is good but not particularly outstanding. Food is not bad, but too often restuarants are full of really strong cigarette smoke which detracts from enjoying the meal. Countryside is beautiful in places, but I prefer Slovakia for scenery. Czechs seem to weigh everything in terms of making a profit - check their record in WW II when they basically folded to the Germans rather than fight. It probably made great sense in business terms (Prague was the only ... Read more

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities. The people are friendly, the food is great, and everything is cheap.
