This should be a very close race. Former Denver D.A. John Ritter has run a very good campaign, positioning himself as a conservative Democrat. In fact, he's a few points ahead in the polls over his opponent, Congressman Bob Beauprez. Some Democrats don't like Ritter's pro-life positions on the abortion issue, but being pro-life ought to help him in the more conservative areas of the state. Beauprez's views are more or less in line with the majority of the state's voters.

Although the state leans Republican, it has been becoming more Democratic in recent years, as population growth brings in new demographics. In 2004, the state legislature went Democratic and the voters elected a Democrat to the US Senate. This race right now leans towards the Democrats, but the Republicans have fielded a good candidate who will make it tight.
