I am having the opposite issue with the change in filter. In my neck of the woods the Marlboro 72's lights were sold with a brown filter, now its a toss-up if you get a brown or white filter. To me, the white filter is more harsh. I always end up with a rhaspy dry cough after a pack. When i first got a pack of white filters there was a difference in packaging, the brown filters had "LIGHTS" on the front. Now the packages are identical. What exactly is Philip Morris trying to pull?

I read too many of these reviews...pretty much all are stupid. I smoke red 72's daily, and since they came out. I smoke them with the fire safe paper, and Ive smoked them without, guess what? they dont taste any different!!!! 72's are actually stronger than regular reds, in that you "freebase" more nicotine than you actually inhale. To put it in easier to understand terms, there is a "salt" (not like the kind you eat) in them that allows the nicotine to be absorbed by the very sensitive skin in you tongue, cheeks, throat etc. So the nicotine content is higher, and is in less of a cigarette than a regular or 100. (king size whatever) The tan filter has absolutely nothing to do with the taste! you can peel it off for god's sake! Its just a different look. The gold 72's have a white filter. The reds, blues, and greens never have!!! (regulars, milds, and menthol lights, respectively, gold are just lights) It bugs me that people are so irrational about the damn paper there cigarette is wrap... Read more

I have no problem with the tan filters, because I know that it's just the special paper to put of the cigarette when not dragged on after a while. And I take long frequent drags. They taste pretty good, but they aren't the length I prefer. In fact I like 100's. So I won't rate these low for being short. These are great if you have a short break during work.

I think it's the best cigarette i have ever had. Don't listen to all these people saying the brown filters suck. They taste great and it feels great smoking it.

What do you all think about these new FSC Cigarettes?? They use a so called Fire Safe Paper....The hot ashes fall off more.....they make me sick and taste like crap!! What is your opinion? How can state governments pass these laws without letting us have a say? Has this Paper been tested on humans?? What are the side effects... The FIRE SAFE CIGARETTE's are fire-safe because of a coating applied to the paper not the filter... if you take your cogarettes and hold them to a light at an angle you will see the 1/4 inch wide film on the paper placed dead center... this coating does not burn as easily as the rest of the paper & thus your cigarette starves for air & dies out.

I too think the tan filter s*ck. I have gone from store to store in a 20 mile radius to find these damn white filers. I have been smokin the 72's since they came out. Even Reg Marb Lights are nasty, but not nearly as nasty as the tan light filters. My boyfriend and I both ended up with a Respiratory infection/Bronchitis from the tan ones. I am not sure what the heck Marlboro is doing but when I can't find white filters anymore i will be quitting.

I too found the same problem with 72 Lights....Here's the deal!! You have to look at the box to tell which ones are white filter or tan filter. The TAN filter smokes(which I HATE!)have the "LIGHTS" logo on the "TOP" of the box...and "NOT" on the front. The WHITE filter smokes(which I like)have the "LIGHTS" logo on the FRONT of the box and not on the top. I tried telling my local smoke shop what the difference was...and he told me the white filter smokes were counterfeit!! I had to laugh...they're not!! Anyways...that's the way to tell what you're getting. So if you go to buy 72 Lights...look for the "LIGHTS" logo on the "FRONT" of the box. Good luck smokin'........

not all states are required to do this yet. you might be able to locate some online or in stores just look for the letters FSC on top of the upc code and stay away. FSC stands for FIRE SAFE CIGARETTE, meening if your not puffing it will burn out

I Contacted Phillip Morris direct and they tell me why they changed the filter was to keep them all the same.I said to him that does not make much sense, they taste different and why call them a light.I did not receive a decent response....so who the hell knows.I still like them though. But the white filter was better.

I really don't like these. I never got the chance to smoke the ones with the white filters, but i have smoked the ones with the tan filters. I'll assume the colors don't mean anything because i tried the red, blue, and green packs and they all tasted the same. They just taste horrible.

Im hella pissed. im going to quit smoking because of these mother effers. The tan filter totally hurts your chest. its like really hard to breath. I too have issue with the "white vs tan" filters. I believe that tan filters have an additive to the paper (or tabacco) that extinguishes the flame when not being smoked, I believe that additive is the unpleasant taste. The white filtered do not extinguish themselves. Light one of each up and you will see the tan filter will go out before the white filter. And the tan filter will sometimes concave on the lit end while burning. I have chased the white filter kind from store to store. They should put some kind of mention on the box.

I have been smoking 72's since they started and I can not stand the new brown filters on them I think they taste different and I thought it was all in my head till I started reading below but I would like to know why they changed them and if they are gong to change them back. I really am against the new filters.

I too have been smoking the 72s since they appeared on shelves. I just loved them. That is, until they changed the filter. I really believe we could be getting "more" out of our Lights. The taste is going to take some getting use to and I had better no find out that they are regulars!

I have been smoking 72's pretty much since they first came out. I think they are great! Only a little less tobacco for a lesser price. When I say a little less I mean I held it up next to a regular marlboro and ther is only like a 1/2 a centimeters difference. So not only am I smoking less in a day, I am paying less too.

I noticed a difference between the tan filters and white filters too. I think the tan filters are a better smoke. I don't have a clue as to why they are different, and which is supposed to be the standard.

Does anyone know why some of the Marlboro Lights 72's have the white filter as the regular Marlboro Lights do and some have the tan filter? I bought a buy one get one free set 3 times and the first was the white filter, the next 2 times it was the tan/regular color filter? I find they are stronger w/the tan? Just curious.....

They are awesome! I love the shorter cigarette. When you need a smoke and you are on break or you don't have alot of time to smoke, the 72's are perfect.

I have smoked the menthol ones before and really enjoyed them actually. The short size was nice since menthols tend to give me a headache since I'm not used to them. Not being a huge fan of Marlboro's I still would have to say that these are a good smoke, although still not my brand of choice.

These have been my smoke of choice for a few months now. I love that they are so short, because the pack fits in my purse better, and because they burn fast. Sometimes it's good to have a smoke that burns really fast, because there are certain cituations where I need to be fast. Plus, you still get your fix. The menthol ones are really good too.

I have tried the menthols, milds, and reds and they are great! The shorter size results from a shorter filter, not cigarette. The shorter filter imparts more flavor. Plus they are usually cheaper than regular size. Buy them today!
