Shoney's review for 8.24.11 the place was sorta busy today. We were going to use the back room they have there for more peace and quiet and plus the atmosphere is better, however there was a strong cleaner smell so we sat on the round table in the corner of the main dining area instead. Was still calm. Our waitress came by and she looked beat. She was the only waitress there at the moment! I can tell yah she really could have used a lot more sleep, however she was very friendly and seemed to be handling the operations quite well! She took our order promptly and sent it to the kitchen for them to make it. She then proceeded to lie down on a booth seat to take a break and I don't blame her at all! She was busting her butt taking care of all the tables (approx 15 other guests were there at the moment) all this hecticness going on for her and a toddler started screaming loudly, however it didn't seem to phase her and she was still in a good mood. It didn't bother me much either. I think ... Read more

Best breakfast bar ever! However, they've virtually closed down in my part of the country! What gives?

I have had the memorable experience of Shoney's twice during my entertaining existence on Earth. What's the term I'm looking for. . .? "Intestinal Jihad."

My wife and I stopped in Columbus Ga. and I had the steak and seafood bar. The sea food what there was of it was good. The Steak? What I got I had to beg for. Won't go back again. You need to get your stuff together. If you are going to advertise it you better do it. The Big Boy is crap!

I went to Shoney's in San Antonio, TX. It was a great experience. The employees are all friendly, and the buffet is good. The breakfast Buffett is the best I have seen. It is always stocked and everything is fresh. There is plenty of room for seating and they do a great job. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal.

We went for dinner at the local Shoney's yesterday..Big Mistake.. I ordered the ravioli.. I should have stayed at home and fixed a TV dinner.. It would have tasted better, and I would have saved a whole lot of money. The tea (I don't think it could really be called that) was watered down and definitely not sweet. The menu itself is not appetizing. I wanted to order the shrimp, but it looked like it came in a basket. If I wanted shrimp in a basket, I would go to the local fast food seafood restaurant. I went to the bathroom..another big mistake..It felt dirty, and it also looked dirty with the "Out of Order" sign hung on one of the doors of the stalls. The waitress was friendly, but not overly so.. When you go to checkout, the whole area is covered with merchandise. It feels like back when I was a kid at my house, and my mom had to hang the clothes in the house to dry on a rainy day.. Not a very comfortable feeling. This is not the Shoney's I remember from my... There used to be several Shoney's in this part of NC. Now the closest is in either Salisbury or Charlotte. I miss that breakfast bar - with the fresh fruit and those delicious french toast sticks. Cracker Barrel's good but they don't have the buffet.

When I used to visit my mother down south, I'd pull off the interstate for a quick bites at one of these open air sewers.  "How bad could it be?"  I stupidly asked myself.  Well, if you like high calorie, high fat, poorly cooked dogcrap, it's not bad at all.  However, what was really repulsive was the clientelle.  The places were invariably crowded with 625 pound good ol' boys and their 410 pound wives/girlfriends.  It was like feeding time at the zoo.

The wife and I stayed at a motel in Columbia, SC for a week a few years ago and it included a free breakfast at Shoney's every day. We would go load up at the buffet and not be hungry until late in the afternoon. The food was excellent for a buffet. Our waitress who was a bit impaired in the head was prompt nonetheless.  She did the best she could.

I VISITED A SHONEYS IN EMPORIA AND I WAS THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE ONION RINGS AND SLIM JIM SANDWICH,THEY WERE NOTHING OF WHAT I REMEMBER EATING YEARS AGO WHEN I USED TO WORK FOR THE COMPANY. PLEASE BRING BACK THE TASTE OF THE ONION RINGS AND SLIM JIM YOUR COMPANY IS FAMOUS FOR I USED TO LOVE EATING AT SHONEYS, AFTER TODAY'S EXPERIENCE I WON'T RECOMMEND SHONEYS TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS. I WAS AFRAID TO TRY THE FAMOUS STRAWBERRY PIE FEARING I WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED AGAIN

Went there today. They charged me $1.79 for a cup of coffee! And it was bad coffee to boot! Food was so so, nothing to write home about. I wont be going to Shoneys again. That is about 18 times what it cost to make a cup of coffee! What is wrong with doubling or trippling your money? Yeah, I know 18 time is much better! How much can you make with NO customers? Price yourself out will you, Shoneys!

The breakfast buffet is good. But don't bother going there at any other time. Their prices are a bit too high, and the food quality just doesn't rate the high prices. The service varies by location, but is usually sub-par. There must be a game room in the back where the waitresses hang out, because you seldom see them on the floor. Evidently, customer satisfaction is not a priority at Shoney's.

The worst of the old Big Boy franchises that tried to reinvent itself into something else, even going so far as to open crappy hotels to go along with their crappy restaurants. Now in bankruptcy and falling like flies, this one is the worst of all of them. Be gone, Shoney's!

I went to one back in 2002 in Montgomery, Alabama and it had bad service. The watriess was pretty mean. They were out of soda and I could only drink water. I only got a little bit of food 'cause the rest was covered in Mustard(which I really hate) and my Aunt talked to the waitress and we all left with a frown on our face. And whatever you do. Never come here( unless you know this Shoney's has good service). The food was okay also.

Not the best, but not the worst. Their food isn't gormet, but I've always enjoyed it for what it is. Their breakfast bar is usually good.

On a recent trip to FL, I stopped at a couple Shoney's. What crapholes!! In MI or OH, the board of health would have them blown up. The funniest thing was to listen to the occasional local raving about how excited they were to be going to a Shoney's... their favorite place. HUH?!?

Good Buffets, especially at breakfast time. Also, they had a great seafood selection at the one in Hilton Head, South Carolina, that I hate at.

Great place to stop when you haven't eaten much in a while. Their breakfast buffet is First Class, but their dinners are simply mediocre. Overall, good breakfast, but need to improve the quality of lunch and dinner.

Ah, you know, it's funny how you'll often take something for granted, and then you realize when it's gone just how you miss it... that's the case here with Shoney's. Not that it was a GREAT restaurant, but it was good, and cheap... and cheap. The one where I live closed down a couple of months ago (Why, I wonder, since it was always crowded...), and I don't expect to be travelling a quarter tank of gas just to go there, but it was a good place to eat, for what it was--a cheap restaurant. Perhaps most love the place for it's breakfast bar, which contained both good food, and some pretty bad food too... of course, since some of the food was very good, that's all that really counts... not like anyone ever forced me to eat one of those dry biscuits.... The place had good dinners too, including a good, though expensive compared to other things on the menu, steak. Not the world's greatest steak, but good for the price I should say. Also, they always come out with good desserts, some ol... Read more
