Can, I? Yes. Am I stupid enough to? NO. I ignore my calls and wait until I stop to get a coffee or gas or whatever to call back.I can't understand why anyone thinks its okay. How many people have been killed because of it? If you talk or text while driving you're a goddamned tool. A douche. You're worse than a drunk driver, at least they have the excuse that alcohol impaired their judgment. Stop doing it, you're going to kill some little kid crossing the street, or yourself.

At least I thought I was excellent at it. The policeman that handed me a ticket for being on a cellphone and driving wasn't as impressed.

over excited fools they are, abusing trade with distractions.only back seat drivers are allowed to use the phone, laptop or weapon(including food)in a moving vehicle over any surface

If you do this, please let me know what roads you'll be on so I can take a different route. Sorry folks, but this is idiotic. (Pardon me if I just insulted you, but read on.)There's a huge problem just by itself with talking on a cell phone while driving, let alone also doing something else at the same time. The cell phone problem is not the holding of a phone -- the real danger is the conversation itself, which causes what experts call "inattention blindness." The conversation diverts your attention from what's going around you in traffic, causing accidents. You're 4 times more likely to cause an accident when talking on your phone! Research indicates it's as dangerous as drunk-driving! Fatal crashes involving cell phone-using drivers are disproportionately high for "inattention" and typically involve drivers striking something in front of them or leaving their lane of traffic. Phone-conversing drivers have impaired reactions to vehicles braking in front of them, to crossing pedestrians, and to bicyclists. They are more likely to miss traffic signals and react more slowly to the signals they do detect. Attention errors also are the most common factor in left-turn accidents. Some states, such as Utah and New Hampshire, treat cell phone use as this larger "distracted driving" issue. States that totally ban hand-held cell phone talking, allowing only hands-free talking via a headset, include California, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Washington state, plus the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. A number of other states allow individual jurisdictions within the state to ban it. 26 states and D.C. have special cell phone restrictions for novice drivers. Legislation to restrict mobile phone use has so far been proposed in 40 states. Even worse -- texting. Apparently state legislatures didn't think anyone was stupid enough to be texting while driving. Now that they've realized some people indeed are that stupid, laws prohibiting this insanity are being passed. Eight states now ban it, with more coming. For a list of all states and how they treat these issues, as well as the more than thirty foreign countries that restrict it, see http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/laws/cellphone_l aws.html.My hope is that at some point talking on a cell phone while driving will be outlawed -- a total ban, not just a hand-held restriction, just as right now no one is allowed to drive drunk (actually, not drunk, but under the influence). I know there's an argument for personal liberty here, which I support, but only when it doesn't involve danger to others, including you and me. It has already been proven to be unsafe, but the political will for a total ban is lacking right now. This is one of those nice conveniences that we need to sacrifice in order to protect everyone, including your loved ones and yourself. If you want to talk while in a car, pull off the road.

I've driven with my knee while doing 95 MPH before.... (on the autobahn of course) (unless thats illegal then im just kidding)

I can do it, but it's not very safe.

I can do either one, but when using the cell phone, my driving ability goes from one of the best out there down to much below average. Eating isn't much of a problem.
irishgit 05/12/2007
Yep, I don't make a habit out of it, but I do it.

"Can I"? Yeah. But I choose not to if possible. UPDATE: To emphasize this point, yeah, most people "can" drive while eating/talking on the phone, but to quote Chris Rock: "You can drive a car with your feet if you want to; it don't mean it's a good [email protected]#$ing idea!"

Good with the cell phone, not so good with the eating. Even with the phone if I get into areas I feel I need to pay closer attention like busy traffic or bad weather, then I hang up.

I have been known to drive one handed sometimes. Once in a great while eating{although i do not think you really should in case of choking} I do not own a cell phone, if i did I would not use one while driving. only maybe if it were an absolute emergency and i could not safely pull over. It really annoys me to see so many people using a cell phone while driving. It is too distracting and dangerous.
Inmyopinion 10/22/2005
I can't... and also, along with the ban on smoking, I think the no cell phone law is one of the few good things that the state's government has come up with. It is pretty dangerous.

Not legally, here in the Peoples' Republik of New York.
kattwoman 10/22/2005
i can but i prefer not to just because of the safety factors. i have a friend that will talk on her phone and she cannot do both and its scary and annoying while she does it.
