Five Start Moving MC # 390645, US DOT # 898581 Skokie, IL. I had a horrible experience with what should be Zero Star Moving and Storage. I moved across the country in 2009. My pickup in Michigan was great...that's the end of the good news. They sub-contracted my delivery without telling me. They were over 2 weeks later than they "gauranteed" they would be originally, and Five Star jerked me around the whole time with excuses why my stuff wasn't there (which made starting a new job on the other side of the country quite challenging). When the single guy finally came on July 4 with my stuff he had a laundry list of extra costs that Five Star was adament I wouldn't have when I signed with them: shuttle service (which was absolutely not necessary, his truck was sitting at my door just fine) distance carry (joke), and extra stair charge (joke). He wanted over $500 more just for a shuttle service he didn't need cause he claimed a 18-wheeler "might" not have made it to my doorstep. ... Read more

This was the worst moving experience I've ever had. My sister was scheduled to be moved on a Wednsday morning between 8 & 9. The evening before the move she was called and informed that they were loading a 1 bedroom apartment on the truck before her and they wouldn't arrive till betwen 9 & 11. At 10:40 she was called and informed that the first people had more stuff than they said and there was no room on the truck. The dispatcher felt that it was no big deal that they wanted to wait till the next day to move her!! When I spoke with him on the phone he made it seem like he had no contol over the situation and that I was being unreasonable by demanding that they find a way to move her that day. In the end he showed just how unproffessional Five Star Moving is and he took no responsibility for the problems. We ended up renting a truck and moving her ourselves.

I will never use this moving company again. I was given an estimate that was way under what I actually paid by almost $400. The sales rep was very polite and he set me at ease. He even told me, "g-d bless you" before he hung up the phone. When the movers arrive, 2 hours late, I was told that my job was underestimated. "Lowballed" is the word they used. I was in a bind because my lease expired that day. I had recieved many estimates from many chicago moving companies. Everyone told me that my job will cost somewhere between $700 and $800 dollars. Five Stars estimate was for $400 so I went with them. Even though it was a business day I couldn't get through to anyone in the office. After about a week of calling I finally was "allowed" to talk to the owner. He told me I got a good deal and that Five Star did a great job even though there was damage to the furniture. He also said that it didn't matter what company I used because it was going to take 5 to 6 hours anyway. Maybe so, but these ... Read more

This was my first experience with using a moving company and it makes me not want to use another one. They told me they would give me 24 hrs before picking up my belongings. I got 5 hours notice. They would not disassemble my large items even though I was told that they would ahead of time. This of course added onto my cubic footage. I was quoted $1000 and ended up being charged over $1400. They also told me that I would be given 24 hrs notice for the delivery. They called me 5 hrs before the scheduled delivery and told me that they had truck trouble and were only willing to deliver my stuff at 11pm or 5am the next morning. They weren't willing to deliver it when I got out of work. So I basically had no choice but to choose between late at night and the crack of dawn for the delivery. I spoke to the owner who was absolutely unprofessional. He refused to make any accommodations and clearly the customer wasn't going to be right. He was rude and condescending, and I got NOWH... My worst move ever: Stay away from this fraud: Five Star Moving & Storage Inc. 3403 Madison St Skokie IL 60076-2928 US DOT # 898581. MC#127251 Stay away from these con people: They showed up late. delivered late. They subcontracted the delivery to another company. They packed 1/3 of my furniture. Charged good money for it and I ended up with broken CD player, broken glasses and dishes. chipped desk and bed. Only books and clothing were not damaged!! The claim processing is a hoax. Don't fall for great rates. You'll probably pay a lot more for damages.

If you care about getting good value for your money or getting the services that you paid for, I would not use Five Star Moving and Storage. I was told that my shipment would be handled door to door by Five Star - no one else...this was not the case. The company that dropped off my shipment was rude and said that if I didn't pay a $300 shuttle fee they would put my shipment in storage, which would have cost more than $1000 dollars. Even after getting confirmation from the management at my apartment complex that there was no need for a shuttle service, Five Star refused to refund the $300. They also never called when they said would and never returned phone calls. Five Star Moving and Storage is horrible.

Lousy. Rude owner. Showed up late. Pushed me for a tip afterward though nothing special was done, no setup of anything required. Lied about incidental costs and "what a deal" I was getting. Messed up payment. Owner had bad attitude. Don't use 5 Star. You are NOT getting a "deal" as they will screw you on "packing" materials and fudge the amounts used. Obviously an employee wrote the positive reviews - seems to sound just like ones I saw on another web site touting how "great" they are.

Queen for a day! Since I've moved 4 times in the last 6 years(renting apartments and moving after college), I finally decided I wasn't going to lift a finger this time around! I spoke to no less than 10 different companies and some brokers who tried their hardest to gain my business, and after looking into the Better Business Bureau, the US DOT, and the Illinois Commerce Commission, Five Star was an easy decision. This was for a local move, and although they were a bit more than the competition, I figured it's like everything else: You pay more for quality. The customer service was impeccable, Danil knew what she was talking about, sounded so educated-not just in her grammar, but in her knowledge of the industry, and I trusted her immediately. What took me soooo off guard and really impressed me was when she said most of the mokvers have been working there between 4-7 years! NO ONE ELSE EVEN MENTIONS HOW GREAT THEIR MOVERS WORK OR WHAT TO EXPECT! She walked me through from arrival to t... Read more

Five Star Moving and Storage-What a scam! First they have the "snake oil salesman"-err customer service rep discuss the move and generate a quote with out even mentioning the incidentals such as charging for the moving blankets and flights of stairs. The customer service supervisor lied and said he was the owner when I called asking why the truck was nearly five hours late.My job was a two location pick up and the driver of the truck had the audacity to ask directions on how to get to my house! When I asked the supervisor why I had to give the driver directions to my house he told me "oh you can't just go on google and get them?" He was extremley rude and barely spoke english, even though I was one day away from my move I decided to cancel their service I could not take a chance on their unprofessional attitude. When I cancelled the service and requested a refund of my deposit the supervisor accused me of "playing games". FIVE STAR MOVING IS BAD NEWS STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

First, they showed up late! Then, they took there sweet time loading up their truck and taking cigarette breaks. They even stopped several times to make up some drama over a garden snake that had wandered into my garage. After finally getting to the new place, they charged me for an extra hour that hadn't even happened. Meanwhile they unloaded and threw my things into my home as fast as they could- not concerned that they broke several of my items. I even caught one of the guys stealing from me!!!! After they left I realized that my brand new washer had a part broken off the back that ended up costing my $200! The adjuster came to look for five minutes and now when I call their number has been disconnected!! STAY AWAY!!!!!

I had booked with this company in June. Had my confirmation date of the move and corresponded with them weekly. I had my confirmation number and was paying credit card. The were supposed to call the day before the move. No call. I called them and they had no record of my move. No apologies nothing. Thankfully my credit card wasnt charged. However, I had to scramble to find a reputable company to move my furniture. My advice is to stay away from this company. I learned and expensive mistake. Stay with a company that has a local office.
