Philly Cheesesteak

For whatever reason, Philly Cheesesteak actually tastes better in Philly. No kidding-- whether from Pat's or Geno's or a small corner sub shop, Philadelphia has the best. Why I can't manage to find anything comparable in MA I have no idea.

There was this little hole-in-the-wall joint next to a gas station that I used to visit...they had the BEST Philly Cheesesteaks! I wish I could have one now, but that place went out of business...and is about 450 miles away from where I currently live.

I didn't come from that end of PA but still love them...very hard to eat though...don't wear your best clothes!

In my mind, they're nothing special, although I ate them pretty regularly at the cafeteria when I was going to college. From this vantage point in time, I'm not quite sure why. Nearly every day for lunch, I'd order the same thing-- a cheesesteak sandwich, a Coke, and a piece of German chocolate cake. Maybe at the time I felt the cheesesteak soaked up alcohol better than tuna-fish or peanut-butter. When I graduated, I never touched another cheesesteak again ever. It wasn't because I detested them, or because I had grown tired of them-- I just never thought about them at all once I left the college environment where they had been so easily accessible (and relatively cheap). Sometimes I think I should actually drive over to Philadelphia and give them a truly fair shot; treat myself to the genuine article rather than the faux NJ knock-off that I used to consume. oh gosh... heavenly if it's made correctly. MINIMAL onions, no peppers, then just cheese and beef.

It is full of cholesterol and after eating one I have to go to some generic lipitor for a better state. But, it is more than tasty!

I have to give this a 4 even though I do LOVE a GOOD philly cheesesteak. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to make it good. I like it with cheese between each slice of beef, onions, peppers, mushrooms, no ketchup!!

If you want to feel like a God for a few precious minutes, head to Gino's Cheesesteak stand in Philadelphia. I promise you, that life itself will fail in comparison to those sandwiches.

Just had a hoagie from benjis and it was great. I am on a special diet from doc. and he thinks they are great. I get my veggies serving of bread and of course choc. milk. I dont miss the mayo so I guess iam going to be stuck eating the best cheese steak in canada!

Have to give it good rating on reputation alone but i think only Americans in general and Philadelphians in particular know how to make it correctly. Every one I've had in Canada was awful, I have to get my ass to Philly!!!!!!

I'm Pissed i just traveled from Napanee Ontario Canada to Philadelphia Pa.. Great city, but the reason i went there was for Pat's and Geno's. Geno's was good, thicker steak but good, Pat's on the other hand sucked, i gagged on the grizzel. I was sitting at a table right beside the line up and was about to spit it out but managed to wash it down with his lrg. coke. I was not impressed! We stayed in norht-east Philly and ate at a place near our hotel, England Pizza (on Cottom ave just off Roosevelt), great cheesesteak there. I asked at a few shops how Pat,s and Geno's got so famous. They all said LOCATION Being next to the baseball and football stadiums and the night life district on the other side they were bound to be busy. staying open 24 hours.It was to much like an assembly line, no heart in it. I worked in Philadelphia for about 6 months and was introduced to a Philly Chessesteak by my boss. It was the best sandwick I had ever had. Here is a tip, if you want a good Philly chessesteak, order Domino's Philly Chessesteak pizza. It is surprisingly close. TO MISSPACKRAT: I have had the hot pocket version and it is decent. Try Domino's, it's closer to the real thing.

Cheese steak in general is one of the favorites. I like extra cheese, onions, and peppers. One of the best.

I haven't tried an actual sandwich like this before, but I've had the Philly cheesesteak Hot Pocket (if that counts). If that is an example of what a Philly cheesesteak sandwich tastes like, it would rate pretty high in my book.

The Philly Cheesesteak IS my favorite sandwich ( I say this about eveything that I eat, but this time it's true, I think.). On my trip back east earlier this year I made a point of eating at both Pat's and Geno's, in Philly, (Both have been shown on Foodtv)and was not dissapointed, but if a had to choose, I would pick Pat's. The lines in front of both sandwich shops were a block long, and they are right across the street from each other, which makes for a cicus atmosphere. My son went to one, and I ordered at the other, and man, did we stuff ourselves. Here in California there is a chain that is called The Great Steak and Potato Company, that would give either one of these a run for their money. But I like them all.A five star rating for a Great sandwich.
