The line is solid, and the scene itself is high in the running for one of the most brutal scenes ever filmed.
Hackman is cynically savage, but there is no doubt that tremendous damage is being done, despite the lack of gore.

This is one of the more brutal scenes in any movie and it is well done with little splatter or gore. Hackman is the town lawman and he just heard that hired killers will be coming to town to kill two cowboys on a contract for hire. English Bob, is probably one of the poetntial killers for hire, and Hackman decides to send a message to all others who would try to take the contract. This is extremely effective moviemaking.

Did Hackman get the Oscar for this? He should've. I love this line. Actually, the English Bob parts might be my favorites of the movie. Harris was the man (in everything). And Hackman was a villain for the ages.

I never saw a man's spirit and character, so openly and patheticly destroyed, then in this portrayal by Richard Harris. Hackman was brutal. He seems to be exceptionally good at it.
