Well... It works when I do that.

To let the remote know that we mean business and that inaction is not an option.

Hoping that by pressing harder we will actually get somewhere, I know that I'm guilty of that.

habit I guess, I tend to shake it as if that will work. or worse bam it on the couch. still does not work.finally break down and buy the batteries.{when I remember}

Hm...I don't knwo why. I know I do it all the time. Mostly because our TV downstairs is crap, and I guess I think pressing harder will get it to work...I feel slightly stupid now...

Hey, just make sure you change the batteries quick. The remote has an internal memory of the codes you enter into it but it goes away after more than a few minutes without battery power. Break this rule and all of the sudden your universal remote drops the lot and you get to go looking for codes!

Partly out of anger. There seems to be a law that you can fix something by hitting it or getting angry at it.

Because if we hit the button hard then we send a small vibration through the batteries that gives them extra life.(thats what i tell myself anywayz)

I always try to take them out and put them back in or hit the remote on the back a couple of times. Seems to work for me.

What, you mean it doesn't work for you? If pressing harder doesn't work, try pressing several times, in quick succession. (That doesn't work either, unless it's to turn the set on, then turn it off again on the second click!).

We are trying to get the most out of the batteries before they fail. People just dont like going to the store for batteries at the last moment. Would you go out and get batteries during a Super Bowl?

I wholeheartedly agree with Jed when he said that it is because we are lazy. To that end I offer this suggestion. The next time that the remote stops working because of weak batteries, remove the battery cover and spin the batteries. Sometimes oxidation will form at the point of contact which would not make much difference with fresh batteries but can cut down that last bit of lower voltage trying to get through. Spinning the batteries will remove the oxidation and if you are lucky you will be able to wait until you need a bathroom break to go get your new batteries. You're welcome.

Because we're too lazy to take a trip to the junk drawer in the kitchen or the basement or the garage to look for new batteries which might or might not even be there. It's worth it to give those dying batteries one last shot at providing just enough juice to change one more channel.
