I agree - Tboneya would get the job done.

I'm too quick on the trigger. The squid also mentioned here gets my vote.

Tboneya. He has a clear thinking ability about him that is necessary in such a sensitive position yet surely wouldn't give a second thought to proposing plans in America's defense & interest if need be.

I'd second tboneya, although through blackmail of some sorts, I would probably find myself working at the defense agency.

In as much as numbah has been in the marines and is well-qualified as a fighter, to let him decide policy and give orders would be beyond him. he is trained as a follower, not a leader. The Marines are good at following orders, not giving them. For Secretary of Defense, I would like to nominate PBeavr. He has the courage to stand up for what he believes in and is willing to make the tough decisions needed for the office.

I'd go with tboneya, has the sense of the job, and the sense of history and levelheadedness to prevent stupidity.
