Well, we are done shopping at our local Menards in Big Rapids, Michigan. We had enjoyed shopping at Menards for years, including our Big Rapids store. Although recently we weren't able to buy an HDTV a few weeks ago due to poor service. After further communication with the store manager, he did contact us to say he talked to his staff to ensure our bad experience wouldn't happen again. We accepted the fact that he couldn't find us another HDTV to buy, and planned on finding one elsewhere. But then we had another bad experience on 07/16/2011 when we went to our local Menards to do some shopping and buy a "Oversized Leather Rocker Recliner" on sale for their "Crazy Days" promotion. Initially, we got help from a young male staff who was very friendly and helpful as we needed it to be delivered to our apartment. He took us to a computer and put in all the information to sell and deliver us the recliner, and said it would be $40.00 for it to be delivered the following day. We said that w... Read more

On February 03, 2011, my husband and I went to Menards in Spencer, Iowa to price materials for putting new siding on our house. The Customer Service "boy" in that department was occupied with a female Customer Service person. He was standing behind her rubbing his crotch against her and she was just giggling about it. All three of the Customer Service people ignored us as if we were a bother to them. Even though he was only about 4 feet away from us, I had to directly face to face confront him in order to get him to even acknowledge us being there. He very grudgingly responded to us and then with a very sarcastic tone of voice. He had such of a snotty school-girl like attitude that we just turned around and walked away. I went to another customer service counter and asked to talk to the Manager. This guy said he was the Manager. I felt like coughing up a hair ball because he wasn't any older or any more knowledgeable than the first guy was. I told him about the bad service I had ... Read more

A new Menards has just opened in Wichita, Kansas and has already earned the worst reputation in the city for customer service (or lack there of). They are just like the other bad reviews where people have trouble getting anybody to help them. Before the store opened they were busy casting a wide net to scoop up all the resumes they could, then pick out only the high school and college kids (youngsters) to hire for stocking and opening the store. A few weeks into their operation, most of those kids saw what their future was with Menards and left. Out went the banner that they were NOW HIRING again, so they could cast they wide net again. I was one of those who tuned in applications before and after the store opened, only to find out that Menards is actively practicing AGE DISCRIMINATION in the hiring practices. (Yes - I'm in my late 50's and have years of remodeling, tooling, and lumber experience to offer.) I've talked with lots of other people who applied there. They also told me of ... Read more

2/1/11 Reguarding: Menards in Evansville, IN I purchased Laminate Flooring Total purchase $459.50 on 826/10. I was at the time going thru Chemo treatments and every trip to the store was a huge effort and could only walk with my husbands help. Our installer , a license contractor had problems with the flooring fitting together from the very start. When he would try to lock the planks together the backing would break off the planks. The short ends of the planks would leave about 1/8 inch space and not fit up tight. After try several differant cartons and having the same problem he called the toll free trouble shooting number provide by Menards. After calling three differant numbers none of which worked he took a carton of the flooring to the store. The store manager, and the flooring department manager agreed there was a problem with the flooring. The manager said he could not help us with any refund on the damaged flooring and we would have to fill out a "Installed Guest Compl... Read more

Well to start off I just want to say I will NEVER shop at another Menard's. The service at the Avon, Indiana location is absolutely horrific. On more than one occasion I had rather large orders that would have been nice to have a carry out help with, but they all were so caught up on who was being "forced" to help me, I literally loaded my own truck myself. Also, just about every time I have asked a manager for assistance they are more concerned about texting back their friend. The two people I noticed doing this the most are two men named Matt and Derick. These two men are the two people in particular that have really been getting under my skin ever since I have moved out to Avon. They are extremely rude to customers, the use profanity in front of customers and degrade employees in front of the customers, and I even over heard the Derick guy talking about hung over he still felt from the night before!! My husband and I just recently moved to Avon from Ohio and have had rather good ex... Read more

Menards has the worst return policy I have ever had to deal with in my life! I purchased an item for a Christmas present. This item was defective. So with the reciept I went to return it on the 29th of December. I was told I could not get a full refund because it is a holiday item and the refund amount would be reduced. I purchased a new item in good faith and now I can not exchange it because they are out of the item nor can I get a full refund! Wow, I am wondering how many thousands of dollars Menards makes off unsuspecting Christmas shoppers every year. The CEO needs to take a serious look at their return policies. Especially when a customer returns a defective item within in the 14 days AND has the receipt. I am contacting my Better Business agency and boycotting Menards. And from the sounds of these reviews I suspect Menards will not last long!

OMG I just finished reading all the complaints from customers and yet still Menards SUCKS!!!!! Does the president or ceo of the company not read theses complaints??????? Evidentely not or something would be done about the poor service one gets, the totally messed up merchandising and the I don't give a s--- attitude of its employees. Our Onalaska, Wisconsin store is a joke, the young kids run away when you need help or are so busy talking amongst themselves they won't even acknowledge you are even there, let alone help you. I was a floor manager of a hardware store for 10 years and I had my employees go to seminars to learn everything they could about every department. I myself, even being a woman, could plumb, mix paint, make keys etc. etc. etc. and was not even paid as much as the men were but I loved my job and all the challenges that came with it. Soooooooo what I am saying, is with all the money Menards makes why can't you hire some decent help and not all the young snots who ... Read more

Our house in Gurnee had to get a new roof in December because of a previous wind storm. We ordered our supplies from Menards and were told the palate of supplies would be the first shipment of the morning on the day we had requested. On the day we were to recieve the supplies we had five carpenters just waiting in front of our house FOR FOUR HOURS!!!! My husband called Menards and found out the delivery truck was 50 miles away making another delivery. Menards cost us alot of money and our roof wasn't able to be completed due to a snow storm...talk about horrible customer service...they did nothing for us and they flat out just didn't care! My family will NEVER EVER step foot into another Menards! I'm suprised they are still in business...from now on we will go to Lowe's because they are always helpful and care about their customers.

A three so I can comment on the spawn of Menard, Paul, who drives "just well enough to get in the way most of the time" in his Menard's sponsored race car. (credit to Tony Stewart for the quote)

Menards service is terrible!!! I am a 58 year old female with a bad back. I went to Menards in Ottumwa today to get some treated lumber for my husband. When I checked in with the "guard" to get the lumber, I told him I would need help loading it. I found the lumber I needed, waited and waited and waited. Finally I decided to load the 20 8' treated 2x4's myself. Then I waited and waited and watched the forklifts running around doing nothing. I then decided to load the 7 8' treated 4x6's. I had 5 loaded when a forklift went by and I yelled HEY. He came over and asked if I needed help --- DUHHHHHHH. I said yes, I certainly did and I also needed help loading 14 bags of concrete mix. Now that I had loaded nearly everything, another young man showed up and helped load the last two 4x6's. By the time I backed into the door to get the cement mix, 2 more young men showed up. The four of them had a good time loading the concrete - even managed to break one in the back of my husband... Read more

I bought split picket fencing materials from Menard's this summer. The quality is not as good as Lowe's but much lower in price. Made decision to go with lower price and less quality. I was told that gates are special order.....comes with hardware. Okay that's just a 2 or 3 week wait..can wait, so still good. Delivery came, warped gates and no hardware. I was told it would be delivered in driveway...it was left on curb lawn and we had to move into driveway ourselves. (it was a HUGE delivery) When I called all of this was everyone else's fault...pretty much "so sad, too bad". Had leftover sections so decided to do my own yard this time. Wanted it to match the leftover sections so went back to Menard's. (yeah, I know DUH!) It was suppose to be delivered yesterday took the day off from work....waited all day...dum-de-dum..ho hum..called and got "sorry it will come tomorrow- guarenteed before noon." Took another day off but told boss I would be in late in the day. Called M... Read more

How does John Menard save big money? By selling seconds that aren't labeled as seconds. A couple years back, we wanted to re-do an entryway in tile. Menards had the tile we wanted, but none of it was quite good enough to use. Blemishes, pinholes, scratches, cracks in all of it. Couldn't figure this out. However, the same tile was sold by another retailer, so we bought a couple of pieces and took it to them to see if they could get a better grade. When we showed the tile to the clerk, he laughed and said, "These are seconds, and they came from Menards, didn't they? Look here on the back." On the back of each tile was a red dot. "The red dot indicates these are seconds. We've got the same tiles, but ours are firsts." He showed us a box of the same tile, and the box didn't even look the same. Their boxes had full-color printing; the boxes at Menards were one-color. The boxes at Menards were NOT labeled as seconds. If you didn't know about the red dot, you'd expect them to b... Read more

I work at the Eau Claire Distribution center, I am the guy that builds pallets and sends it to the store, I am also the person who does your special orders. The way the computer system is set up it makes impossible for us to get the wrong product so any error comes from the store itself. The building I work in 21/22 at the DC is poorly ventilated and filled with dust. It is a definite health hazard if you work there for years, no one seems to care how dirty everything is. The pay is above average for a college kid but I am frustrated with how things are run. I feel that me and a few co workers could take over command of the building and run it better. There are two Menards in Eau Claire WI. Home Depot has tried to get the rights to build here but John Menard threatens to pull the DC from Eau Claire county if another home improvement store comes within 30 miles of Eau claire. I feel that no one in upper management is concerned with working conditions, if they worked in the dusty ... Read more

Kitchen Kompact cabinets. Nice for the price but KK needs to learn how to package the cabinets for shipping. I bought 2 wall and 2 base cabinets from Menards and each cabinet had minor dammage due to inferior packaging. Protect the CORNERS! Note: This damage may have been caused at Menards by the guys handling/loading/unloading the cabinets. But, KK should be able to package their product to prevent damage during normal shipping and handling!

Menards is a terrible store..when you go to buy something the people working have no idea about anything and if you do happen to get somebody that does know something there is a good possibility they really dont know what they are talking about...heck they dont even know how to special order something for you....the little bit that they are cheaper than other stores is so not worth it and they wont stand behind anything! I will try my hardest to never buy anything from there again...Sioux Falls SD

What a joke. These guys hire up the cheapest labor they can find(usually young kids who could give a crap) What do they ant to be when they grow up? A home improvement store, or a general merchandiser? Until they figure it out, they will be mediocre at best either way.

MENARDS IS A JOKE , I SPENT OVER $20,000 IN THAT STORE THE LAST 3 YEARS AND RECENTLY PURCHASED CARPETING FROM THEM. THE INSTALLER THEY PROVIDED OR RECOMMENDED WAS A JOKE . HE DIDNT STRETCH PROPERLY AND COULD NOT DO SEAMS. USED GLUE TAPE THAT PEELED RIGHT OFF AND DIDNT EVEN HAVE GLUE ON SOME SPOTS. USED CEMENT NAILS TO TACK DOWN TACK STRIPS. A REAL IDIOT. IT COST ME $80.00 TO FIX THIS JOKERS POOR WORKMANSHIP. DO YOU THINK MENARDS WOULD REIMBURSE ME. HELL NO , NOT EVEN INSTORE CREDIT. INSTALLER SAID TO BAD. EVEN WROTE JOHN MENARDS HIMSELF. MY 20 + FAMILY MEMBERS WILL NEVER SHOP AT THIS PLACE AGAIN. TOLD HOME DEPOT THIS AND THEY SENT ME A 50.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE SO I WOULDNT SHOP AT FLEET FARM . I CANT WAIT UNTIL LOWES COMES TO TOWN AND RUNS MENARDS OUT OF WISCONSIN. I WILL MAKE IT MY LONG LIFE RESPONCIBILITY TO ADVISE EVEYONE I KNOW NOT TO SHOP AT MENARDS.

WHATEVER "pissedOFFmenards" duhhhh! you installed it so go through the manufacturer! thats usually how any store goes. If you do it you get your money back, if they do it they dont! thats 629.00 out of their pocket for a defective item. they dont open every box and check for defects because no one would buy it! And if you can list any other hardware store that offers free delivery i dare you to prove it. same goes for you "cards4now" take a little extra effort and do something yourself! "JOHNMcGILL" you're a dumbass! why instead of going all the way into menards save yourself some hassle and make your payments on time. Why the hell would you go all the way to the store??? Why didn't you just call? Thats your problem. Credit cards have credit lenders. The menards hardware store does not lend you your money! you have to go through your credit lender. If you weren't ignorant and actually looked into your choices you make before you jump right into being an asshole then you wouldn'... Read more

Menards has quotas for everything they do, even security. If you don't meet those quotas you are told your job is on the line and if you still can't your hours are cut to where you have to quit or get another job just for hours. They audit all there stores daily via video cameras, which are everywhere. They think everyone is stealing from them. It is not a friendly place to work!

The payroll is a huge problem throughout the menards chain. It is the middle of summer and they send people home 3 hours early because "PTS" isn't being made for either the store or department wise. Well if it weren't for the unfair forecasting that the General Office has complete control over, this wouldn't be such a problem. At my particular store we seem to get 6-8 pallets of freight every other day so you can't tell me that product isn't being sold. During the busiest times of the day, there just isn't enough staff on to be able to cover all the guests in the store. Does Menards still promote Profit sharing?? Because the way things are going, they will have thousands of part timers who will need to average 30 hours a week for the last month and what will happen with "PTS" then? HAs the idiots in Eau Claire figured that out yet? But oh yeah, when push comes to shove, its just easier for the company to sweep it's problems under the rug and try and forget about them, rather th... Read more

Menards a good place to shop? It prices are in line with everyone elses. Where they fall down is in their employment practices..Don't bothr to apply there if you have ever worked for a UNION company. John Menard-owner- has set a policy of never hiring anyone who has ever worked for a union company or has had any relationship with a union. If you submit a application mentioning any union employment, the application goes into the trash. The same for ever working for Lowes, or Home depot Or any chain lumberyard. Reguardless of your background, they will just pick your brain for information they can use against your current employer. Then, no job for you.

Menards subs out the credit card. Menards doesn't own it, HSBC does. HSBC is the company that many households have their mortgage. Making payments is something that they are looking into. I have received nothing but great service from Menards. I can't say that for the other two home improvement stores. When and If you find some one at those other two, most of the time they can't find the product or just point

I went to the Menards store in Defiance, Ohio to make a payment on my Menards card and was told that the store can-not accept a payment on the card, that I had to mail it in or make a payment directly from a bank account.I went on line and found that In order for my payment to be accepted on that day I would be charged a extra $15.00. It is my suggestion that this is a realy bad way to run a company and that from now on we should all shop at Lowe's. That is what I am going to do.
