Especially if its someone important, or you have met them more then once. Then its a lil embarassing if you cant remember their name.

There was an amusing scene in Ricky Gervais' Extras, where he couldn't remember his stylist's name, and was trying to cover for that fact when she asked him to sign a photo. "So... who should I make this out to?" "Oh... just to me." "Ahem... dear... um...hmm... what to write? What do you want me to say?"

Names can be tough. I've heard tricks where you should say the name in your head 3 times after you hear it. Or think about a person you know who this person reminds you of and it will help you remember. But too much of that and I won't be listening to what is being said. I think I'll start trying the saying name 3 times trick again.

I do have a tendency to forget people's names. The key to not letting someone know that you forgot their name is to just not try to come up with their name, and don't substitute something like Buddy, Amigo, Chief, etc., that's a dead give away. If you look them in the eye when you start the conversation, people rarely realize that you don't know who they are.  If you really should know who they are, you'll remember eventually.

I do the thing where I'm so concerned about engaging a person in conversation that I forget their introductions. Fortunately where this really matters there are usually business cards :P

Yes! And it sucks too! Infact, right now I don't remember the name of this gentleman I email back and forth with and I'm petrified to ask him his name again! It's just too embarassing for me.

Some people have it, most don't. We generally don't pay much attention when we hear the name.

I'm really good with people's names. Names, birthdays, faces, I never forget, but phone numbers or addresses are different story.

Never had a problem with this either. I remember faces and names as if I saw/heard them yesterday, even 10 years later.

I'm phenomenally bad at this, and am ashamed to be so. Names & faces are hard for me to remember, I have to make an extreme effort to recall them. I can tell who a person is by the vibe they give off for some reason, but heck if I remember their name. I think this is, in part, due to a childhood issue of avoiding looking people in the face (I don't have this problem now). Thankfully, I'm getting better at it.

I have drawn a total blank on someone's name before, I just hope I am not with someone else and I am expected to introduce them.I feel so embarassed and hope they do not notice.

I frequently do this...especially at work. I've also been guilty of calling my boyfriend by his roomate's name.

There is nothing worse than forgeting someone's name, especially if you're in a social situation and have to introduce them. It's even worse when they remember your name easily. Oh, the shame, lol.
