Near the top of the list, and deservedly so; much of the credit for the reason we're about to enter an economic meltdown that will make the Great Depression of the 30s look like a Sunday picnic is because of this stupid asshole. As others on this list have pointed out, he started America's slide into economic oblivion. The list of this idiot's "accomplishments" is long, but a few of the high points are his pushing tax cuts for corporations and the ultra-rich, his destruction of unions, his war on the environment, and his relentless borrowing to fund the huge party that the upper class had in the 80s. When Bonzo came into office, the National Debt was only 900 billion; after twelve years of Bonzo and Bush, it was over 4 and 1/2 TRILLION. His "economic miracle" had to do with Prudhoe Bay hitting maximum output just as he entered office, cutting our reliance on Mid-east oil dramatically. Of course, Prudhoe is now only pumping out a fourth of what they were 25 years ago, so we're screwed. ... Read more

bias. he's a united states president. didn't really affect any other countries. it's bias because i'm assuming the person who made this list is american because they have other US presidents....which would also be bias.

whether we agreed or disagreed with him he was still a great president of our times. it is sad to be stricken with alzheimers for anybody and the family that sees their love one die while alive and then at the end.

Reagan brought about an end to the Cold War? Lofty achievement for a man who at the time could not be relied upon to remember to take his pants down before doing a poo.

Is this a joke? The guy could bearly remember his name by the end of his second term while his wife used astrology to make policy. Oh yeah he was a huge influence! He influenced the Iran Contra scandal, the USA's huge budget deficit. He influenced Saddam Hussein dictatorship by supplying him with the ingredients to make chemical weapons. Had no influence on the AIDS epidemic or environmental issues though caused he ignored them. As for being responsible for the fall of the USSR well Afghanistan war that bankrupted the USSR started before he become president . Pope John Paul II and Gorbachev were far more of an influential when it came to the end of the Cold War.

Reagan was certainly an influential person, and for those Reagan fans out there, my three star rating isn't intended to be an insult. I just think that in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't make sense to for Reagan to be ranked in the range of such people as Johann Gutenberg, Albert Einstein, or Isaac Newton, all of which are ranked close to Reagan at the time that I am writing this review. Maybe a few more years will prove him to have been more or less influential than I currently think, but I'll give him a solid three for now.

Joke, right? Not only was he a lousy president (Iran-Contra, S&L; scandal, poor environmental record and opposition to the E.R.A.), but his impact was minimal and in the face of the history of the world it is unlikely that he will even be remembered. Few U.S presidents will.

Easily the best of the 20th century, and no one today is even close to his league. I do not like Hitler, but I can admit that he was a great orator. I do not like Al Sharpton, but I can admit that he is a gifted speaker. Even Obama is decent- so long as he is on script and/ or the telepromter is on. Again we see that there is no such objectivity on the other side.

Solid, but better one on one with the camera than on the stump. His state of the Union addresses were excellent, in oratorical terms, his live speeches were mediocre.

Hopelessly mediocre president, but since we're rating them as "world leaders" here I'll give him an extra star for being a charming entertainer of foreign dignitaries. At least he wasn't unintentionally funny like our current prez. Here's the best joke from Reagan's repertoire, as recorded by Mort Sahl: "So a Russian guy goes to the car dealer and asks to buy an automobile. He completes the purchase and asks when the car will be delivered. 'In ten years,' says the car dealer. Replies the customer: 'In the morning, or in the afternoon?' The dealer chuckles a little, but decides to humor his customer. 'In the morning.' The customer breathes a huge sigh of relief. 'Thank goodness. The plumber's coming in the afternoon.'"

I know some rateitall.com reviewers here will disagree with my assessment about Ronald Reagan (and frankly, I could care less what they think when it comes to this great man), but all I need to know is how my immigrant parents did during the 1980s, the so-called 'Decade of Greed' (which is an absolutely STUPID monicker). My parents, who came from the Philippines during the early 1970s and started off with virtually nothing, prospered during this wonderful era. Never had they been more successful and proud for what they worked so hard to accomplish for themselves. And Ronald Reagan inspired them (and so many others like them) to still believe in the American Dream. But in today's political climate, you will never here about it. In fact, there were many like my parents who succeeded during this era, and they give credit to Ronald Reagan and the economic policies of this era. (And I'm not ashamed to say many like us wept when this great man died in 2004.) As far as his role in fighting Co... Read more

An actor that was elected president. I wasn't impressed enough to vote for him either time he ran. Great speeches but he afterall was an ACTOR. Iran Contra, deficit speeding, tax cuts for the rich, out of sight defense spending and...wait a minute!... this sounds just like George W. except the Iran Contra thing has been replaced by Iraq. Conservative Republicans just don't get it do they?

I choose to remain anonymous, but I must state this. After my Democratic days, I became a Reagan Delegate after a couple tough primaries and I was at the 1976 Kansas City Convention and the 1980 Detroit Convention. I helped nominate this great man, and I am proud of what little bit I was able to do. I talked with him, although, not for very long, and you can't believe how warm and loveable that he was. America was lucky to have him, and we sure could use him today! Like me he was a former Democrat of the FDR stripe. I was too young to know FDR before he died as I was born in the early 1940's but my people were of that ilk. RR is the great America of the days of yore and we shall never see his likes again, looking at the mopes who want to be President. It is sad!

For the first part of his presidency, he was one of the best in history. As someone who opposed his presidency with a passion, I was frustrated at his ability to manipulate the issues. But, intending no disrespect whatsoever, I think he started to have episodes of altzeimer's late in the first term. I think he had a moderate bout of it in the first debate with Mondale, where he was clobbered. Give Mondale his due - he was an excellent debater and until the second 1984 debate where the panel asked Reagain about his age and Reagan came up with the one liner of the decade (re his opponent's youth and inexperiences - Mondale has since said his chances vanished that instant), Mondale had never lost a campaign debate. But some of those answers in the first debate showed a serious cognitive difficulty. Lucky for him and the GOP, nobody was paying attention.

Here are some observations about Reagan, one of my 3 favorite Presidents: (1) He didn't change his opinions to try to win. I remember so well during the '84 election when Mondale's people were running polls and trying to find out what certain groups of people were wanting to hear. You always knew where Reagan stood. (2) While Jimmy Carter was saying to us, "Trust me," Reagan was saying, "I trust you, the people." He had more faith in the grass roots than in a bloated government. (3) While other politicians would seek to divide people and demonize certain segments of society, blaming one group or another for causing inflation, Reagan would simply say that inflation hurts all of us and that all of us can work together to rebuild the economy. (4) He was incredibly upbeat and optimistic, much more than I was, or just about anyone else I knew. (5) He and his wife genuinely loved each other. That used to bug some people to death. Whether you liked Nancy or not, everyone knows th... Read more

In all of my years, he's THE man when it comes to great presidents. Not perfect, made mistakes, but always man enough to admit such. Stuck to his values, seeing America in a truly positive light. History will look well upon him. The US is better for having had Mr. Reagan as President.

After four years of Jimmy Carter raping our national defense and trying to co-exist with the Soviet Union, Reagan was a welcome presence. At the time, China had more of an open communism. Cuba? Yeah, they compared to the Soviet Union. Inflation was down, pride was up. A President with charisma that used it for diplomacy instead of bagging chicks. Imagine that.

My sources also tell me that Putin would very much like to bring the Family back together as well. All well, it was fun playing pretend for awhile I guess....He gets 2 stars (as opposed to 1) for raising a fine young man, his son, Ron Reagan Jr....If anybody's son was qualified for the presidency, THIS is the guy. Now if you will excuse me I'm gonna go suck down some ketchup packets...I'm a growing boy, need my veggies.

Skizero, did you cut and paste that from MoveOn.org's website? I think I've seen that article somewhere before. Yes, he wasn't a perfect individual as I know you are... but saying someone can't champion something after falling from grace is foolish. I mean, being a former drunk someone might realize the need to warn others on the dangers of alcohol use. Having family difficulties might clue someone in to the need for strong families. Beruit was a failure yes. But he took the advice of his cabinet against his own inclinations to stay and respond militarily according to reports. He was swayed by the argument that Communism was the greater threat at the time. But didn't you argue that terrorism was something the US made up anyhow- so where's the defeat? There's no real terrorist threat right? As I've previously provided proof that dismisses the whole class and ethnic warfare drivel you have attempted to repeat I will recuse myself from reiterating the simple facts that prove your cla... Ronald Reagan provided strong, decisive leadership in times of turmoil and chaois. He gave America what it lost during the dreadful Carter years- a reason to love America. Reagans ability to lead the United States so well is what kept it alive during the Cold War. GWB ideology is so intune with Reagans and that is why GWB is going to win another four years in the White House.
