I just can't give a lick of respect to a church that was founded so a king could do things that the church was telling him not to.

This is the state church of England of which the Queen is the head. It is Calvinistic in doctrine but retains some ritualistic practices from pre-Reformation times.

Church of England has suffered a great loss not only by it's differences that may seem little to the lay-men in reality it's eternal to be precise king Henry VIII was actually so abhored by Martin Luther's heresy in which the very word protestant was first associated(meaning opposed to the accepted belief)a book was written by the decree of the king in defence of the faith which earned him the title defender of the faith by the supreme pontiff(I stand corrected)only to repeat the error of defying church authorities in later years. In the case of Martin Luther it was a doctrinal dispute,in the case of Henry VIII it was a marital crisis in which his current wife could bare him no son heir to the throne of England which first triggered his decision of divorce after tireless efforts of trying to persuade church authorities to swing in his favour were to no avail he took matters into his own hands by renouncing the pope as head of the catholic church in Englang. So then he could re-write the ... The Church of England (CE) is about as close you can get to the Roman Catholic Church without being Catholic. My understanding is that, thanks to Henry VII who couldn't persuade the Pope to grant him a divorce, and who therefore decided to replace the Pope as head of the Catholic Church in England and allow himself to divorce (and lop off the heads of successive wives who didn't bear him male heirs), the CE still mirrors much Catholic theology and dogma, but does not recognize the Pope as head of the church. OK, it's oversimplified. I once had a guy I worked with, who is Anglican (Episcopalian), who claimed that he was an Anglican Catholic, and said that the Anglicans do believe in the authorit of the Pope. I'm not convinced he knew what he was talking about. Anyway, the two churches are so close in so many of their practices and ceremonies that I once met yet another guy who was Anglican who by mistake once went to a Catholic church and didn't realize (according to him) that he w... Known to the English people as the protestant option and to Henry VIII as divorce court.
