1944 D Day 4

Hmm... I'd say that the war was more or less decided in Europe at this point. Still, there are implications for post-war Europe in play that I can't ignore. The Iron Curtain could have reached alot farther and an emboldened Soviet Union with the whole continent under its thumb might have had an itchier trigger finger in the impending Cold War, not to mention that the economies and infrastructures of certain occupied areas would have been rebuilt by the Soviets instead of the US. One could easily argue that Europe would have become a communist backwater while the US invests their Marshall Plan money in Asia if D-Day fails. Oh yeah, almost forgot... nobody likes Ike either if he fails.

1944 D Day 5

If it wasn't for the sacrifice of allied troops on D Day, we might have ended up with the likes of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove holding absolute power for more than eight years.

1944 D Day 5

Today is June 6, and on this date in history, in 1944, the Allies landed in Normandy, France, to assault the Nazi German state from the West. You all have heard the story and seen countless films on it by now, so I can't add much.

My father who died this year, 2009, age 95, landed on Utah Beach. He had just turned thirty years old and was one of the "old men" in the army at that time.

1944 D Day 2

To say that this is one of the most important battles of all time is a complete overstatement. Its effect on post-WW2 Europe was great, but its direct effect on WW2 was minimal. Compared to some of the other battles on this list, it doesn't have any importance whatsoever. Man, Americans and Brits don't know anything about their own history. Anyone who gives this battle five stars either simply doesn't understand the true nature of WW2 and is blindly by their patriotism.

1944 D Day 5

To say this was important would be a huge understatement.
