I think it's a sad city, way too much high rise, the way you expect it in the USA, being European. To me it seemed like a never ending concrete jungle. At the same time everything is closed on sunday, it looked like a ghost town. Combined with the sadness of so many people living on the street or having absolutely nothing it looks not human to me. Of course there are nice bars, there is good food and beautiful women, but you find them in all big cities. For me it was a big disappointment. I like nice architecture and Sao Paulo looks to me as if they let fools build buildings. Defenitely too big city for me. A short visit is more then enough for a European.

Sao Paulo is Unique. Abundant of excellent Restaurants, Theaters, Night Clubs and Museums Sao Paulo is whats the best out there in my opinion. The people are gorgeous and very polite. Transportation system is very efficient. I also went to the beach which is fairly close, about 2 hours by car, traveling in magnificent highways...Oh my god... The super highways provide you a view of one of most dense forests in the planet. Its breathtaking... SAO PAULO IS THE BEST!!!!!!

I don't know, why so many people are so negative about Sao Paulo. I don't know whether it is envy, or if some people are just frightened of enormous cities. Greater SP will have 22 million people by 2015. We have 43,000 high-rise buildings, 480 discotheques, 17,800 clubs and bars, 13,000 restaurants, 83 museums, 79 theaters, all parks together have the area of the city of Frankfurt. There is nothing you cannot find here. It is amazing to live here. I lived in Europe for 4 years when I studiewd over there. I was so happy to come back to SP, cause you'll hardly find such a place on earth!

Fascinating urban metropolis of 17 million people; my favorite city in the world. Good underground music scene, world class restaurants to fit every budget, culturally enriched, exciting sports, great parks, modern and efficient subway system, etc. Like any other place, this city does have it's problems (crime, traffic, pollution, poverty) and thus, can be fairly intimidating for the first time traveler. Therefore, a basic knowledge of at least some Portuguese is reccomended and will greatly enhance your experience here. As a brief stopover, without necessary travel information/prior research, one's first impression may not be the best, especially if one is use to the typical, popular, conventionally- beautiful tourist mecca ( Alcapulco, Rio De Janeiro, etc). So yes, it must be said - Sao Paulo is no beach resort; it is for the urban traveler exclusively! However, if one does some research or knows people from here who are able to show them around this interesting city - in all it's fa... Read more

I don't like this city, I don't know how a person can live out there. It's totally messy and dangerous. It just worth for some restaurants and museums.

Buenos Aires can be european but São Paulo is the economic city of Latin America. Enormous, with a strong cultural side, beautiful museums. New modern comercial towers are being build making it the most modern city of L.A. São Paulo is the place in L.A. where you find all the books and CDs you want, all kind of restaurants, etc. Argetinians love to say they're whiter than Brazilian but the truth is that while Argentinians are always spanish or italians, Brazilians are Portugueses + Italians + Germans + Polish + French + Swiss + Africans + Japaneses making it a much more diversified country.

A horrible, heinous city of freaky looking high rises, and shrine-like shopping malls, the city is made bearable by a kick-ass nightlife, great restaurants, really cool people, and a beautiful coast (litoral de Sao Paulo) within driving distance.

Ugly and smells pretty bad. The people are wonderful, though.
