We went there last year for a couple of nights and had a good time. It was a family vacation so no hitting the bars at nite or anything like that. We are going back in June for 3 nights. Going to Williamsburg to take kids to Busch gardens mostly during our trip. But I really enjoyed the beach there. The only bad thing last year was a forest fire in NC made the area really smoky. Also the military planes coming in and out of the area are very loud. I look forward to doing a little fishing and hanging out at the beach.

This place has improved from years ago. More nice hotels along the boardwalk, and the boardwalk had some events going on like kite contests, etc... Plenty of places to eat almost all year round, though you may have to drive slightly. The place seemed a lot dirtier and grungier when I went here in 1991, but in 2004, completely different. Beach had plenty of sand...was very nice. The stores across the street from the ocean aren't bad, but could use improvement. For NFL fans, plenty of places with NFL tickets to see games of your favorite team.

Viriginia Beach is a nice place to visit. Are there nicer boardwalks and beaches yes but this one is nice. The beach is very nice, the boardwalk is a little cheesy. There is plenty to do and I would go back there. However it would not be my first choice to visit. I like Ocean City, hampton beach and Jesrsey boardwalks better. But unlike Megallan's review I am not holding a bad drunk to the falt of Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach is essentially 2 cities in one. There's the oceanfront, which has a decent beach and boardwalk, but pales to other east coast resorts like Wildwood, Ocean City MD, or Myrtle Beach. For those seeking nightlife, you'll be dealing with rude rednecks, drunken sailors (the Norfolk Naval Base is nearby), and gangbanger wannabees. Police are out in full force at night, and they'll throw you in the slammer at the least provocation. The other Virginia Beach is a very residential town. Believe it or not, it is the most populated city in Virginia. Going into neighborhoods like Kempsville, you'd think you were in Illinois or something, as there is nothing resembling a resort town. Most residents of Virginia Beach hardly ever even bother going to the Oceanfront (except during Christmas when they have the Holiday Lights on the Boardwalk). If you must visit, be aware the town is cold and rainy until after Memorial Day (so avoid as a spring break destination).

It's always cloudy, and the people there have a major lack of personality!

If it's been a bad year financially and the family is clamoring for a beach vacation, take them to Myrtle Beach. If your angry at them and want to exact some vengeance or retribution against them, take them here.

The north end is great-wide beach, relaxed atmosphere. Getting to VaBeach is a hassle. Why do people insist on slowing to 25mph in the Hampton Roads Tunnel? Claustrophobia, I guess.

Two lighthouses at Cape Henry, the boardwalk and lots of ships on the sea make this a nice beach destination, among other factors.

I used to travel down there every couple of weekends to see my girlfriend and I always enjoyed the sights and sounds of Virginia beach. Rollerblading along the boardwalk, walks at night on the beach, sun and sand during the day, Sunday brunch at Rudy's Inlet (you have to try that place -- the crabs benedict are awesome), bike riding throught the park. Everything was amazing.

I have only been here once, and it was not an enjoyable experience. I had been standing in line, drunk, waiting to get into the Georgetown University pub, when someone had the bright idea to "roadtrip to Virginia Beach." Next thing we know, it's 6AM and we are at Virginia Beach. It is raining, and cold, everything is closed, and we all had transitioned from being happily drunk, to being brutally hungover. And that was my VA beach experience.
