Or how about Normal circumstances being changed for the worst. Is this god? Never underestimate probability or sheer dumb luck...

I agree with Donovan. God has this ability where He can make something which was for our harm work out for our good. And the thing which was meant for our harm, God uses that as the thing to bless us. It is like the example of Joseph in Genesis 42 to 45 where his brothers were jealous of him so tried to kill him, when they couldn't they sold him as a slave to the Egyptians. But God used that to save Israel because of the fact that Joseph became so successful in Egypt, that he became the governor.

UPDATE: The fact that God brings you through a tragic circumstance I think is a miracle. I have had such events completely changed for the better because of prayer. Original Message: I have experienced so many tragic events in my life. Even though at the time it very difficult, I have always came out of the situation as a better person. God has never left or forsaken me.
