NEVER use Speakeasy. I wish I had enough sense to check the reviews online before we set this service up for our business. We went with them when we moved our office because our IT guy raved about them, and we were sick of Time Warner. I never thought we would miss Time Warner, but I would be so happy to have them back. I'm the office manager at work and I've spent HOURS and HOURS of my time on the phone with Speakeasy trying to fix so many PROBLEMS. They've put me on hold for 45 minutes before. And once I called and their lines were crossed with a Law Firm. What kind of operation are they running? It's such a waste of my time. We've had problems from day one. The internet drops out constantly. It's so hard for us to do business like this. And when I finally talk to someone there they tell me to unplug and plug back in, and talk to me like I'm an IDIOT! Well guess what... even if I stood by the wall and power-cycled the modem all day long it still wouldn't fix YOUR FAULTY IN... Read more

I set up an account for my business in NYC. The sales person was bragging about the speed and that they where taking care of dealings with verizon and there superior customer service. He also added I would get 1 month free rebatte etc etc. I signed up received an online package, went click on the rebatte link filled it out and thought done. The interface is tricky and if one does not careful reads all the details it makes one believe you posted the rebate. Did not happen, semi scam. I contacted the great customer service via e mail - which the sales person told me is an great way of working, but they asked to call in. Waiting 20 plus minute, that is when you start to appreciate Verizon. Finally they gave me an extension. Anyhow long talking, again a couple of weeks later asking me what I wanted and to send an e mail summon it up. What was this person doing whilst I talked to him. Playing online games, reading newspaper. All in all the service never really worked as promised, they charg... Read more

I wish I had listened to you guys before I made the mistake of calling speakeasy. I was kind of happy to have this service, then one day, my service was down. I thought it was just a computer thing and it would be back up on its own. Nope. I started a trouble ticket the next day and now it has been 10 days and I still have no service. There is a short in the telephone line about 1 foot from the telephone company they tell me. Do you know what it is like to be without internet access for 10 days? My telephone service, netflix and even my security system needs to have an internet connection to work. Not to mention the porn my little brother has not been able to download. He is cranky. :-) Seriously, I dug out the cable modem from the closet and called Time Warner. They suck too, but at least they will eventually get it working. And my speed is about 8 times faster and 1/2 the price. Thanks, CarlG (my speakeasy user name)

I got Speakeasy because my I needed a static IP address, and my computer guy, who I trust completely, raved about their service. I've had problems from day one. They charged me an extra couple of hundred dollars that they didn't bother to mention ahead of time for Covad coming out to make the lines ready for service (or something). After many, many communications with Speakeasy, they finally removed the charge...but getting them to agree to remove it was no small nightmare. While I never had any problems at all with Time Warner, now I was having problems all the time with my, when working, shockingly slow Internet, especially the download speeds. In the last month, my service has been down more than up, and some jerk just told me that I had to keep using them because I had (unknowingly) agreed to a contract. Please, please tell me how I managed to do that when I was scared to try them in the first place? Unless someone snuck in a commitment when I wasn't looking, I promise ... Read more

With Speakeasy we experienced disconnects every month which were killing our business. I spent hours on the phone with them and all together had 20 trouble tickets in the period of a year. Finally I had enough and cancelled my service siting poor performance (obviously). They later charged my credit card on file for $1000.00 cancellation fee. I had never paid them by CC, but I had one on file from when I signed up. The charge was completely unauthorized. If you have had a similar experience file a complaint with the BBB at www.bbb.org. It may at least help the next guy.

Bad Bad Bad, It started off okay. The first call where they took my order. Then they said it would be 3 weeks before they could install. 2 days later they called back and said they got someone to come out in a few days but I needed to take the day off. I get paid by the hour so taking the day off really hurts but I wanted internet so I stayed home. THEY NEVER SHOWED UP! They reschedule for the next Wednesday. I tell them I will not be in town on Wednesday. They still show up and call me in the middle of a 3000 person lecture. I tell them like I told them before I am out of town. I also tell them as they all ready cost me several hundred dollars for missing the first appointment that they have to give me a morning time frame. They say okay. A few days later I get a notice they are coming out on Tuesday. I wait until 12pm. They never show.I go to work. They call at 4pm saying they've arrived at my place. I'm like WTF. I EFFING TOLD YOU YOU HAD TO COME IN THE MORNING AND YOU AGR... Read more

Be careful. The service in my area was terrible. I had voip and dsl through SpeakEasy, until I finally couldn't take it anymore. It took longer than they promised to set up. And they charged me more than I was quoted. Now they want a cancellation fee from me. DSL install worked fine at first. Then many times I experienced DNS issues. These were so intermittant however that it was hard to report them. I had several outages in just a few months, and each time I had to spend hours on hold. Then my DSL modem died. When I received the new one. I hooked it up, and was told there was another outage. Having been without telephone service in my house for a couple weeks, that was it for me. I told them to cancel it. Now they want to charge me a cancellation fee, but I intend to continue to dispute it with them in court if need be. This is not standard practice in the industry, and given the amount of outages I experienced, they were clearly unable to provide the service that I contracted... Read more

I am writing this review so that people who research their business before signing up might have a chance to save themselves a ton of trouble from a shady company with deceptive practices. First I will discuss the installation issues. It took them five (5)!!! weeks to get to my house to do the install. In all fairness ( I insist on giving an accurate representation of my dealings) the installer was friendly and thorough. The problem with the length of time it took them was complicated by SBC. Apparantly the two companies have a lack of communication. I needed an additional line strung into my house. It took two weeks for SBC to come to my house. The tech said there was a problem with the line and unfortunately he didn't know what the problem was. He then informed me that I needed to contact Speakeasy for further assistance, which I promptly did. Eventually SBC came out and dug a gigantic hole in my backyard measuring ten feet by ten feet and ten feet deep. They installed a n... Read more
