I'm drinking one right now. It has a nice sweet aftertaste to it that I really enjoy. I don't normally drink this brand, but I may have to start. It has a lot of flavor to it.

This is one of the best imported ales! I can also respect that a certain amount is made in Scotland, which I think is amazing. If Guinness is the "lard" of beer, than this is the butter.

I gave this four stars instead of five only because I bought this when my daughter-in-law (who is from England) was here with my son and she made me a beef & ale pie. She gave me the recipe and I've been making it ever since, using Newcastle. I've even used it in my beef stew. It brings my beef dishes up to a whole new level. It gives beef a taste to die for! Even though it's more expensive than regular beer, it's WELL worth it! Also, I'm not really a beer drinker because I never liked the taste of beer. But I've had some of this ale and found it to be actually very good.

Pretty tastee sweet smooth nutty. however im drinking a big bottle that must've been sitting and its super skunky grossbut on tap or in a case is always a winner

Great beer. Goes down Smooth, great flavor and no skunky Aftertaste. My only complaint is the clear Glass bottle. Beer has no business being served in clear bottles. It really does effect the taste. If you are going to buy a 12 pack of this keep it in the box and put the box in the Fridge. That is your best bet for keeping the flavor. Either that or drink quickly.

Love the creamy , nutty flavour. MMM...maybe I'll go get some for my NFL gameday today.
newcastle rocks 08/24/2009
Awesome beer, even better if you let its temperature get closer to room temp. As the label suggests; "Drink cool" I'm tired of getting skunky Heinekens here in NY.
PCPeter774 08/19/2009
I really like the flavor and the smooth finish on this brew. No bitter aftertaste. My one issue is with the bottling, clear bottle is beer's worst enemy.
msmaggie007 07/16/2009
This is my favorite mass brewed beer bar none.... (bar none, get it? Bad joke, forget it). Anyhow... I do love micro-breweries and yes, I have tasted better beer. BUT for ease of acquiring in the states it is marvelous. My entire family knows that whenever Maggie comes to visit have a couple of newcastles ready for me.
rocktrans 07/09/2009
Had this for the first time a year ago and it quickly became my go to beer. Can have 4 or 12 and feel very satisfied.

Newcastle Brown Ale was one of the first dark beers I started to like besides Guinness and Yuengling Black & Tan. It has a smooth, somewhat mild taste (which is characteristic of English style brown ales). Brown beers have a malt-y, slightly sweet flavor which I much prefer to hoppy flavor of beers like India Pale Ales.
Mantas34 05/14/2009
A fine ale, good taste, although a one unique one! This is an ale, no need for lager fizzy big heads! Its fine for me, long live the Broon Ale!
irishpub 03/16/2009
The brown ale is awesome!!

EschewObfuscat ion 02/15/2009
A bit heavy but flavorful. Once in a while it does the trick.
BevyBev9 02/15/2009
i love ittttttttt.. i must admit i was a CORONA lover.. but since i tried Newcastle .. its all i drink !!
FranksWildYear s 02/13/2009
Now we are talking about beer. While not the most distinctive darker ale around, it at least has the character to stick around for a while on your taste buds.
Doctor of Madness 02/12/2009
Great color! Nice taste! Newcastle is the definition of brown ale.
irishgit 02/12/2009
A substantial, nuanced ale. There are certainly better brown ales on the market, but this is readily available in most markets, and always reliable.

not so bad
g8rhoo 05/31/2008
It's okay, but I wouldn't want to drink it all the time.
trebon1038 05/28/2008
A lot of people around here just love this beer. I'm not a huge dark beer drinker but it isnt bad.
jagerbomber 05/18/2008
Love my Newcastles. Since I have started drinking them I will probably never drink any American domestic beers anymore. These are my hands down favorite, drinking some now!! Never was a big beer drinker, I tend to drink jager more often than beer. But I do enjoy throwin back a few newkies.
Spike65 04/30/2008
Would have rated much higher but my large bottle had gone skunky due to clear glass bottle and sold from a lighted display case. Had a new one from a 12 ounce can and it was quite pleasant. I could drink a number of these in one sitting. Recommend the canned version due to skunk issues from clear glass bottles.
myspace-288252375 04/21/2008
Bah, it's piss!
Larz1 03/03/2008
I've tried it several times, but now I only drink it if the bar is out of REAL dark beer. It has a bit of a dusty flavor with a rusty aftertaste. I've had good British beer, and this doesn't measure up.
Automatt 02/11/2008
Give me as much nookie as possible.

Another good selection.

A fine British ale.
DarjeelingUnli mited 11/14/2007
Very good beer. It's not anything special but it's still very very good. It even makes a good party beer. Good flavor, nice color. This might not be my favorite but there are far worse beers out there.
sperryc 11/14/2007
I'm not excited about this beer the way some people are. I think it has a nice taste, I just don't see myself becoming brand-loyal to this one... I think it's the sweetness...
CzechMate 11/14/2007
Suprisingly good beer!
mattyk 07/02/2007
diffenently a fav beer. brits can brew it
magilla 11/14/2006
A very good ale. Highly recommend it.
ArkCracker 11/14/2006
I used to drink this a lot. It's still not bad I just rarely get it. Seems like they could drop the "new" though now, it's been out forever. Just go with Castle Brown Ale.
helmut 10/23/2006
Ooh, I am really starting to like this beer. Had it on draught. Pours golden brown with a white head. Very nutty. Good with bar food. Nothing better than having a burger and a couple of 22oz Newkie Browns.
burpfrank! 04/13/2006
probably the best most available beer I have had.I have had better beers, but not so widley available.
J-Bark 04/04/2006
My personal favorite dinner beer right there in front of Negra Modelo and Harp. If I could carry this in my thermos to work......I would.

The Geordies know how to make beer!

At one time, Newcastle Brown Ale was food AND drink for me. I loved it. About 6 months ago I noticed changes. First the new "red" colored 12 pack box as sold in the USA. Next, the striking similiarities with Bass Ale packaging. The killing blow took place the night I noticed the famous scotch 'aftertaste' was no longer a part of what once was, for hundreds of years, one of the best brown ales on the planet Earth. God Bless America and how our culture, values, rigid mind set, and literalism has corrupted the entire globe. Someone 'over there' has taken the good ol American way and ruined a great ale. SHAME ! Shame on all those that took part in this disgusting rape of the original brewer's loving appreciation for a great brown ale brewed from the grains and herbs of the earth in exchange for the greed of the god almighty mammon. I am NOT kidding. 23-October-2005
PowerBen5000 08/26/2005
A pretty decent brew, not very expensive for an import either. I was underwhelmed by the flavor though, for a beer that is esteemed so highly its flavor is less than complex, but still manages to satisfy. I prefer beers that challenge my tastes a little more.
CanadaSucks 07/29/2005
Not bad, but a little sweet for my taste. A decent brown beer.
pad20b 07/09/2005
am from the north east of England and all i can say is that it is not the best selling beer in the UK for nothing! Rich, dark and utterly outstanding, better than guiness anyday!
dpostoskie 07/06/2005
Good flavor and easy to drink.
OldSeaRock 04/18/2005
Every taste is different. Newcastle is flat and sour, much better options are available. I'd rather have a bloody Watney's Red Barrel!
GARMAT 03/20/2005
If you can't get a Smithwicks, a Newcastle is close.
