St Lukes Episcopal Church 5

BEST FISH FRY EVER !!!!!
If you hang around New Orleans after Mardi Gras be sure to get yourself some ashes on Ash Wednesday and then some fish on Friday. It is a christian obligation to abstain from red meat during the Lenten Season and like most southern towns New Orleans is all FISH on Fridays. I have dined at some of the best seafood spots in New Orleans (from GW Fins to Dragos) but when it comes down to frying for a cause nothing beats a wholesome New Orleans church fish fry. Don't get me wrong.. I love white tableclothe and real silver but who can argue with going to eat, conversing with good people and supporting HIM at the same time. There's alot of good places to get your fish but my favorite is a little known place named ST LUKES CHURCH located at 1222 North Dorgenois St. It's just off the corner of culturally rich Esplanade Avenue and Broad St, right behind John McDonough School or "John MacK" as the locals say.
ST LUKES CHURCH, the small church nestled between 100+ year old oaks has one huge palatine secret.. The secret is none other than Head Chef Larry. Chef Larry is a spice master. He not only can cook but with every mouthful you are sent on a wonderful flavor escapade. His style seams to be fueled by his diverse heritage. See Chef Larry was born in Guatemala of Jamaican parentage. While growing up in a heavily latin community, Chef Larry started to hone his skills. Traveling later to Jamaica, his parents home country, Chef Larry further developed his appreciation for the culinary arts. Finally upon entering the US armed forces and serving this country as a decorated soldier for many years, Chef Larry retired from service and took his masterful proven skills on tour. Fluent in English, Jamaican Patois, and Spanish...Chef Larry is a sight just to observe. Whether it's baking or frying, St Lukes own Chef Larry is making New Orleans a Lenten Fish Fry Haven.
Stop by St LUKES CHURCH 1222 North Dorgenois NOLA 70119 every Friday during Lent and tell Chef Larry I sent you. If you're like me, call ahead at (504) 821-0529 so you can beat the rush and have your fresh hot fish ready when you get there. They even deliver if you order 3 or more plates.

St Luke's has that familiar feeling of being at a family reunion; You don't everybody but you know you have a bond. The choir is very good and the service not too stuffy. You'll feel at home right away
