I recently rented a car from Avis through Priceline.com's "name your own price" option. I got a great rate and I recommend that people use this option. In any event, I rented the car at Avis's location at the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport location. I arrived at the rental car center at what is typically a very busy time. There was not wait in line, the customer service agent was very friendly and helpful and did not try to shove options I did not want down my throat. I had reserved a full-sized car and was a bit leery after my experience with Hertz the previous year when they gave me their version of a full-size car, a Nissan Altima. Avis provided me with an almost brand new Toyota Camry which was in tip top condition. It still had that new car smell and it was beautiful. It drove great and got great mileage. I will definitely rent from Avis again in the future.

I rented a Chevy suv for 2 days from the Avis willow grove PA location and paid $400. The day I was supposed to return at 4pm I called Avis, where i rented it from and my call had been redirected to their customer service else where and i didnt even know that. I was thinking that im talking to the guy at the willow grove location and asked if I could return it at 4.30 and Asked if i would be charged extra if so. The guy whom I spoke to said it was perfectly fine to return at 4.30 and that I wouldn't be charged anything. Unfortunatly I forgot to get his name. When I went to return it he billed me another extra $140. None of the employees there were able to speak proper English first of all including the customer service representative I spoke to. They have no idea what they're talking about and very very rude and unprofessional. When I called their manager she argued with me for 45 mins and said they don't know which customer service representative spoke to me, I wish I had his name. R... Read more

I recently rented a car from Avis at Sears in Mayagüez, they charged the deposit twice and never explained anything to us.Because of this I now have to pay extra bank charges. They also wanted to charge $9.60 a gallon for the gas. The worst part is that they never apologized for anything and never acknowledged their mistakes. Sucks big time. Read more: http://www.rateitall.com/c-8-travel-food-culture.aspx#ixzz1ozOvRdQO

RIp-off! Avoid 68 E11st location in NYC or AVIS in general. I rented a full-size car with and chose the option to "return full". Before returning the car, I filled it up on my way back into the city, until the gaz nozzle snapped off. I did this in the Bronx, given the rarity of gas stations in Manhattan. Upon returning the car, the fuel gauge was on "full". Nevertheless, the attendant charged me 15,97USD in gas. Upon inquiry, he said the car was not full. I protested, and so he used the gas pump in the AVIS station. He managed to fill in some 1.6 gallons, follwoing which a rather rude lady behind the counter explained to me that this was the "penalty price" for not returning full. I rent about 30 cars per year on weekends. This was the first time I tried out AVIS, as I usually rent with other agencies. I always choose the option to return the car with as much gas as it had in it upon pick-up, and this has never happened to me before. First of all, if there is no gas station next to th... Read more

We rented a minivan to take us from Vero Beach, FL to the Orlando Airport January 2012. About 1/2 hour or 45 minutes into the drive minivan got a flat. We pulled into a reststop and called the roadside assistance number. I told her our location and what had happened and that we needed the situation resolved quickly so that we wouldn't miss our flight. The person on the phone argued with me for half an hour+, said she couldn't find our location without an exit number even though I told her what milepost we were at, highway we were on, reststop we were at and how far we were from the nearest town. She put us on hold repeatedly and seemed to be lacking normal mental faculties. I finally hung up and called back to talk to a supervisor. Finally after 53 minutes on the phone with these incompetent people they said that they were sending a tow truck and that it would be there in an hour. We had to leave the minivan and call friends to drive us to the airport so that we wouldn't miss o... Read more

AVOIDI would rather walk across country than ever rent a car from Avis again. I rented a car from Avis, Millington, TN for the week of 11/5/2012 thru 11/12/2012. First of all I was told I had to bring the car back at the exact same time I took it out or pay another day. No other car rental agency I have used has ever done that. As long as I bring the car back on the day I am supposed, I'm good. Second, when I did bring the car back I took it to the gas station and filled it until the pump kept shutting off and would not pump anymore. When the rental agent, Marilyn, looked at the guage it was a hair off full. I told her that I had just filled it. She said she was going to go and fill it some more or charge me $75.00 to fill the tank. I told her I had just come from the gas station across the street and it would not take another penny's worth of gas. She acted like she didn't believe me but didn't charge me after I refused to pay. Third, she also told me that I would have to take the car... Read more

The problems I had with Avis on a recent trip to England and Europe are too numerous to mention. In a nutshell - they are incompetent, apart from Munich airport spoke no English, were closed when they were supposed to be open, shrugged without care on how they inconvenienced us and finally ripped us off big time on our credit card - there has to be some way to pay them using a travel card as the exchange rate they used to convert Euros and Sterling were totally to their advantage and designed to rip you off big time. Also I left a full tank of petrol and they still charged me - very difficult to find where to complain to especially once you are back in Australia. They nearly caused us to miss our plane by the run around they gave us in France and we effectively lost a day's travel due to the way they stuffed us around - a story too long to tell. SUFFICE TO SAY I WILL NOT BE USING AVIS AGAIN (EVEN IF I AM AN AVIS PREFERRED CUSTOMER)!! By the way I think all car hire companies sho... Read more

Reserved car with debit card, no problem. Got to Savannah International Airport from Boston and Avis would not actually rent us the car with debit card or cash. Noone told us this when we reserved the car with debit. So the employee says "I know you are here for the graduation (my daughters from Parris Island boot camp) I'm sorry there is nothing I can do for you." And sent us on our way to sit in the airport and wonder what we were going to do. Thank goodness for Enterprise, they said "Need a car, no problem!" We will forever be loyal to Enterprise and forever disgusted with Avis.

i understand there is bad customer service in the world today but unfortunately there is no two way around that. every store you enter, every call center you call, every hotline you call is bound to have one bad apple or two and you can complain about it all you want (cause i know i do lol) and even post it online but that is not going to stop other people from shopping or calling there because maybe you're the only one that's had the bad experience and if you're complaining about that one person then you are costing him his/her job when all he/she really might need is an attitude adjustment or a little more training. but then again the attitude goes both ways. if you walk up to a clerk with a smirky smile and you start cussing and yelling and making a scene and causing more drama than needed then yes you are bound to get an attitude from the clerk that is trying to help you. i, personally, have never rented a car from Avis so i can't give a good or bad report on them but i have worked... I have used many different car rental companies with excellent results, but not with Avis and their bullshit. I reserved a car through their website only to find out that they did not have the class of car that I had booked, so I was forced to upgrade (holiday weekend and no other companies had cars left, i checked). Thankfully they discounted the upgrade by more than 50% so I was not too pissed off. But the major issue was when I returned the car. I filled up the tank the way I was supposed to and drove it to their lot. The return attendant, had some lady drive the car to a gas station to see if it would take gas. Well of course it is going to take gas, I just drove it there and the lady was going to drive it additionally as well. When the lady returns she said the car needed 3 gallons of gas, which had to be a down right lie being that I just filled it up; I would have had to driven the car about 40 miles for it to require 3 gallons of gas. So they charged me 3 gallons of gas... Read more

Three problems: 1- The car I rented was DIRTY -there was some kind of white powder all over the carpets. 2- They failed to honor a discount and upgrade offer which was advertised on their website. 3- They told me the location was open until 6 and it closed at 5. Then they charged me $200.00 for returning the car late. Even though it was only late because they had given me incorrect information.

I would never rent with Avis again. In fact, the only reason I gave them 1 star is because I could not give them anything less. We rented a car from Avis for 2 days from their Plaza Playacar location in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. The rate was quoted as $118 USD. Since all of the optional insurances, a full tank of gas and a one-way drop off to the airport were included in the rate, we booked it. Avis could not process my return on the day of drop off because they were having computer issues. When I checked my Mastercard bill some days later, they had charged me $308. When I phoned to complain, they admitted to making an error and returned $107.50. They then mailed me a copy of the credit receipt, which was actually someone else's credit receipt with a credit of $226.90. I now have some poor shmucks VISA information and someone out there has my Mastercard information. I can't wait to be the victim of fraudulent Mastercard transactions. On top of that, I'm still out $82.50!

Horrible, never ever again... first I thought I did a great pick, and got a week for $260, but I returned the car with an almost full tank, and got charged $40 for gas (not more then 2 Gallon) and $55 for winter tires, which I didn't want, but they only had cars with winter tires. Now a week later I looked and see they charged me a total of $151... WTF?? Tried to email them, but there is an error on the site. DO NOT rent with AVIS!!!!

less then terrible...NEGATIVE Never Again GUY's BE CAREFUL... We flew into Orlando airport and were ready to enjoy 8 days away from home. We had a reservation with Avis through Hotwire.com for a compact car (travel only in Orlando-Disney).And, rental counter was busy and it took 45 minutes to get on to a counter/service rep, she was talking all cock&bull stories, there it started the trouble, she was trying to sell more what actually I requested via hot wire and I decline all (example: go for upgrade, insurance) and I clearly told no upgrade and no smoking car and she said ok and for that they charged me $30 plus taxes per day and it was my bad that I didn't check the documents before leaving the counter in-spite of my telling no upgrade she printed the documents as upgrade and i noticed this only on the day i was returning the car and I went to the counter for that it was Horrible response as they got what they want and no need of this customer that was behavior. What a great company! After reading many reviews of all the major car rental choices I'll admit I was scared. I rarely travel beyond where I can drive, but this time I had to go to Phoenix AZ to my daughter's graduation from ASU. The desk agent seemed a little pushy on suggesting a bigger car. He asked several questions about where in AZ we would be driving. I like to drive and we wanted to see the state as my daughter now lives there. We put 2000 miles on a Mercury grand marquis in a week. He was right. The car was perfect for our trip and was only $10 a day more than the small car I had reserved. I was very careful in checking the car when we turned it in, but I still missed something. When we unpacked at home I realized my GPS was missing. It is an expensive mapping unit I use for hiking, hunting and just about any important locating or marking situation. It had slipped rearward on the floor under the center of the front seat. My wife's smart phone worked better for ou... Read more

This was the first and LAST TIME I will ever rent a car from this company. i LIVE IN mIAMI AND REETED IT one of their cars at their new, Miami International Airport location. It uses deceitful and dishonest billing methods. WHATEVER YOU DO , DO NOT sign any contracts with them andif you must use Avis get the hard copy of your total charges. I reserved a car for $ 293 and even got a confirmation from them by email with this price. I was billed instead ofr ALMOST $900!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM AVIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF!

I've decided that instead of reading each one of these ridiculous posts and commenting I'm going to just post a large message that can just encompass all of my issues with these complaints. 1. If you are renting a car make a reservation beforehand and print your information or have it readily available on a device of some kind. If you dont have any information such as a quoted rate than you are subject to whatever the rates may be that day. If you forget that information that's your fault. 2. Avis is not responsible for you losing your stuff. That's plain and simple. 3. If you don't have enough money or a high enough credit score to rent a car than just shut your mouth and accept that fact. And stop trying to pay cash to rent a car. If you actually stopped and thought about that you would understand why rental companies don't do that. As for the credit check thing, why wouldn't Avis want to protect their vehicles and insure that that they get paid? The bank runs your cr... Read more

The worst experience I ever had was at the AVIS office in MARSEILLE (France) at the Gare Saint-Charles not so long ago... Weeks before my arrival I had requested a GPS because I needed to get around town quite a lot during my stay... Although I had telephoned the office to confirm the GPS-reservation twice prior to my arrival there were no GPS available when I arrived... When I told the receptionist I needed the car with GPS for professional reasons she advised me to drive directly (it was a late Friday night) to the AVIS office at the Marseille Airport to see if they had any GPS left I could rent... When I told her it might be a bit difficult for a foreigner to drive at night from the city centre of Marseille to the airport without a GPS she shrugged her shoulders, went and got me a paper map from her colleagues from Budget-Rent-A-Car across the room and started drawing the road to my hotel on the map... I rented a car from Avis on 21st of July 2010 from Munchen and delivered back on 21st July 2010 from Frankfurt Hahn. (Yes, I rented for 5 hours, my rental number is below) . When I delivered the car I wanted to pay by cash, but the woman in charge said it is not good to pay by cash. I insist to pay by cash because I need my credit card limit for other expenses. Anyway, they said OK and checked the car and they said they have found big scratches on the car (a scratch bigger then 3cm is called big scratch, I know now). And yes, they have charged me 850 euros!!! ... That was really big shock to me. I drove the car from Munchen to Frankfurt without stopping the car and when I delivered the car I was charged for the scratches that I didn't do. When I get the car from Munchen, I saw some white dirt at the back of the car but I didn't care because they looked like some bird piss to me. And when I delivered the car they showed the same white dirt to me as a scratch and they blamed as I did it ... Read more

On returning my mid-size rent car at Denver International Airport, the agent that checked me in was extremely rude when I asked about some of the unexpected additional charges that showed up on the receipt he handed me. As I got out of the car, he was extremely impatient as I collected my belongings and took my luggage out of the car's trunk. Then, he quickly handed me my receipt and walked away. I found myself standing there in the weather, scanning the receipt, trying to decipher the additional charges on the receipt. When I looked up to ask a question, he was already at another vehicle repeating the hurried process. I approached him with my question, and he gave me a very terse and sarcastic response. Its a wonder that AVIS is "Number 2" in the car rental business and not "Number 99." Never again.

Don't rent from Avis Rent a car, they will rip you off big time and the service they provide is very unprofessional. We rented a Hyndai 12-passenger van and they told us that it was mandatory to take LDW--loss damage waiver--even though we were using a credit card, in which case Avis states you can decline the coverage. We left home at approx. 4 a.m. and arrived in Dominican Republic at approx. 11 a.m., we were scheduled to pick up the vehicle at 12 noon. We were told that because we were early the vehicle was not ready and had to be dropped off at noon. We had to be calling back and forth to Avis. for hours, there were children in our group and we had to hire a taxi because we needed to get them something to eat. The car was finally dropped off at approx. 6 p.m.

My Mother was crying from the frustration on the way home from the pickup location. We called several times, and upgraded 3 times to be assured a car comfortable for the 4 large people, with luggage, on an 8 hour road trip from Seattle to Boise. The car they had for us was filthy. It was obviously un-washed, with lots of hair stuck to all of the seats, dried mud on the carpet and chairs, dead bugs on the windshield/front end and the doorjambs looked like they have never been wiped down. The car we were given was a small 4 door Nissan Altima (with a weak 4cly engine). Melisa insisted that this was a "Full Size" car. The disgusting small Nissan was underwhelming to say the least. They had bigger/better vehicles on the lot that we could see, but we were told they had "no other cars". The people inside were utterly rude (especially the girl Melisa, who was combative and scathing in every tone and expression). The crew obviously hated their jobs and had no interest in seeing their clients... Read more

Avis doesn't deserve any stars!!! My family and I went on an 11 day trip from our home state of Tennessee to Seattle, Washington and then on a 7 day Alaskan cruise. We were on the last leg of our trip in Anchorage, Alaska and went to the airport to get our rental car that we had already arranged through Avis and my dad had already arranged to pay with his debit card that is backed by Visa. When my dad got to the counter the man wouldn't accept his debit card even if it was backed by a major credit card company. So my dad takes out cash and offers to pay them for the price that he owed and they wouldn't accept his money!! They said "WE ONLY ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS!!" I mean who does that? So there we are stuck in Anchorage, Alaska about 4,700 miles from home with no means of transportation. We ended up having to rent from National for $60 more than the price that Avis was supposedly going to give us our rental car for. National was great by the way so I would suggest renting from t... We reserved a Chevy Impala for a week long family vacation. When we went to pick up the car they informed us that they did not have Impala's at that location and offered us a Camry instead. Okay, fine except the car they showed us was so dirty that it had a years worth of bugs glued to the front of the car and we never even got as far as the inside. Then they tell us they have this new sysem that runs all payments through Equifax and 8 out of every 10 cards are being rejected. Therefore since we were in the lucky 8 we had to pay an additional $26/day for their premium insurance package even though we already had better personal insurance then their premium package. When we offered to pay in cash upfront, they told us they dont' take cash. These new policies were not disclosed when we made the reservation and forcing people to pay the price of an additional rental car per day for mandatory insurance is almost criminal.

My experience at LAX was excellent (June 27 to July 3, 2010). They offered a choice between two medium sized sedans (Mitsubishi or Hyundai) and I was on the road after 10 minutes. The car was clean, comfortable, and responsive (I generally maintained 70 mph without any effort). When I returned for check-in after 6 days, it took no more than 3 minutes to hand over the keys and head to the airport shuttle. Really! I can't believe the terrible experiences that other people have posted on this site. I trust that they are honest, but I have only a very positive reaction to the Avis service. Considering that I paid a super low rate at $25 per day from Priceline, I was willing to accept negative comments from the agent when I arrived, but that didn't happen. I would recommend Avis at LAX to anyone going through LaLa Land.

Can I give a negative number? In all reality, this review is for the Avis at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, TX. I am not writing for all Avis locations, but have gotten no resolution when going to Avis' corporate HQ, so I've had to resort to hitting the online review sites. I travel to Houston almost every week for business, and am required to rent from Avis. If things don't improve soon, I'll be resorting to either cabbing it eveywhere or buying a car that I leave at the airport on weekends. On the occasions when I land later in the evenings, they seldom have the class of car that i've rented (full sized) available. I'm told that "we don't have any right now." Hmm...kinda funny, because I've had co-workers arrive first thing in the AM and there are plenty of them then. What do they do, put the cars to bed after a certain time? I've also requested certain amenities to my car, specifically non-smoking and 6-way power seats. Non-smoking because I don't smoke a... Read more

Sneaky. They have a set fuel charge you will automatically be charged if you drive less than a certain number of miles and don't bring them a gas receipt. This isn't a big deal compared to what happened last time I went to rent from them. The agent told me the class of car I had signed up for. Then she said "I could put you in a Prius. Is that ok?" I initially agreed, since I thought that was what she was giving me for the class I had signed up for. She started typing away, and I asked if that would be extra. She said yes. I shouldn't have to ask about things like that. The way she said it made it sound like that was one of the options for the class I had paid for. I then had to decline all the extra services she tried to get me to buy several times. I said no the first time, and she said "Well we recommend getting the..." and "Are you sure you don't want the...". How many times do I have to say no? If you rent from Avis, be very very careful about fees, and when in doubt, ask questio... Read more

I was charged for an extra day because my flight arrived a bit early and I picked it up just prior to when I was scheduled to. I noticed an estimated charge of $64 at the time of pick up when I asked about this I was told that it was because of an upgrade and expected use of gas, and it would be waved in both instances if I brought the car back full. When I returned the car they said this was the extra day charge. When I complained the manger was hostile and rude. When I called customer service and said I felt I had been intentionally deceived I was told "we are in the business of making money". They will never get any more of mine.

Ripped off at the Frankfurt Airport in Germany when we had to return the car before staff was there. We later recieved a 350 EURO charge for a tiny mark on the wheel. The picture we recieved from them was super blown up and impossible to tell if it was really the car we had driven. I doubt it. We had no incidents. We keep asking for the repair bill so our insurance can reimburse us and have been told that the repair is too minor and AVIS doesn't always repair minor damages. WHAT A SCAM!!! Their probably pulling this on the next sucker. Bring a magnifying glass and inspect the wheels. We travel often and will never again rent from these crooks.

After I got in to an accident, I went to enterprise and got a compact car paid by the insurance company. I was unhappy and shopped for a full size car for $28/day. I contacted the Avis on 147 Westney Road in Ajax, Ontario. Then this guy talked to my insurance and figured he could charge $35/day. He went ahead and charged the maximum $35 which is not what he agreed to earlier. Finally when I returned the car 2 weeks later the insurance did not agree to pay for the day I switched the cars. This guy had agreed that he would not charge me this day. How can you have a car paid for and then get another one you have to pay for. I did not agree to the extra day that he charged me and I told him he was a crook. He went on and started insulting me, and challenging me to a fight. I did not back down and asked him to come outside. He further went ahead and called me all sorts of name. I really didn't like how I was deliberately abused the last time I rented from Avis. I don't believe that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas in this case. I rented a car through priceline (the name your price option at priceline.com) for one day. It came to approximately $34, which was accepted by Avis and was prepaid at the time in full. I brought the car back within the time frame, full of gas, and should have been charged $0 like I have been many times in the past using priceline. Instead Avis charged me an additional $79.00. When I told the check in man at the car that this was wrong after he gave me the receipt showing $79, he said get in line at the counter if you want to dispute it. I was running close on my flight, which in retrospect is what I believe they were counting on to steal the $79. When I got to the counter, they told me, incredibly, that because I brought the car in before 24 hours, even though my contract said that had to be turned in before that date and... Read more

Is it Avis Policy that I need a flashlight and a magnifying glass when I rent a car? An unfriendly staff member on the front desk at Munich airport gave me the key to a Ford Focus, this car wasn´t in Avis garage, I went back to the front desk, this time I got a key to a Citroen Xsara, which was nowhere to be found. Back again, this time I got a key to a Citroen Picasso, but I got no contract or a document recording any previous damages. The car was parked in a dark corner far away from the rest of the cars. I did a quick inspection of the car since I was an hour behind schedule due to all the hassle. I drove directly to my destination where I parked in the hotel garage. I didn’t use the car during the rest of my holiday week except when driving back to the Avis office. When returning the car a zealous inspector finds two damages. The first small damage was in the front windscreen and is so small that I couldn’t see it myself. The second damage was on the sharp edge back on the bon... Read more

Rented a car from Avis For A week Started to Florida With three other women and maintenance light comes on half way there and 15% oil life light came on... So we called and they told us it had to be maintenance so when we got to Florida the next morning took the car to trade it in for a new car and we walked across the lot got the car it was smaller than we rented and we started it and it was on empty.. drove back to front doors and they were locked and the guy that helped us had left within the few seconds it took so called the Corporate office and they tried calling them and said they would knock off money because we had such a problem and when we returned the car after the week the card was charged 100.00 more than it was supposed to so ya there will never get business from us again and they are the biggest rip off I have ever meet and they don not do what they say the will... SO BEWARE OF AVIS DON'T RENT FROM THEM.....

location: Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport, Florida. My overall experience with this Avis car rental in Fort Lauderdale airport isn't so bad if it wasn't for the attitude of the customer service at the front desk. We waited in a line of less than 6 people for about an hour. When we got to the desk, I ask if I could get our car 1 hr earlier without being charged an extra day rental since we've been in the line for an hour. He relaxedly said "you've been in the line for an hour...?" with a cynical smirk then shrugged his shoulder and say whatever you want. I repeated my question again to make sure he understood my intention. He started looking at the computer and said the charges would be $149 if we brought it back late. I tried to clarify if it was on top of my prepaid online reservation which was only $75+tax or if it was an extra day rental. He didn't bother to explain why it was that much nor did he try to explain if it was an extra day. I kept on repeating my questions in differe... Read more

I will never rent with Avis again. When booking a reservation the confirmation clearly stated "coupon discounts are NOT included in the estimated total, but will be calculated and applied at the time of rental." At the time of rental I was told the discount was already applied and no further discount was to be applied. I would never have rented at the rate I was given as an estimate and although they admitted the Avis confirmation email did state an additional discount would be calculated at time of rental there was nothing they could do about it. I have never experienced this with another car rental agency. Terrible customer service at the rental desk and terrible customer service at the 800 number when I called to inquire further. Clearly the customer is not a priority. Lesson learned...I will never give Avis my business again.

Avis -- avoid at all costs! I rented a car from them last week, got a quote for 320 dollars total for 5 days. When I returned the car, they gave me a bill for 600 dollars, showing lots of surprise charges, fees and mileage charges, none of which was disclosed to me at check in. No amount of complaining helped -- they adamantly refused to remove the charges. I canceled my "Preferred" account, filed a dispute with my credit card, and will never use AVIS again. I don't know where they find the people who work for them, but to put it mildly, they are very rude and incompetent. Last month when I rented from them, there was a woman in line in front of me, going ballistic over her bill and demanding to remove extra charges and fees. It took her almost an hour and everyone had to wait in line. "We try harder?" Give me a break! I would avoid AVIS at all costs.

AVIS does not need business and customers.... I had done car rental booking and I also received a booking confirmation. Through out my communication with AVIS, I was never informed nor precaution was taken from AVIS side to confirm before issue of the offer letter that if the offer is as per terms n conditions of the AVIS policy/local laws. I was never communicated that the mode of payment will only be credit card and that too only driver’s credit card is acceptable for payment. When me and my friend along with our family and children, reached AVIS to get the car, the attendant outrightly refused to issue a vehicle because although I was having international driving license was not having any credit card. My friend who was with me has a credit card and was willing to do payment authorisation on his credit card, but the branch people were not comfortable with this arrangement. I gave them sufficient proof that I am existing customer of AVIS and have already rented a car from AVIS ... Read more

I rate Avis NO STARS!!! I couldn't post this review without one star. I rented this summer from Avis in England. They scammed me! They gave us one price when we were in the U.S. We offered to pay in advance and they explained that is was not necessary. We flew all night to get to England. They took us in a bus about ten minutes from the airport and convinced us to sign a contract for another price explaining that we could work it out later. There is no working it out later! I called customer service and they verified I was overcharged but they said that they could not reimburse us the difference because it was Avis international. I also called my credit card company repeatedly and Avis fought our reimbursement. We were overchaged an additional 50% on top of the price we were supposed to pay. I will never ever rent from this company again. They are not trustworthy!

1 stars I will not rent from AVIS again. While on personal travel I rented and pre-paid for an AVIS sub-compact car. When I arrived at my destination, the rental agent told me that I was renting a compact car. Being tired, I didn't check that I was getting the car that I had paid for. When I returned the car, the AVIS rental agent charged me extra for the compact car. I e-mailed AVIS customer relations about the extra charge and the ambush rental. Their stance is that I signed the contract and I owed them the money. Dawn Woolsey

Avis Germany (Frankfurt) is scamming US renters at the price of $660 for a small cratch (under 1 inch) by just charging it to your credit card and producing phony estimates. Stay clear of them!!

Because of a mistake the agent on the phone made--they took my reservation, I was told that they'd take my debit card, but they wouldn't--I ended up driving 2.5 hours to the PWM Avis location only to be turned away. Customer service was awful. Everybody admitted that I had a problem, nobody was willing/able to help. The manager at the stand said there was nothing she could do. The person at the other end of their customer help line told me "there was nothing anybody in the whole company could do. I could transfer you to the CEO right now and he couldn't help you." I finally called back and got a sympathetic customer service guy, and the best he could do was tell me that somebody who had the power to help me would be getting back to me within 24 hours. So my vacation is ruined because of a mistake *they* made. I drove 5 hours for nothing, I don't have the van I was planning on, and I apparently have no recourse. None of the people I talked to had the ability/willingness to help ... Read more

Extremely poor customer service!!! I recently made and confirmed a reservation using my entertainment book coupon. When I arrived at the pick-up location after walking .75 miles, I was informed that I could not rent a car due to a credit issue. Although I had efficient funds in my bank account for which I was using my debit card they refused to rent a car for me. At no point prior to pick-up was I notified that the rental would be contingent on a credit check. Although inconvenient, the situation actually worked to my advantage because I went across the street and rented a car from Budget rental for less money.
