Been there, done that. A couple of times or more. Nothing to be happy about, but scared isn't going to help you.

I have had very little money at times, but I thank God He has always seen me through.

I don't think I have ever been poor. I was always able to work and had brains enough or ambition enough to get a good job or at least a starting job to work my way up. Now I have been broke lots of times, but being poor and being broke are two different things.

Don't you just love society? Everyone is nearly part of the lower class now-a-days. I am.

I've personally gone through several periods of extreme poverty early on due mostly to a combination of bad luck and lack of responsibility/inititive. While they were tough, they weren't the hardest things I've ever experienced, not by a long shot. Though I am hesitant to call them "character building," I did learn from them so in a sense they were at least constructive. What's more, I've noticed that having a rich artistic or emotional life most certainly insulates you from much of the financial sting such difficulties undertake. Regardless, it's always good to know that I can survive on peanut butter and several boxes of crackers each month if necessary...ahh, those were the days!

I'm sure there are a lot of people including myself who would say that they are not afraid of being poor. But the fear of being poor is one of those subtitle fears that you are not aware of. A person may not think they are afraid of being poor, but what are they like at giving? Are they generous givers? If you hate the idea of giving or give really sparingly, maybe there is a chance that the person is a lot more afraid of going poor then they think. That's why some people find it so hard to give. It is not purely selfishness, it is more of a fear of going broke. If you can give generously, then you can say with confidence that you are not afraid of being poor. Now this isn't like one of those evangelist things where the message is to give your last cent. Not at all, but it is just an observation, that people who are stingy in giving, are often the ones who fear poverty a lot more then they realise. Me personally, although I am not the perfect giver although I am growing, I st... Read more

Not really. I'd just make my way down to San Diego and hang out on the beach all day.

It's one thing to be poor or broke when you are single and have only yourself to worry about. It's quite a different story when you throw kids in the mix.

If your are middle class you most certainly fear this. I can say In my life time that I have been a month away from being on the street more than once.

Been there and it doesn't scare me at all. I found out a long time ago that money by itself doesn't make me happy. I'd probably head a little farther south than Minkey down to Mexico and live on 5 peso tacos and 10 peso beer.

I'd be horrified of this happening simply because the idea of me having to start all over in life to just to survive is quite upsetting. Most people, including myself-I suppose, can rebound from a drop in thier standard of living but that can only happen through hard work, making sacrifices and cutting corners...

Maybe, maybe not! If I was poor or broke, I'll just rely on my friends from the city or at the ghetto. New Yorkers are real generous to the downtrodden.

Being broke is something I am not afraid because you can always get money at a latter point in time, it's beign broke and having nowhere to live that I am afraid of.
