Properly made, a reuben is worthy of five stars. The problem is that even though it's a simple sandwich to make, it seems like places love to screw it up. Some places will make it on whole wheat instead of rye, and try to pass it off as a reuben. I ordered a reuben one place and they didn't grill it. I've even seen such abominations as substituting cole slaw for the sauerkraut.

Katz's Deli makes a mean Reuben sandwich! I highly suggest it if their is one in your area.

The Reuben is a fantastic, underrated sandwich. That being said, nothing tastes worse than a Reuben with low grade meat.

mmmm...reuben. Perhaps the finest sandwich ever conceived.

My version of the Reuben: [pastrami rather than corned beef]
1. Pastrami sauteed in 1 tbsp olive oil with a Mise en Place of chopped garlic, shallot, celery and parsley and freshly ground black pepper.
2. Remove pastrami to warming plate. Add a shot of Sherry to the pan along with the Mice en Place and then strain into a small ramekin. Remove pan solids and add saurkraut to warm.
2. Swiss and Muenster cheese melted on freshly made french bread under the broiler.
3. Remove toasted french bread with cheeses and top with saurkraut, and warmed pastrami. Drizzle a small amount of the sauce from the ramekin over the pastrami.
4. Notice there is NO dressing on this sandwich!!!
5. EAT!!!! :)))

Depends on where i get it. Some restaurants make better Reubens than others. for me. the meat should be tender not tough. I liked the mile high one they used to have at Bill Knapps. can be a very good sandwhich if put together well enough.

Sorry, but this is one sandwich I can't stand. I am not much into swiss cheese, or sauerkraut and also the catalina dressing is not good. I have to be in a mood to even put that on my salad, let alone a sandwich.

A good sandwich, that I'll order from time to time.

Oddly enough, the first time i ever had this sandwich was when I was in the military. Very New York, I like the suaerkraut and the Russian dressing.
