Has had a string of bad luck of late in BCS games. Not sure why. Good personality and seems down to earth. Been over all very succesful.

Bob Stoops has the least class of all coaches. His arrogance has cost him dearly in big games. The fact that he tried to score a touchdown, instead of kicking a field goal, last year against Florida is proof of that. His team also depends on running up the score because the defense gets tired and won't last the duration of the game.

Outcoached again by Florida. Best runnerup coach ever was. Quit spending time at the pig roasts & think through a game.

Ouch, Bob! I'm trying very hard not to be critical at this point, but I'm starting to wonder why he can't seem to win any bowl games as of late. The sad thing is that we Sooner fans had our expectations built up too high too quickly when he won the title in his second year. We expected the Sooners to rule the world for the next 100 years and demanded nothing short of perfection. What we have gotten is a hard dose of reality on a wide screen TV. Bob has built his team to win the Big 12, a slow, lumbering modestly talented conference. Unfortunately, that won't pass muster when facing top 10 teams from other conferences like the highly talented SEC, the star-studded Pac-10, and the built for speed Big East. Throw in a competitive Big-10 and ACC and the Sooners will look uphill all the way. Bob needs to inject speed in all areas of this team. West Virginia proved it works.

Maybe I'm the only one who sees the coincidence but why has O.U.'s defense not performed well in big games since Mike Stoops left to take the Arizona job ? Brent Venables doesn't seem to be able to either recruit the right talent or get as much out of the players as Mike did. 2006 was another example of a mediocre schedule fooling people into thinking the O.U. defense was very good but their schedule was weaker than in past years as the Big 12 is down right now. I think they need to find a defense coordinator who can bring the same fire and attitude that Mike did and return O.U. to a team that can win the big one. That's how they won it all in 2000, with defense. Look at their record in non-conference games and how many points they gave up (the bad call aside, they should have still beaten Oregon if their defense could stop anyone).

First, let's set aside the issue of strength of schedule. If you look at Sagarin's computer rankings in usatoday (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt05.htm) then you will see that Oklahoma had the toughest schedule of any team in 2005. Do I think that the computers are 100% accurate? Of course not. But the #1 ranking in strength of schedule should take this issue off of the table. If anybody claims that Oklahoma has a soft schedule, then that person does not have credibility. I'm a big OU fan, but I can't give Stoops a five-star rating because 1) he seems to have lost his touch in big games recently because 2) his teams don't have enough mental toughness. They get punched in the nose, they fall behind, and they panic. If he can restore the program's mental toughness, then this guy is one of the greatest college coaches of all time. Too bad for Oklahoma, because if he does restore the mental toughness then he'll go pro.

Stoops had a down year at Oklahoma, but he was able to win a big bowl game against Oregon. I expect him to bounce back and be a BCS contender again, especially after Vince Young leaves Texas.

He has more class than than most other head coaches and expectes the same of his players. I respect that.

Whether you like him or hate him, which in that case I like him, he is without a doubt the best coach in college football right now. He turned aroung the prgram, won a title over Florida St., has won the Big 12 championship almost every year there, has pounded Texas ever year but this one, and been to 3 national title games. He may have lost 2 out of 3, but even legendary coaches like JoePa, have not accomplished what he has. OU had a bad start of the season, and coach Stoops quickly turned it around. Which they are now likely headed to a good bowl game. Only competition to him as of the past decade would be Pete Carroll or recently departed Nick Saban. Mack Brown has been dominated by this man and OU, with recruit from TX, in which the Longhorns still are ranked one of the best recruiting teams year in and year out, and OU as well, but OU dominates them. UT better enjoy this years victory, b/c it won't be long.

Not only has Stoops won a NC, 3 big 12 Championships, beaten Texas five Straight, has only lost two games at home, he has the best winning % since 2000.That's why he is the best coach in the nation. He made the 1999 team into stars and teh next year and that's what he does every year. He also takes in 2.3 million a year (the most of any coach). And o yeah...Texas better not get used to winning against OU...a win will only come for them about 1 out of six years.

Stoops is one of the top 7 or 8 coaches right now. Let's see him maintain this level for say, 10 years. Data shows he is quickly getting away from the frontrunners. First, the USC guy kicking Stoops in the crotch- USC finished in AP top 5 just 3 times in the last 25 years before this run started. With surfer boy Matt and other key players off to the NFL this year & Norm Chow and 3 other coaches off to the NFL last year, I'd say your 15 minutes is over. To the guy that asked how long Bowden took to win a NC, Bowden came to an almost winless program and built them into a super power on his own. What hurdles has Stoops had to get to the NC game? Look at Bowden having to battle the Canes and UF who have the 2nd and 3rd most AP top 5 finishes (Canes 11, UF 7) in the last 25 years. Bowden is #1 by the way, with 14 AP top 5 finishes IN A ROW. And 2 guys (jimmiej for one) seem to think Stoops is the first guy to play in 3 NC games in a row- Bowden played in the 98,99 & 2000 NC games with the 99 season being the first ever to go wire to wire #1 in AP poll. That's 3 in a row amigo, and with arguably tougher guys to beat (and the stinger is Stoops was defensive coordinator at UF in that run) just to get to the game. Stoops needs to get a solid QB quick, and figure out how to get those great players on his team to play up to their potential.

From the reviews I have read I imagine those that voted one or two stars only wish Bob Stoops coached their teams.

Great coach. Lots of piling on going on by people who love to see the mighty fall. I guess people truly do hate greatness. Look at his overall record vs other great college coaches. His weakness is his offense. He needs a little less loyalty to offensive coordinators. Chuck Long really is offensive. No coach at Stoops' level can be great at the whole game. A new offense will put OU back on top. It is a rebuilding year, so all of you vituperative posters just stand by. Come back next year and read what you wrote.

Bob Stoops has done a great job with the Sooners. He brought the Sooners from #13 to National champions in the 2000 season. I think Barry Switzer would be proud. UPDATE: The 2005 season for the Sooners is going to be a rough one. They lost 9 of their 11 starters to the draft, and now the Sooners have alot of young'ens. With Stoops coaching, Oklahoma should return to the Top 25 by next season. (I would say this season but that's pushing it.)

My roomate is an Okie boy, so I am not allowed to talk trash about Stoops, but I do consider him to be one of the most solid coaches out there, so I guess he will be cool with my opinion. UPDATE: An off year is an off year, but can you honestly say a coach is the root of it? Nah. Cycles are part of college football, and OU is caught in a rebuilder right now. If they continue to struggle next year there will be something to discuss.

Bob Stoops is a tool. Even when he was getting his butt handed to him by LSU two years ago, he acted like a baby at half-time when a reporter refered to LSUs defense as the #1 defense. (LSUs was the #1 defense in terms of points allowed per game, OU was the #1 defense in yards allowed per game) He snapped at the poor reporter about how his team had the #1 defense and didn't even address her question, even though I'm pretty sure not allowing points is a little more important than not allowing yards... Also, OU doesn't exactly have the toughest schedule these days. The only anually good team they play is Texas ... then they just run up the score on all the bad teams to make themselves look better. If OU played in the SEC or Big 10 they would have had 2-3 regular season losses the past two seasons. Instead, snuck into national championship games that they didn't deserve to go to. It should have been LSU vs USC, and then USC vs Auburn. End of story. Oklahoma went and got embarassed both years. I bet Bob Stoops went home and beat his wife and daughters after this past year's national championship game. I'm glad to see a team like TCU stand up to OU and not take their shit anymore. Go Horned Frogs ... or whatever they are.

When Bob inherited OU football team he had average players and turned there team into a powerhouse of old. They demolished anyteam in their path. But now especially after this past season you can tell that OU is losing its touch. That showe the most after USC beat them like a yard dog in the NC game. Watch for OU to go 8-3 this season.

Everyone on here who is undermining Stoops' character and obvious abilities at handling his profession are either from schools we have defeated or are simply pissed off at their coaching arrangements wherever their pissant school lies. Look people...when he took over there WAS NOT a ton of four and five star talent here. Derrick Strait and Quentin Griffin, as well as the REAL ROY WILLIAMS, were all three stars and below. Two of which were out of Texas and ignored by UT. Bob took 'em, and won it all. Heupel was a no name JUCO QB who was prospected by Bob and his staff. He goes and almost wins the Heisman. That year was all Bobs and we were UNDISPUTED champs. Bob has taken his teams since and won the Big XII three times. Whatever you have to say about the strength of the conference (no doubt SEC fans), it is a major conference with a ton of good teams perenially that should garner respect for its high level of all around play. Bob is a great person, doing a TON for his community and a good example of this is his involvement of a dying boy with the program. This kid loved OU more than anything, and when Bob found out he made not only room for him in his life, but made a HUGE spot. When he died just recently, not only did Bob attend the funeral, but numerous player were pallbearers at his funeral because they had become close with the boy when he visitied them at the facilities. This all stems from Bob's generous and kind heart, which is projected onto his players and taken up by their actions. When it comes to game time, the same goes for his toughness, preparedness, and confidence. Ask any Texas football player (which I have gotten to do to a few I know) why OU has won five straight. As Chris Simms said, Our coach is afraid of your coach. Need any more info? I can count the number of programs on one hand that would not drop whoever they had as a coach in a heartbeat to take Stoops, and even those programs would consider it. Is that not an indication of his stature in collegiate football? All of the people who are doggin him for losing the big game, where were your teams? You have to be there to win it, and he handled himself fine. No one likes to lose. Ask hillbilly Bill Callahan, who can barely keep from dropping numerous F bombs just because of some flying fruit. How did this guy ever coach the Raiders, with all of their nutt ball fans? As far as I know, Bob has never cursed in front of the media concerning someone elses fan base. No doubt Bob Stoops Turned OU around after the Schnellenberger /Blake era.In one season yet.He loves his players,coaches and OU.I hope he stays a long long time.

Oklahoma has had a top 10 strength of schedule almost every year under Bob Stoops. Bob Stoops record against ranked opponents is over 80%. OU has played in 3 National Championship games in the last 5 years and won 1. Name another active coach that can say that. Pete Carrol comes close if you count AP and BCS, but that's it. To say that USC has less talent than OU is absolutely rediculous. USC has had higher ranked recruiting classes the last 3 or 4 years, including #1 classes the last 2 years. To say that Stoops won the 2000 NC with John Blake's players is ludicrous. 12 of the 22 starters on that team were redshirt freshmen, true freshmen or JUCO players recruited in 1999 or later. 7 other players were playing different positions than under Blake. Bob Stoops is one of the best coaches in college football today.

He's been at Oklahoma 6 years and played for 3 national championships, winning one. No other coach in America today can match that record. All those making disparaging comments would give an arm and a leg to have him coaching their team.

Congrats on the Big 12 Title last year, that's about all you have to be proud of. But as far as your coaching style is concerned. It all goes down the drain come post-season play.

A good coach brings the best out of his players... a bad coach always loses the big one. Stoops still hasn't won with his own players. He won with players who were recruited by the former OU coach, who now just so happens to be coaching at NU.

Good coach, but after the Orange Bowl debacle, I can't help the feeling that he was/is overrated. He certainly isn't a big game coach, and appears to rely too much on talent alone, and not enough on actual game planning. I just can't help but think back to how his players just up and quit on him in the Orange Bowl. Not a sign of good coaching.

Coach Stoops is a great recruiter and good coach but still has large rosters 170 Players to hide players, plays a very light schedule against far too few ranked teams, and has very low graduation rates. Good but not Great yet!

Anyone who gives Stoops anything under a 4 or 5 star rating is just a fan of a team he's beaten (probably repeatedly). He's a great coach & has pulled the Oklahoma program back into the national spotlight.
