I think most acting back in the days before Monroe hit the screen was cheesy and un convincing. Monroe's acting certainly wasn't a departure from that.

If one is to honestly rate an 'actress' on ability then we must be far more objective and honest. . . . . .the only serious acting this woman ever did was to pretend she didn't have addiction problems. Sure, she was a hot piece of ass and a cultural icon. . .she's probably a nice person with a great heart. . .but as an 'actress' we have to be a little more professional here, folks. . .on her best day (best day) she was mediocre in this regard. . .

She was S E X Y , and a hell of a lot better of an actress than she gets credit for.

Marilyn Monroe was everyone's favorite. She was a very sensitive person and came from a sad background. She was good looking and had quite a comedic presence.

Marilyn Monroe in my estimation was the most beautiful and prettiest woman who ever lived. With her voluptuous body she easily got the reputation of being the sexiest of them all. She had all the physical features all women wanted for themselves and all men admire; doll like baby face, cute eyes and nose, sensuous lips, perfect white teeth, blonde hair, white flawless skin, hourglass figure, big breasts, small waist, wide hips, big booty and sexy legs. She's not so tall and not so small in height. She had a unique voice (childlike but very sensual). A girl trapped in a woman's body. She looks and sounds good. That explains her physical and sex appeal. She was also very talented. She was a good singer and dancer. She had a very seductive and sweet voice. Just watch and hear her sing "Kiss." She could act and in fact was a great comedian. During interviews she was always charming and gave the strong impression that she was sweet, kind, loving, forgiving and very accepting in pri... Marilyn's place in cinematic history is secondary to her place in cultural history. Her acting talent may not have been Academy Award material, although it was not bad at all, and her films may not be the most legendary productions, but she had an impact on American society like no other star before or since.  She is one of the few true icons of cinema, her name is synonymous with the term"Sex Symbol".  Only Elvis, The Beatles, Sinatra, and James Dean can share in the most rare heights of stardom that this lady reached.

Her movies were enjoyable and in my opinion she was a good actress. It's easy to see why she became such a legend. However, I always felt sad for her about her emotional problems which seemed to ruin her life.

Marilyn Manroe is a legend. She had vulnaribility and sex appeal that mixed together so well. She was a ultimately feminine woman: curvacious, emotional, gentle, and enticing. She hasn't been in many movies because of her such an early demise, but at the same time, within such a short period of time, she captivated and inprisoned us all with her unpretentous mannerism and sexy features. Her voice is incomparable and her persona is unforgettable.

This woman was pure magic. She practically glowed on film. The voice, the sex appeal, the vulnerability, the dumb blond persona--it all worked. The end result was an unforgettable actress. She must have been a good actress because people confused the persona with the real person. With all her problems, addictions, etc., Marilyn was not as dumb as she pretended to be. She actually worked hard to perfect that persona and ended up being victimized by it. Even though she is no longer with us, she will always be embeddied in American culture.

vastly under rated- had great range, from drama to comedy-plus beautiful- and had a vulnerability that was so delightful.

I grew up idolising the woman. She was supremely beautiful - almost no-one took a better photo than her. It's just a pity that that beautiful package caused so many people to overlook, or exploit the talent and sensativity underneath. Sometimes wish for her sake she had been born in another era where she could have been recognised for all her talents. However, a product of the times, and its not as though some of the beautiful actresses of today don't still have to battle the same boring old stereotypes. Although Marilyn is seen as a victim, I don't think she would have appreciated being remembered as a 'tragic figure', but rather for the positive enjoyment her art brought to people.

Marilyn was a great actress. She was so gorgeous that people overlooked her grat talent. She was great in serious roles and in comedies. Very few people know that she was extremely intelligent. She also was one of the most beautiful and sexy women ever. I just wish that she had the sense to stay away from JFK and Robert Kennedy instead of having affairs with them. Nonetheless, she is an all-time great actress.

If I could build a time machine, I would go back to the 50's and bang the crazy out of this chick!! One good thing you can say about her though, at least she died before she lost all of her looks, a la Elizabeth Taylor. Seriously, Marilyn was one sexy broad.

Undoubtably one of the most beautiful women to ever be on the big screen. Personally one of my favorite actresses. All her movies are pretty good, never amazing however because cutesey comedy movies worked better for her. I really liked her because even though she obviously had a tough life off the camera she always got the job done and did the best she could in the end. I didn't give her a "great" rating because i think she didn;t really reach her full potential as an actress. She was talented enough to be in meaningful films that require serious acting, but she was just a sex symbol with the common purpose of making money with her movies. I gave her the "good" rating because she worked well with what she had.

I believe that the key to Marilyn is that she is unique. There is no one like her and she can't be imitated. After forty years, she is as great an icon as she ever was. Some of her performances were outstanding in spite of her personal problems.

I have always been a big fan of the 50s era but Marilyn is one part of the 50s I never got that excited about. I like "Some Like It Hot" and "The Seven Year Itch" just because they are well made movies - but not primarily because of her. She was sort of a sex symbol but I never necessarily saw the point of a sex symbol. I preferred the every-day type of girls in movies. But Marilyn was interesting and okay.

If sex is a drug, then Marilyn is selling it, and it ain't legal. She was a brunette, then became a blonde. She was just another girl, then became a sex goddess. She was chubby, then became the queen of curves. She was loved, then nobody wanted to love her for real. She was alive, then she was dead. Story of a girl. STOP

She was, still is, and will always be the screen goddess of all time. Marilyn was more than a pretty face but unfortunately, the pretty face was the only thing many people wanted to see. They did not see, or perhaps did not want to see all the pain and troubles this woman had to endure throughout her life. It's a pity no one saw that and tried to help her before it was too late. It's also a shame that she did not live long enough to become a serious actress, which is what she wanted, because in the Misfits she gave one of her most brilliant performances ever. The motion picture business has not been the same and will never be the same without this woman. Today we have cheap imitations and wannabe's but they are no competition to Marilyn. No other actress has that Marilyn quality. Which is not such a bad thing because I sure as hell would not like to see Marilyn replaced by disposable talent. It's a shame that she is not with us and can't see how much the world still loves her. L... Read more
