Wayne is a class by himself. Never mind that he never was in the military but he played so many military roles. He brought a lot of conviction to his acting, he passionately believed in this country and what it stood for, and he wasn't afraid to voice his convictions when plenty of other people in liberal-leaning Hollywood felt that discretion was the better part of valor. But, that's politics and character, and the subject is acting in action films. It's tough, if not impossible, to find anyone else who turned in so many consistently good performances (except for what was the name of the movie - "The Mongols", I think - in which he played a totally dopey Genghis Khan, and which he wasn't particularly proud of). There will never be anyone else like him on the screen.

John Wayne found role of a lifetime, as John Wayne, and nobody did it better. As far as I'm concerned the Duke is King.

In westerns, all but unapproachable. Only Eastwood is close.

He is and always be in my top 3. The Duke was all things that the American man should be. Tough, honest, honorable and so much more. Ofcourse nowadays America does not tolerate real men like him. They are call sexists and a whole lot of other crap. He lived in a much better era where men were men and women were women. He is probably glad he died before the pussification of men in America.
