My boyfriend bought my engagement ring at Friedman's and paid for 1/2 and put the other half on credit. He would go in person to the store once a month to make payments. As it happened, we had a friend who was hired by that Friedman's location as a part time holiday assistant. He hated it. He told my boyfriend that according to store gossip, the heads of the company were laundering money and that it was very clear, even though he had only been with the company a few weeks, that Friedman's was INCREDIBLY badly managed and was about to close. Sure enough, when V. (now my husband) went to make his 3rd or 4th payment for the ring the store had closed. A few weeks later we got a letter in the mail saying that the store was closed permanently and that our payments needed to be mailed to Savannah, Ga. or brought to this shady office park in the worst part of the town where we live. I decided that mailing the payments would be safer. The letter DID NOT include our account number or the amount ... Read more

Who are you happytobelivin, Eric's mom? Apparently you aren't a former Friedmans employee that had to actually put up with the shit that was dished out. Look at what happend to Service Merchandise. I guess he learned his "expertise in handling companies through financial trouble" from the same people that helped run Service Merchandise in the ground. Oh wait a minute they are all the same people! And its a really great thing he did there he didnt want to work for them any longer since they werent going to hand out severence packages. Well he sure didnt care to make his millions while employees and managers busted there asses to get paid next to nothing with no possible raise no matter how great there sales were because they were on a "pay freeze" while you would receive signage on top of signage that wasnt cheap that were the same damn signs that you got 2 days ago. They were wasteful! Apparently you should get your facts staight, Better yet just read all the other reviews from the peo... Read more

In response to stressedmanager5835, you don't know what you are talking about. Friedmans was already in trouble when Mr Kovats was hired. His expertise is handling companies through financial trouble. Sam Cusano didn't steal any money, however he did leave while it was still possible for him to get his severance package. Mr Kovats realized that the people who were making the decisions were not going to honor severance packages for any of their employees. And since he is NOT unscrupulous, he didn't want to work for them any longer. He quit without getting ANY of the money that was owed to him. So you should get your facts straight before you talk. Since you obviously talk out of your rear, I have a hard time believing you overheard some racially motivated reason for moving the company in an elevator!

My fiance and I bought an engagement ring back in december and didn't have problems with them until 4 weeks ago. The stone was loose and there was a chip in the stone. They told me I would have to send it off myself which i wasn't going to because we purchased insurance on it. We went back to the store and the manager told us they could send off repairs but they needed the original receipt. I didn't trust that so i picked the ring up. I took it to another jeweler and he told me it was man made (moyzanite) anyway, i was told this by three other people as well. I told friedmans and i was called a liar. I understand now why the stores are closing! There is still a friedman's store in sc but they won't take it back because they need to get rid of inventory. I'm not even asking for the money back! I just want them to take the ring back keep the payments that have already made wipe the bill clean. Our bill is also higher than normal and they are not putting our payment on there like they sho... I worked for years for Friedman's and always ran a very organized, always increasing in sales and most profitable store in the district. I was terminated because my District Manager was intiminated that I knew more about the business than he did. His name is Don Holley and he is very unethical. He on a couple of occassions sent out every employees pay to everyone in his district "by Mistake". Friedman's home office refused to take action. He has been reguraly accused of abusive behavior and trys to intimidate female employees. He is a slob and dresses like an unemployed used car salesman. He is so unprofessional he actually had his managers write their own reviews and submit them as his own. He reguraly asks for suggestions so he can submitt them to his boss for recognition. He has on many occassions been in direct violation of HIPPA and of course home office lets it go.

worked for this company for some time if you r thinking of purchasing something from them DONT!! this company filed bankruptcy in 2005 due to poor upper level management and people like sam cusano and eric kovats squandering millions from the company and takin more and more from the store managers and employees company recently moved from georgia to texas for restructuring due to the bankruptcy but was overheard in an elevator at a company meeting that it was due to most of the employees being black now the compnay has moved and as of jan 22 2008 looks like the company is fileing bankruptcy again against its vendors whom it owes over 17.3 million according to jewelers circular keystone , ceo sam cusano walked out after two years and him getting his millions he stole from the company wonder what else the district managers , regional vice presidents and upper level management could take from the managers and employees but buying from this company i wouldnt plan on it unless your just loo... My husband brought 3 necklaces from them for me @ Christmas, I asked him to return 2 as I can only wear 1 necklace at a time & being a mother of 2 I rarely have time to change jewelry daily. The 1 necklace I kept & started to wear almost daily made my neck break out. Well, I am have very sensitive skin & had recently changed facial cleansers, so I continued to wear the necklace & discontinued the cleanser, still had a rash. So I thought it was my shampoo & changed that, but last night my neck itched so much it was keeping me awake - imagine how upset I was to take off the necklace at like 3AM on Jan 27th after wearing it since Christmas & started to feel relief from the itching almost instantly. I really pissed they tried to pass this off as real gold (which is all I can wear), now my husband will have to return the 3rd necklace! Some Christmas Friedman gave me!

This store is nothing but a joke. My husband and I purchased rings from them. It was junk! The gold rubbed off, the repairs were all wrong, and they lost my rings!!!! They couldn't give me my money back, "Beacuse the matter had to be researched." I also bought a chain before all this happened and I purchased the insurance for protection. The chain broke and I lost the diamond pendant off of it. They won't replace it or give me my money back because the insurance doesn't cover TOTAl loss or theft!!! We will never buy from them again. When I hear of someone thinking about going there, they will definately get an earful before buying.

Our Friedmans has been closed - in San Angelo Texas. We purchased our wedding set through them, as well as my husbands wedding set. I absolutely LOVE my set. I am aware that the quality may not be the best, but in appearance, it was exactly what we both wanted. We couldn't afford to purchase our set from other jewelery stores. While we are happy with the set, we HATED the service. I went in with $400 to purchase a watch for my husband. No one waited on me. I asked for a manager. When they came over - I showed him my $400 and told him that I was taking that money across to Zales, where he could WATCH me give them the money that I was going to give Friedmans to purchase my husbands watch. I said that I was a customer who had spent OVER $4000 with them - was never late with payments and had planned on giving them my money, but due to the horrible customer service, I was taking my business elsewhere.

This is my experience with Friedmans: First of all the customer service sucks and the people are very unprofessional. The quality of the jewerly is terrible. The Walker Branch in LA especially is the worse. The charge when you pay your bill is high and stupid. I mean it doesnt take a rocket scientist to push buttons on a computer!!!You guys should go out of business and realize what junk you guys try and sell to the public. You guys should take all theses complaints and realize what the comapny is not doing and try and make it better. What a shame to run a business like that!!! We all should get together and file a class action law suit against Friedmans for misrepresenting the quality of their merchandise. Have a great day. Laura, LA

My husband bought my engagement ring in Fayeteville, NC while on vacation at Friedman's and it was perfect, so I thought. We were led to believe that my ring was of good quality, but after having it for a few months a prong broke. I now back in Louisiana finally found a Friedmans store to return it too to be fixed. I told the sales lady what was wrong and that it also looked as if one of my stones were cracked. See looked at my ring and said she could not see anything wrong, but said the person fixing my ring would look at my ring and whatever they found wrong they would fix. Yeah right! Once I got my ring back I still thought my stone looked funny. I got several opinions and finally brought my ring to someone who didn't work for Friedmans and he basically told me my ring was junk! A ring my hubby paid $2,000 dollars for. I'm giving them one last chance to fix the problem and if my ring is not in perfect condition, I will get a lawyer. I have had several problems with friedman's. I open an preferred credit account with them the manager asked me would I like to add an insurance protection plan @ the time I agreed. When I left and my husband and I started talking about the insur.I changed my mind now let me tell you the ring was only $359.00 so I called the manager and asked was it to late for me to take the charge off my account she said no.I then asked her do I need to come in tonight she said no I will take care of it. Remember I just open this account so I don't have my card yet.Now the manager I like and I thought I could trust her. When I recieved my first bill the charge for the insur. was not on there. The next month bill came and I notice that my amount due for that month was higher than last month after looking @ the charges made I seen that three weeks after someone had added the insurance coverage on my account. I HATE FRIEDMAN'S... I have had only problems with them. first i purchased a white gold chain from them which broke very very soon after i bought it, got it repaired by them, looked horrible, then broke soon after. Next, i bought an engagement ring from them.. I purchased it five months ago. My fiance was wearing it when a prong holding one of the diamonds on broke. I sent it to be fixed because i purchased a warranty on the ring. it came back a month later and they did a horrible job fixing it. they sent it to another repair company and the same results occured. They gave me a new ring, which pleased me. i sent it off to be sized and now they tell me they dont know where it is, when it will be back, and doubt that i can have my money back... NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THEM AT ALL!!!! i will never again use this company again.

The employee's have been very courteous and pleasant.I go to the store in Clarksville, Ind. Also this past Christmas, I had no problem in getting something gift wrapped. And I've purchased several items from them the past 5 yrs. I give them a 5 star. Kygirlblue

I purchased my wedding ring and my husbands wedding band at Friedmans jewelry and spent over 1500.00. I also had insurance on them both. Two years later the diamonds fell out of my ring and the store replaced the diamonds but charged for the prongs to hold the diamonds in place. One month later the whole top mounting holding the six diamonds on top of the ring fell off. I took it back to the store with my proof of insurance. The sales lady told me that she wasn't sure my insurance covered it so she needed to contact her branch manager. She called back a week later and said her manager quit and she has to wait for the new branch manager to start. The store has had my ring for a month and they still can't answer any of my questions or even know if the can fix my ring. I hate I ever went to Friedmans' to purchase something that special and I would not spend another penny in that store.

My Husband purchased me my wedding set which was 14 kt white gold the rings were suppose to have been about 1 and a half carats. The ring did not sparkle after many time of having it cleaned I was very unsatisfied with the quality of the ring. Me and my husband took the ring back to the Washington Square Mall In Indianapolis Indiana when we took the rings back to the store they were saying they had to see if we could return them but we had only had the rings for 3 days we had our receipts in hand they really had nasty attitudes. I wanted to exchange the rings for something else but the sells woman named Vanessa Williams acted like she was stuck on stupid she couldn't even answer a simple question. The sales people rushed us to buy our merchandise it was like we coludn't asked them in detail about the quality or about the carat weight or everything they were only interested in getting my husbands money. My husband and I bought my wedding set from them. We thought it would be a good idea putting insurance on them for the price that we paid for it. We were told to get them appraised. Well, we paid almost 2200.00 for the set and it was worth maybe 550.00. They showed me the diamonds... it had bubbles in them. I was told that if the diamond has bubble's in them then it was man made... very cheap. I was soooo ticked off.. I went there and talked to them about it. Granted it had been about 4 months, they refused to take them back. We had a charge account with them and they refused to give us any type of credit. These people lie to get people to buy their things. Stay away from them... Wal Mart is a better place then Friedman's. Atleast Wal Mart will work with you if you are not happy with their products. The only way Friedman's are still in business is because they are ripping people off.

Do Not shop at Friedman's Jewelers! They will lie about the quality of their jewelry, not like you can not tell that the diamonds are total crap! NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy a quad head ring! They WILL fall a part, trust me I worked there for five years! They can not fix these rings either. There warranties will not cover anything, and chances are they will make you pay for the repair! There cluster diamonds, or fashion rings, will lose diamonds within a year, especially if you have them cleaned. There jewelry is cheap because most of it is made with 10k gold and is hollow. You would be much better off to go to Sterling or some other store where the quality is better. I am not a disgruntled employee but I only want people to be aware of what they are buying. DO NOT BUY THE CUSTOMER APPRECIATION RING! Not worth five dollars let alone thirty.

If Friedman's wants to make a comeback, why are they prohibiting Christmas music, decorations, and gift wrapping? This is the time of year when all jewelry stores make their money. They want to have constant reminders around the store that Christmas is coming and "yes!" she does deserve that piece of jewelry! It's hard enough to sell these very low quality items and now we got to tell the customer: "I'm sorry, we don't wrap anymore." once we finally convince them to buy. Our male customers rely on us not only to help them choose a piece of jewelry but also to wrap it. Most of them purchase on Christmas Eve and need to put it under the tree right away. I also wish that Friedman's buyers be all fired! What are they thinking when they send us these diamonds that look like dry ice? We can't even clean them for the customers because the diamonds fall out right in the ultrasonic! And last X-mas' tanzaniere set! How ugly! And the free teddy bears that came with were horrid! I was embarrassed ... Read more

GET MONEY BACK FROM FRIEDMANS!!! IF YOU PURCHASED JEWELRY ON CREDIT FROM ANY FRIEDMANS STORE YOU MAY HAVE PAID FOR INSURANCE WITHOUT BEING AWARE OF IT. JUST GO TO THE STORE YOU MADE THE PURCHASE FROM AND TELL THEM YOU WANT THE MONEY THEY CHARGED YOU RETURNED. AS THE RESULT OF A LAWSUIT FILED BY SEVERAL STATES, FRIEDMANS AGREED TO REFUND INSURANCE CHARGES TO ANYONE THAT REQUESTED IT,WETHER OR NOT YOU WERE AWARE OF THE PURCHASE. AS AN EXAMPLE,IF YOU PAID $1000 FOR A RING YOU MAY GET AS MUCH AS A $100 BACK. IT IS VERY SIMPLE. IF YOU CHARGED JEWELRY AT FRIEDMANS YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK

From a former store manager.....here's the real deal if you are thinking about working for this company..if you are offered a position run as fast as you can, don't stop. Am I an angry terminated employee? Nope....just got tired of being promised a bonus only to have it taken away without warning at the last minute by Eric Kovats, Sam Cusano or one of the other former Service Merchandise head loosers that are now running this company while they are in bankruptcy. Just a clue...check out their SEC filings... while every single manager in the company has experienced deep pay cuts in their monthly bonus and commissions, these two plus one or more stand to receive over 1.2 million in bonus bucks if they turn the company around this fall. Did the employees get screwed...certainly....all but those that work in the Savannah Ga office... If you are thinking of making a purchase be careful...very careful. First, while the prices are low (not really for what you get) the jewelry at Walmart's ... Read more

I have had TERRIBLE experience with them. My husband bought me a ring in June of last year, however, i did not get it until August(when we got married). When i did get it two months later i noticed discoloration of the base and diamonds, i sent it in to get fixed and it came back with a shank 1/3 the size of a toothpick. I was very upset. After about a month or two they swapped it out for me for a whole new ring, same style. SIX months after having that ring the shank cracked. And right now i'm still in the process of dealing with them on this issue. I spoke with a DM and we'll see what he says, but I want my money back so that i can go elsewhere.

I worked at Friedman's in Wilmington, North Carolina in the mall and it was absolutely horrible. The company treats you like crap and the merchandise is even more horrible!! I got used to having customer complaints about the quality of the jewlery, and I tried to remedy the situations but we as employees can only do so much, but a hint is to talk to a District Manager, they are always available, and all have cell phones, or demand the home office number, the reason they will not give it out is because if it goes higher than the D.M then he gets chewed out!!! So he/she will do ANYTHING to make you happy even if you have had your item for five years!! The bad thing is that they will in turn take it out on employees. The company is facing multiple lawsuits (look it up online), stocks are down and vendors are recalling their jewelry because Friedman's is not PAYING for it. The store I worked for (OUR HOME OFFICE IN GEORGIA) wrote a bad check to one of our jewelers, and it was for I think $1... Read more

I am very pleased with Friedmans Jewelers. I have horrible credit, however friedmans jewelers was willing to work with me, when know others would. The prices our lower than I have seen elsewhere. They have everything from the lower less expensive made jewelry to the higher quality items at exeptional values. Dont buy any jewelry without first visiting a Friedmans store near you. I shoped at the friedmans in midwest city oklahoma. There people were friendly, and seemed happy with where they worked. They also had young, old, and different races working there, and in a world where prejudice seems high, it felt good to know that Friedmans is there to help. Obviously they are exactly the kind of company we need more of. Thank you Friedmans

The above rating is for the billing department only. I received a bill in the mail today in the form of an advertisement card, open for anyone to see my information, and I do not like this at all. I have paid more than the minimum payment due each month, the bill today had a "Past Due Amount" as -523.80. I was really upset, called the toll free number, could not get anyone to answer my call until I chose option 3 which says "if this is a store", knowing this would be answered. I did not receive help with "your" billing problem. How do you expect a customer to know a negative is actually a positive. I receive a statement only every other month. It makes me wonder if this is a way of adding on extra finance charges if a customer fails to make a payment as a result of the billing department's neglect of sending out monthly statements. Also, after finally speaking with one of your associates at the help desk, I got the impression the stores are the only ones who are important enoug... Read more
