 | irishgit (152) 05/26/2008 | And decrease turn-out further?
I'm surprised there's no suggestion to put polling places in every Wal-Mart.

 | VirileVagabond (37) 12/27/2006 | Not a horrible idea (hence the two stars), but I can see several problems with moving Election Day to a Saturday or Sunday (or perhaps both). As noted in a prior comment, the will be objections on religious grounds. Moreover, I can easily see citizens deciding to spend their weekends doing anything but voting, resulting in lower turnout. Anyway, with the availability of absentee ballots, there is a viable alternative to moving Election Day already.

 | abichara (63) 11/01/2006 | This won't pass. For one thing, religious groups are going to oppose that elections be held on these days, raising some controversies. Jews will oppose the election being held on the Sabbath and Christians will oppose it being held on a Sunday. Luckily, voting is quite accessible in most places. You don't have to vote on the first Tuesday of November at your polling place. You can vote absentee or can go for early voting. In fact, I voted early yesterday, primarily because I'm not going to be here next week. I'll be enjoying one dollar beers on a Mexican beach during Election Day this year! Most counties alredy have polling places open where you can vote.

 | 714goodguy (1) 02/26/2006 | Sunday would be best because the fewest number of people work on Sundays.

 | GenghisTheHun (177) 06/23/2005 | Great idea. Then the turnout can really go down.

 | 37102002 (2) 01/30/2005 | yes, but i say have both days available. i.e., start voting at , say, 8 am Saturday morning till 7 pm saturday night. Then on Sunday, 9 am to 6pm. Give people every possible opportunity to vote.

 | BeatlesfanSteveo (4) 08/23/2004 | This idea would although get more votes because more people would find time to vote.
