I'm rating these items as vitamins as I'm not a big fan of taking supplements. Coming from a family of having a rich diet in fruits and vegetables, I sometimes don't even realize how much more vitamin C I have consumed from food compared to an average North American. Now I can't claim vitamin C to be solely responsible for me almost never getting sick when everyone in the company is taking turn going down, or is it just me having a genetically better immune system? Another benefit from vitamine C that I recently read online is to help losing weight. I have wondered if that also had worked magic for me but thankfully, eating lots of fruits and vegetables is the natural part of my daily life that I don't need to make any changes to continue this good trend.

About 8 months ago I began taking C daily. Not in vitamin form but these packets of 1,000 mg called Emergen-C. There are several flavors my favorite being Acai Berry. It's like drinking one of those fancy drinks in the store without the sugar. It can be hard on the stomach in high doses so Ridge got me onto this buffered C Complex powder, which I take a couple tablespoons of a day with peanut butter. Its awesome. I haven't been sick once and I don't drink caffeine anymore, and have more energy. You'll notice a quick burst, almost a high from taking a lot of C and it's not possible to overdose on it.

This item is listed as Ascorbic Acid, but not all Vitamin Cs are the same. As the previous reviewer asked, "Why not just eat an orange...?" Well, an orange or two everyday will prevent scurvy...Imagine that...a disease can be prevented with a vitamin...Are any doktors listening? But an orange, or two every day isnt nearly enough to maintain body metabolism, regardless of age. Heres an interesting side note about vitamins: When sunlight reaches our skin, it is turned into Vitamin D and unless you get 3rd degree burns from the Sun, our body has a mechanism that will create exactly as much D as it needs and no more. With few exceptions, D is the only vitamin that you can OD on. Aside from that, our bodies stopped manufacturing all other vitamins around 40,000 years ago and we are completely dependent on food sources for all the rest of them. The catch is that we would need to eat around 100 pounds of high quality foods everyday to get what we need, thus, supplements.Vitamin C is one of the... Read more

Why don't you just eat an orange, or drink lemon tea, or eats something with onion, cranberry, or grapefruit. This way not only you'll get vitamins but also fiber, water, other vitamins.

High doses of vitamins C increases the amount of glycogen in muscle (useful if you need pure strength) and helps the body to fight infections. An mega-boost of vit.C can be useful once in a while.
