Update: When I looked at my profile today I noticed a rash of 'Disagree' votes, something that I hadn't seen in months, maybe even a year or more. I looked at my recent reviews to see what I might have said in the last little while that would qualify as controversial, but there was nothing. Then it dawned on me. Rush had been inducted into the RRHOF. I was sure that I must have written something about them that was less than glowing and certainly not up to the standard of sycophantism to which their fanbase generally ascribes - to wit the review of 4 years ago... Original - 11/27/2008: No hurry. There will be those arguing their musical chops and persistance at staying the course should put them in consideration. But I think they made the same record every year for 20 years and sold it to the same bunch of guys, and then their little brothers and then their sons.

I'm sure Hutch played nothing but Rush in his van for a reason, but I'm kinda indifferent, especially if my indifference buys me D votes...

Complete joke they've never even been nominated and you've got Madonna in the "rock" hall. Somebody in the voting committee has an axe to grind - I just don't get it.

Only the second worst pseudo-intellectual band (that would be Tool). But they might make the HoF just because they outlive everyone else. Haven't they been playing for like five decades now or something? Not that I care.

Rush is only behind The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Kiss for total Album Sales! Rush has 22 consecutive gold records, and 14 of those went PLATINUM!!! Are you Kidding me??? The Pretenders are in the HOF and Rush is not??? COMPLETELY DE-LEGITIMIZES THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!

Survey the DJ's that work for any classic rock station and ask them what are their top 10 classic rock bands and they will list Rush in that top 10 - along with The Who, Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Zeppelin, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Springsteen and maybe the Doors or Eagles. I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should classic rock bands in there - and Rush deserves it - no doubt.

Rush were always a musician's band. The HOF caters to the popular crowd....as does Rolling Stone magazine, MTV and reality shows......errrgh, you get the idea. But even though I couldn't care less what lamo pop star gets in or not, a band like Rush should finally get some credit where credit is due. No they were never exactly adored by critics, the press, nor did they ever have hordes of lovesick 14 year old tween tarts crying over Geddy Lee's picture on the record jacket of 2112. ;) One thing they did though, and NOBODY can take away from them, is that they have sold more records than any other rock band on the planet, of course right after the Beatles and Led Zeppelin..... Not to mention they have toured the world for a better part of 4 full decades. Hmmmm, you'd think there's at least a handful of Rush fans out there somewhere.....gotta be a few. Does that mean the powers that be will have a change of heart and be convinced that these 3 immensely talented individuals are actua... Read more

Rush is a hi tempo off beat progressive rock band, you won’t hear a lot of melody. I agree that Geddy Lee's voice is acquired taste, having said that, he is still light years better than Dylan. If you’re an old crank, You should probably stay away from this band.

Competent musicians, but a pretty uninspired group, creatively speaking. Its not that they're bad, its just that they're dull.

Rush, in my opinion, is the greatest band of all time, even surpassing The Beatles. EVERYBODY has to like Rush, in some way or another. If you don't at all, and have nothing but bad things to say, then you shouldn' be listening to music of any kind. A 3-man band of this calibre has so much energy, sound, and talent bursting through it, that it's hard for me not to get an erection upon listening. Unimaginative, foolish people who say it's "uninspiring" and "lackluster" need their bozo heads examined. Every single one of these songs touch me, and you can visualize the music as if it was projected on a big screen in television form. I am proud to say I have seen them live, and the joy of watching them live doesn't necessarily come from the stage choreography, lighting, pyrotechnics and whatnot. Don't get me wrong, that's the icing on an already-well-frosted cake. The joy comes from actually WATCHING them manipulate their instruments and hearing their sound. For 3 much older guys, th... I am shocked at some of the people included in this Hall of Shame before others. Really? Run DMC?? No Rush? No Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Yes, ELO, Foreigner, Steve Miller, Jim Croce, Boston, but R.E.M? Madonna? (even though I do LOVE HER-not really Rock And Roll!!) I'm guessing we have different opinions on what Rock is, should be, ever was. Fortunately I'm sure Neil, Alex, and Geddy are too intelligent to let this bother them- they know their accomplishments. They still sell out huge venues, and they know their fans are above-average and loyal. I am glad that is enough for them. They have influenced millions- AND STILL DO! even 30+ years later- we are on our 3rd generation of Rush lovers in our family. I am proud that the kids in my life respect and honor Rush for the blessings they have given us. They even took a zero & refused to go on a school trip to the Hall of Shame because they'd rather buy a Rush cd than go to a sham place that is obviously too ignorant to get it. They can le... I listen to these guys a say: "How do they do it??" Unbelievable musicians. Just understand that as long as Jann Wenner and his cronies at that "music" magazine have control, groups like Rush, and many others that he has no idea exist, may NEVER get in. It's all politics and being politically correct. Just the opposite of what Rock and Roll stands for. Pathetic.

I wrote the Hall of Fame suggesting this be the year they induct Rush. This indeed is a virtuoso trio, who have been playing progressive rock with a metal twist to it. Neil Peart is an incredible percussionist and lyricist and Geddy Lee plays the bass like a 6-string guitar (I personally like the voice, though some don't). And of course, there's Alex Lifeson, a versatile guitarist known for both his electric and acoustic work, melodic leads and unique rhythms. Give one of Canada's most famous rocks a well-deserved spot in the Hall of Fame. "Listen to my music and hear what it can do...."

All right here FrankWildStars. Rush did not make the same album for over 20 years. If you were any type of music fan, you would realize that rush changed this world to a certain degree with their music. There so big they are in the top 15 bands in japan, JAPAN. You can't even suggest to me and actual rush fans that they have made the same album. I have every album, they don't sound the same. Before you make a comment like that, listen to there stuff, don't just assume. Their lyrics are different, they talk about different world problems, the future, and even tree's for god sake, I am 16, I am the hugest Rush fan bar none, I have not heard a rush song that i haven't liked, or got tired of. I only have one and on my ipod, in my case i only need one, RUSH, not a band with the "same album over 20 yrs". Your preaching to the wrong choir. Rush is music, Music revolves around rush!

If you don't like Rush, you probably like a band that would not be here if it wasn't for Rush. Any rock band thats worth a shit respects the hell out of them, and more than a few started playing because of them.

There is no better 3 man band, OVERALL, ever. Let me say that again....EVER. I don't care who you are or what you know about music... E V E R !!!!!! This band clearly meets all of the critieria that it takes to get in...no one can deny that. Rush's sound is clearly great. It is a very clear precise sound that includes more notes played per song than most 4 man bands put out. The live performances are 5 star. Anyone who has been to a Rush concert know that when they leave they got their $$$ worth and then some. This has nothing to do with being a fan... I believe that if you can look at their achievements and the influence they have had on the R&R; world that in itself is more than enough to get them in. I am a huge fan and have been for over 30 years. How many of you out there can say that about some of the bands in the hall of fame now?

With the exception of a few hard rock bands like Slayer, Motorhead, and Danzig, there are few bands in hard rock, metal, and progressive I do not like. However, Rush is one of them. I just never could stand Geddy Lee's voice and found many of their songs long and uninspiring.

After 35 years in the music industry making influential albums and touring endlessly, it is a true shame that Rush has not been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There is no true reason for this with the exception that the voters personally don't like Rush and their music. What I would really like to see is a voter coming forward and publicly commenting on why Rush has not been inducted but I do not see this happening in the near future.

Peart is the best drummer. Lee is in the top 5 bassists. Leifson is at LEAST a great guitarist, and Lee has a great voice. If they are not in the Rock and Roll hall fame, then that institution cannot judge rock and roll greatness. Without Rush its a joke.

Rush deserves to be in the Hall for so many reasons. Their inspiration and influence on musicians, their ability to stay current, and their ability to stay ahead of the times. Neal was mindful and alarmed at global warming 20 years before it was P.C. (listen to Distant Early Warning)!
