You Can Do Magic by America

Bland. The kind of inoffensive fluff that usually sells like hotcakes for 15 minutes & then is forgotten.Thankfully.

I only vaguely remember it, which probably means it didn't absolutely stink. Frankly I have no interest in looking it up, because I'm sure it would be the same innocuous pop that made up all of America's output.

America were second stringers in the mellow singer-songwriter genre duiring the mid 70's. By the time this song came out they were as faceless and generic a pop act as you were likely to find. I had completely washed this song from my memory until I opened this list. But no worries. It's so paper thin that it will fade away pretty quickly I'm sure.

This is a band that brought absolutely nothing new whatsoever to the table. In fact, they didn't even make anything that was unoriginal but substantial: " Sister Golden Hair" was pretty much a cloned George Harrison or Badfinger song. And as for " Tin Man," that was a Stephen Stills knockoff that was similar to Stephen's C,S,N,&Y, early solo, or Manassas stuff. And let's not even get into their best known song, " A Horse with No Name," which was so imitative of Neil Young that they should have not called themselves America. They should've just called themselves Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Dumb.

Perky little tune that trips along musically.
