Masterful performance against a Reds team that had one of the very best offenses in the NL this year. Personally, I think The Reds, a rather young club, may have overachieved this year: I was thinking that the club would be stronger a few years from now, but that's not to take away from this brilliant performance. Halladay is simply a great pitcher, and with Halladay, Oswalt, and Hamels The Phillies will be very tough to beat in the playoffs.

In over a century of post-season play there had only been one no-hitter thrown in baseball history. That was Don Larsen's perfect game for the Yankees in 1956. Today, Ray Halladay joined him, not with a perfecto but with a near flawless no-hitter, giving up a single baserunner in the fifth on a walk. Coming after his regular season perfect game back in May, this has solidified his reputation as a big game pitcher. Unfortunately, until he got to Philadelphia, he didn't get into many of them. I bet he's happy to be the hell and gone out of Toronto. And on a personal note, I am about six kinds of annoyed that work prevented me from seeing more than a couple of innings of the game. I gotta get me some more dying grandmothers so I can skip meetings....
