We ordered 5 rolls. Only 2, the Lousiana roll and Dragon roll had any taste, probably because they were covered in sauces. The other 3 rolls were bland and were made with way too much rice. The rice was also tasteless and too dry. Most of the rolls fell apart and stuck to the plate when we tried to pick them up. If you enjoy sushi, stay away from Godai.

Absolutely the best Sushi available in San Antonio. Goro, the Chef/Owner is an artist when it comes to his Sushi (and other food) and it will be apparent to you right away. It really doesn't matter what you try at Godai because it will be good and you will want to come back.

Simply the very best Sushi and Sashimi in San Antonio. I almost didn't give Godai 5 stars because I hate to wait for the delicious food that Goro makes for me! But, it's all made to order from the very freshest ingredients so I guess I'd rather wait than do without. Besides, the wait is only long on the busiest nights like Friday or Saturday. The rest of the time there's little wait time. My favorite roll...all of them but I order the A&M roll a LOT! If you love Sushi go to Godai.

I've eaten at many sushi places in San Antonio and this is by far the best. I've eaten sushi on the north side where all of the yuppies go in their fancy dress, but this place kicks them out of the water. It's SUPER fresh, tasty, and at a good price. The atmosphere is relaxing, and the noise volume is low so you can actually talk and enjoy the whole experience. Unlike Sushi Zushi on the north side of town. Chef Goro is always there to greet you and offer advice if your not sure what to get. Believe me!! You can get whatever, however you like. The menu is simply a guide. It's the freshest seafood I've had in town.

GREAT RESTURANT! Everything about Godai Sushi is wondeful. Great atmosphere and can pretty much squeeze you in anytime. My boyfriend and I came in at its busiest and they seated us right away. The service is really great and very attentive. But the sushi is simply amazing and also very well presented. I recommend the Alaskan roll and the Crunchy roll. Also a good place if you dont like sushi! My boyfriend does not eat sushi and he ordered the chicken terriaki and LOVED IT. I will definatly be returning.

I have tried other sushi places and really have no complaints, but when I am in the mood for a "sushi fix', I keep going back to the best of the best. I found this place right here on this site and I followed everyone's advice. Everything is great about this place. The food is fantastic, the service is exception and I have never have trouble finding parking. So far my favorite sushi roll is the Joanna's Roll, but I also try something new everytime I go. Definitely expect a little bit of a wait if you get there later on Fri or Sat, but it is well worth it. Enjoy!

The longhorn roll at Godai has to be one the best things I have ever tasted. This is a fantastic casual restaurant, try to go at off hours, because it does get crowded.

I am an avid sushi consumer and it is hard to find a great place that is consistent. The food is amazing! I highly recommend the Alaskan Roll; it melts in your mouth. It is also hard to find a sushi place that offers you miso soup and cucumber salad that is free (most places make you pay for each). The best seat in the house is at the bar. I dont recommend that you come late on a Fri or Sat, they usually get really busy. However, I think it is worth it to wait in line if you do come in late! Goro is amazing and friendly and if you come there often enough he starts to know your order. Great Service and good food.

Sushi is mediocre and too expensive for what you get. I will pay for good sushi, but that is not what you will find at this establishment. Service is extreamly slow, it took over 45min to just get a refill on our drinks. I have been several times with the hopes that the last time I went was just a fluke. Nope, same bad service and mediocre sushi.

Sushi was awful. Fish was not fresh. No ambiance-looks like a barbeque joint. Took forever to get pur food. Too expensive ~$40 for one person!

For sushi alone, this is the BEST place in San Antonio. The menu was extensive, the server knowledgeable, the specials interesting. And the fish! Oh, the fish! Tender, moist, fresh. The sushi was absolutely perfect. If you are in town and looking for sushi, this is the place. They even have (gasp!) cloth napkins. Sounds trivial, but every other place just had paper. I live for my little luxuries, and Godai is it.

Being from Miami , living on the ocean, and having a close intimate knowledge of most things japanese... I have to say that this is THE BEST sushi in San Antonio! I wish he had Conch... but I'd probably be one of a very few eating it anyway! :) The price is very affordable and it's a very fun atmosphere...I eat there when ever I get a chance!

I have been searching all over San Antonio for more outstanding sushi restaurants. After hearing about Goro and his sushi, I must admit I was very disappointed in Godai. The sushi lacked imagination and the gyoza was extremely lack luster. I will not be returning to this establishment and I love sushi.

It's not much on ambience (being in an old garden center), but the food is fantastic. If you're alone or just with one friend, sit at the sushi bar and you'll be guaranteed to be entertained. Goro's numerous roles are creative, but maintain ties to traditional fare and his sauces are incredible. If you really want to jump into sushi, attend one of Goro's classes held through Central Market.

Goro delivers very high quality sushi. The seafood always tastes fresh & they never fall apart on me (which means Goro knows how to roll his rolls!) I love the fact that he knows everyone by their first names and no matter how busy the place gets, he always has time to leave the counter and at least give you a hug or say hi to you. The service is wonderful as well. As soon as you get situated, the waiter always comes out with a bowl of miso soup and salad. I love the mushroom touch on his miso soup - gives it more flavor! After a few minutes of waiting (& waiting time can vary because it does get pack in Godai), you get to eat your sushi rolls! I highly recommend the lobster roll & Squid Enchilada roll! Oh so yummy! You definitely need to visit Godai!

I tried Goro's sushi for the first time October 2002. It's close to my three year anniversary. I am going to pay him a visit tonight. The look and feel is contemporary. The taste is extraordinary. Goro has my heart or rather my taste buds in his hands. He knows his customers and what they like. Godai is a unique Japanese restaurant nestled in this lil ol growing city. I highly recommend taking your friends, heck even your co-workers for a great meal at a great price.

We were so surprised and pleased to see that "Goro" had moved into our neighborhood. Our family eats here almost weekly-the food, service and atmosphere are excellent. If you don't eat sushi, don't let the label "Sushi Bar" scare you away. There is something here for everyone. Great sashimi, nigiri, rolls, etc. Best of all, you always are made to feel like family when you are there. Domo arigato, Goro!

This place is fantastic! Casual, comfortable, friendly, delicious and then you get the bill and think they made a mistake in your favour. Service with a smile. Try the lobster tail roll or the dueling dragons roll or the enchillada -- all yummy.

Sushi has come along way here in San Antonio. I remember back in the late 80's to the early 90's there were only a few places here in town. Now there are many places to enjoy sushi. But to pick apart those few places it is not only the food but the experience that goes along with it. Here at Godai Sushi Bar and Restaurant you will find that FUN and EXCITING experience, I will assure that.
