I underwent Japanese hair straightened with Sal at Janet Rufin's. I've been getting this processing for years and years now, but it was my first time with Sal. He did a FANTASTIC job. My hair came out silky straight and smooth, but not limp and flat. Moreover, my hair is in excellent condition. I'm really thrilled with the results.

My hair is wavy and has a mind of its own. I have had a hard time finding someone who can cut it in a way that lets me be able to be the wash and go kinda girl that I am. Stacey did an awesome job! She really listened to me and did what was needed to revive my hair. I would go back to her in a heart beat!

The overall experience was terrific from Stacy to every member of the salon . Highly reccomend for all!!!!!

I recently visited Jenet Rufin's Parlor for the first time. It was a wonderful experience. Janet took the time to listen to my ideas and put in her own input/expertise so that together we could come up with a look I would love! Which Janet created spot on. The atmosphere in the Parlor is calming and modern. I know that I have found Janet Rufin's Parlor to be the place I shall always go for my hair needs!

A pompus, self important pig! Her talent & luck of having that spot, is of a has been nature. Her Daddy bought her the place. She gave me leopard spots & was un apologetic about it. This info needs to be put out there. KARMA, in these economic times, your non sense& luck will not last. And there is a dirty dog that runs around the shop, that has to be some kind of health violation.

Im new in the city and went to janet's to get my roots done. The stylist helping me must have put on something way too strong and it started to scold my head. She only left it on for a matter of minutes- not even able to finish coloring- because of the intensive pain. She claimed that i must have had an allergic reaction and did not seem at all apologetic. I now have fried roots, which is not an allergic reaction but her coloring error. When i talked to Janet about this she took no responsibility for her employee. Telling me she didnt do it, she seemed frustrated and annoyed with my speaking to her. She told me the only way she would fix it is if i paid her to. I understand beauty mistakes happen, but the lack of consideration really upset me the most. I have never had a worse salon experience.

Found Janet Rufin's Parlor randomly , staff was great, service was terrific and atmosphere relaxing. The Keratin treatment results were awesome and have lasted for months. I am looking forward to going back soon for my next treatment and will be getting my haircut as well. Recommend this salon with no hesitation :)

I just got my hair cut and colored by Yuval this week and the results are remarkable! I've been going to different stylists for the past few years in the area and everyone is pretty much all about their own egos and opinions until I walked into Janet Rufin's Parlor and asked for Yuval (he was recommended by a co-worker). I told him I wanted something cool and hip, but still conservative (i'm a investment equities attorney). He totally knew what to do with color and highlights as to not be toooo too edgy, but still a little rad. And the cut is equally amazing! Yuval (he told me i could call him YUVI) is such a fun person to talk to. My mom is scheduled to get fixed up by Yuval next week, and i've already recommended like 6 people from my job. Highly recommended and can't wait to go back! -Jessica

Yuval has cut my hair twice so far; the first cut and blow-dry were AMAZING! I looked like a different person… Then Yuval cut my hair a second time and I decided to try a drastic cut this time. I fully trust Yuval to cut my hair 12”!!! I look fantastic, I get comments everywhere I go on how great my hair looks. Make sure to ask him about the hydrating treatment, it will change your hair! I can’t say enough good things about Yuval; he is very talented and I highly recommend.

Yuval is hands down the best hairstylist in New York City! It takes a lot to trust someone with your hair, and I can't recommend him enough. I've been a client of his for about 5 years now. I am so excited every time I make an appointment. Yuval's energy is so contagious...he LOVES what he does and his whimsical passion to make someone feel amazing is off the charts. His style, both with cuts and color, is classy, edgy and vogue all at the same time. He is an attentive listener, not to mention attractive as hell! Yuval also has the most amazing moisturizing/scalp hydration treatments! EVERYONE should get one of these a few times a year, especially as we approach the cold/dry season. I can't recommend Yuval's services enough! You will walk away looking great and feeling great for spending an hour or two with him. The salon/parlor that he works at is super trendy as well, very old New York style with cutting edge decor...very impressive! And great, convenient Chelsea locatio... Read more

Yuval has been my stylist of choice for the last several years. After going from salon to salon for years I was fortunate enough to land in Yuval's chair when he was recommended to me by another well respected stylist in the city. From the very first cut, he had me with his flair and sense of style. He is passionate about his craft and it is evident in his work. One of the many great things about Yuval is that he can create a new, fresh look that is stylish and maintainable. When I want a change. I just let him do what he does best and I can truly say that I've never been disappointed. Often times I leave feeling that it's the best cut and look I've ever had. I am highly recommending Yuval. If you want the very best, put your hair and your trust in Yuval's hands.

It's always a bit iffy to go to a new hair salon, but my hair was about three months overdue. I loved Sayuri and thought she did an amazing job with both cut and color.

First time visit: I met my new stylist Sayuri for a trim but I got antsy for a change... and made a last-minute decision to do a full chop. She walked me through it with MUCH patience and attention and I walked out with a perfect fresh cut - exactly what I wanted! Not to mention, the place is adorable and the staff is cool AND friendly (v rare in salons). I just decided to go back today for color. That should say it all.

My most beloved stylist/colorist Yuval (formally at XacAnthony Salon & Spa), just started working at Janet Rufin's Parlor and I am THRILLED!! Yuval is by far the best stylist I have ever met, his colors/cuts/highlights are superb and he can do everything from funky and bold to classy and upscale. I have been going to Yuval for over 5 years now and I am excited he found this warm, inviting space for himself to work. The place is cute, attitude-free and there's a nice back yard to relax in :-) I highly recommend Yuval for anything you need, his technique and skill level are beyond what you would expext, he listens to you, understands your needs, and gives you a hair style that is unique for you, for your overall style, your everyday life and needs. And believe it or not, he has no ounce of attitude. Yuval is truly as creative as they ever come!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YUVAL AND I LOVE THIS SALON, you really can't go wrong!!!

I went in to get highlights by an apprentice who never showed up, but they called ahead and let me know and re-scheduled my appointment. While getting my color done, they were able to accomodate a last-minute, un-scheduled haircut with Eugene, who is very meticulous and did a great job reshaping a previously bad haircut.

I recently underwent Japanese hair straightening/thermal reconditioning with Sal from Janet Rufin's Parlor. This was not the first time I had undergone this process, but it was the first time I had it done by anyone other than Masako (formerly of the same salon). At first I was nervous about going to someone new, but I'm absolutely THRILLED with the results -- Sal's knowledge, experience, and attention to detail are unparalleled. Although I have undergone Japanese hair straightening for the past 7 years, Sal's results were the best I've ever had. My hair is, of course, straight, but it's also lustrous, soft, and in great condition. Simply put, Sal is a master!

Janet Rufin's Parlor displays both a classy and professional environment. Their staff is extremely friendly and inviting. I had my first haircut there with their newest stylist- Jennifer King. She's excellent at what she does with a lot of professional experience. She knows how to take what you're thinking for a style and interpret it into a work of art w/ your hair! -A true artist!! I'll definitely be returning and recommend everyone to go there! Ask for Jennifer!

Some time ago I had Damian cut my hair and it was hands down the worst hair cut of my life!!! On the website it said that he does editorial work and has worked with quite a few celebrities so I was excited to work with him. I had the highest hopes. But boy was I dissapointed!! I told him what I wanted, he seemed like he understood but when it was done my hair was ruined. While he was cutting he seemed very scatter brained and nervous. He wouldn't stop talking the entire time about I don't know what?? He just went on and on changing subjects without finishing a cohesive sentence. This is probably what happens when he is cutting. He gave me something totally different than what I asked for. Do not have this man cut your hair!!! He is awful!!!! Those poor models!!! They must hate him!!!!

I went to see Elke today to have my eyebrows shaped. Elke made me feel completely comfortable. She is very personable and informative regarding my eyebrows. After a completely painless tweezing/shaping, Elke showed me how to use brow makeup. She did one eyebrow and then let me try the other. My brows finally look good. I will definately go back. The only downside was that I could not purchase any brow makeup at the salon, it has to be ordered through Elke's website. Other than that, I was very happy with the results

I came here for the first time last year after years of searching this city for the perfect hairstylist. I was thrilled to find John -- he gave me such an amazing cut. He patiently took his time cutting my thick, wavy hair into an amazing short style with bangs. Best part was that it all grew out into an amazing long style which I've had ever since. I also really liked the laid-back atmosphere here -- the whole staff is friendly and attentive. So, stop your search, this place is the best.

My hair was a mess and I had a difficult time explaining what I wanted. Karen and Veronica listened to everything I said. Karen gave me the most perfect blonde highlights I have ever had, and Veronica's hair cut is the best I've ever had!!! The down side was the salon was dark and the receptionist was rude. The owners dog was running around and actually went in my purse and ate my gum. Still, my hair was the best ever so I was going to go back... I called to make an appointment and was told Karen and Veronica were no longer there. I was given a number to reach Karen and found out they were 4 blocks away at Christopher Stanley Salon! It was like night and day. The salon is bright and inviting. The staff is friendly and professional! I'm so glad to have found my girls here!!!

I have been going to Janet for 2 years now, after many years of hopping around through colorists who left me too light, too brassy, too red... Janet gives me natural, gorgeous highlights that grow out perfectly every time. She has an eye for what would best complement and enhance your individual look and coloring. The salon itself is peaceful and relaxed with a family-like atmosphere, taking you out of the NYC chaos for a bit. Janet is absolutely the best.

She puts the right colors in so it all looks together and i do finally look blonde and glamorous! Yay Janet!! and if you're here on the right day you can even catch the happy hour!

I had a hair emergency - bad, overdone highlights - and needed a gentle but effective corrective color. I made an appointment after researching on City Search. When I arrived at the salon, there was a computer glitch or something and they couldn't find my info. It appeared that no one was available, but Janet said she would take care of me herself. We had a thorough consultation and she worked her magic. I would give five stars, but as a college student the price was a bit steep for me - she did several processes and so of course it was more than usual. She reassured me that the next visits would take less processing, and I'm sticking with them. Thanks Janet! I received all kinds of compliments on the shine and color of my hair -

When I started gong to Janet Rufin's Parlor, I was immediately impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. They go out of their way to make their customers feel welcome! Stacey Smoker is a talented stylist and colorist. She listened to what I was looking for and made some suggestions as to what color/cut would work with my features. As a result, I have beautiful haircolor and highlights. When she cut's my hair, it looks great even after 8 weeks! I would highly recommend Janet Rufin's parlor!

I decided to go see Karen after reading so many positive reviews about her online. My hair was bleached blonde and I needed to have it dyed very dark brown, so I knew I needed a real pro. When I got to the salon, the staff was sooo friendly, offering water and such, and Karen was so sweet. She really listened to all my concerns and was honest with me about all the processes it would take to make such a transformation in color. It took a while, but when she was finished the color was STUNNING and glossy and I could not have been happier. I cannot say enough good things about Karen's skills. Highly highly recommended salon.

I went here after reading the reviews, and was not disappointed. I have been going to the same colorist for years, but lately my hair has been looking a bit dry and the color seemed a bit too brassy the last few times I had it done. When I came to Janet Rufin, I explained all this to the colorist, Stacy. She asked lots of good questions - including how long my old colorist kept the dye/color on my ends. She explained that I needed more of an ash tone to match my eyebrows. The color came out great- and I was complimented by many people at work. My hair also felt softer, and lasted longer than my old color. While this place is more expensive than my old colorist, I think it is totally worth it, and have booked another appointment. Nice, clean salon and friendly staff, too.

I went to Janet Rufin's Parlor for the first time recently and was very pleased. It is a small, intimate space compared to some of the larger salons I have been to in the past. Everyone makes you feel comfortable and at right at home. Stacy gave me great blonde highlights and gave me a lot of personal attention. I never felt ignored or rushed. I will definitely go back!

I called in desperate need of someone to correct a bad color/highlight job and the receptionist told me that she'd squeeze me in and to come right over. Karen took a look at my hair and did exactly what I wanted: stripped the too dark color from my hair and went over it with a more natural-looking shade. Everyone has been complimenting me on my new color. I will definitely be back!

It's taken me over 20 years to find a haircut that works for my extremely curly hair, but I found it at Janet Rufin's Parlor! On my first visit Janet spent time with me figuring out the best way to do highlights in my hair, then turned me over for a haircut as well. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair as I have since I started coming here!

Went in looking like a washed out tortoise-shell cat and left feeling beautiful. Weeks later, a stranger woman on the subway told me I had beautiful eye color! Never heard that one before. (My eyes are brown!) It's because my highlights are gorgeous and lighten my eyes, uncannily. Beauty doesn't come cheap though, I've never been charged separately for lowlights and highlights before - in about 25 years of getting salon color in NYC.

It came highly regarded here on citysearch so I was excited to try it out for a TRIM i repeat a TRIM. The salon is a basic no frills space but I was still excited to have my hair cut by the owner.. I sat in the chair and said I like my hair just need a TRIM and clean up. Janet (owner) said she liked my length and would just clean it up. Well when I left my hair was at least 2 and half inches shorter than when I came in and had NO STYLE just flat to my face and cut blunt. I feel ripped off, cheated and really upset about my chopped locks. when I checked out the the front desk lady told me if I filled out a citysearch review and printed it out for my next haircut it would be half off. That is how she got this many reviews. Please beware not worth 135 at all go somewhere where its worth it. Again awful :(

Eugene had been highly recommended to me and now I understand why. I have frizzy, curly, thick unmanageable hair. Eugene quickly understood my hair challenges. He successfully thinned it and styled it without having to shorten it dramatically - bringing out its natural curl. This is the best hair cut I've had in years. Have received many compliments. The salon is warm and cozy. Check this place out. You won't regret it!

Went to Janet Rufin's Parlor for the first time after reading the glowing reviews on Citysearch. Had a haircut with John and was totally thrilled with the results. Haven't had this many compliments about how I looked in a long time. John really listens and then explains what he would like to do and why. While he was cutting my hair we had a lovely conversation about spirituality and I felt very connected to this total stranger. John is very special and talented as well. Make an appointment, you will be glad you saw John.

I have my hair Japanese straightened (thermal reconditioning) and I am loyal to Masako. She has done my hair 3 times now and when she relocated to Janet Ruffin's parlor, of course I followed her there. She does the most amazing job and she is extremely thorough. She doesn't get easily distracted and when she is working on my hair, it feels like there might as well be no one else in the room, that is how hard she is concentrating. And the results are top notch. I will be booking my fourth appointment with her in the next month. She has over 12 years experience in thermal reconditioning, she did it in her native Japan for many years. So if you are looking for an expert in the field, she is the one to see! I have also read amazing reviews on the stylists, I plan on booking an appointment with John to have my hair cut.

After spending years dropping so much (hard-earned) cash on celebrity colorists, I am thrilled to discover Janet Rufin's salon. I have asian hair and it's rare to find a colorist who can give me soft color with natural highlights--usually, if I go to less expensive salons, I end up with red brittle hair with orange stripes for highlights. So, I eventually resigned myself to forking over a significant handful of my earnings to pay for good hair color. But, this kind of spending couldn't last (I gotta eat) and this is when I gave Janet Rufin a try. I was apprehensive when I met the beautifully blond Stacey (can she do asian hair??!!). But, after she was through, I was amazed. My hair was glossy, and the color/highlight was perfectly rich, natural-looking, and so flattering. I have had so many compliments and after 2 months, the color still remains rich and beautiful. Stacey has an amazing gift. And unlike other shi-shi salons, you deal with just one person (not a dizzying crew o... Read more

I dropped into this place because I live nearby and had gotten three weird haircuts in a row. By chance I was paired with John, one of their stylists. I always feel a little clumsy and out of place at salons because...well...they're just not 'me'. I never know how to put on their little 'tops' or whatever they are. Just one of those things I guess. That's why I was surprised when I sat in John's chair for the first time and felt relaxed. Some individuals just have that effect on people, I suppose, and John is certainly one of them. I could tell you that he's good at cutting/styling my hair (he is) and I could tell you that he listens to me when I describe how I want it cut (he does) and I could rave about how he unobtrusively offers his creative advice about my haircut (he has), but all that would only detract from what really set him apart for me: his ability to make me want to go back. That's it.

I was in search of a new salon and stylist - cut, color. I went to Janet's and tested the salon with a wash and blow-out . To my suprise, it was the best and most affordable one i have ever had! I have now been going for a year and get all of my color (blond) and cuts done. They are amazing - everyone is incredibly knowledgeable about color - Janet is a trainer for one of the color lines i found out - and very friendly. This is a hidden gem! I think this is one of the best salons in NY!
