If you like to wait 45 minutes to make an exchange by a new (very nice) employee that doesn't know what he's doing, while his 5 bitter DB mangers sit around and massage each others shoulders to take the edge off......then this is the place for you! Whatever the manager was texting must have been very important because he didn't have a moment to spare to help his struggling employee. NOT COOL. I guess you could say they aren't in to micro-managing. I had a similar experience the last time I was there too. I guess some things never change. Unless you are desperate, I would save an hour of your life and buy online.

wow, what a bad experience. a good selection, but an extremely unpleasant manager (possibly the aforementioned "rob" -- anyway, a miserable young jag-off from texas he was), highly unprofessional.

I went into the Guitar Center on 14th Street looking to buy a guitar for my husband's brithday. This would be his first guitar and I did not want to spend a lot of money in case my husband didn't take a love to it - plus he could always buy a nicer guitar down the road when he can actually play a song... Anyway, the acoustic guitar department was VERY helpful and NOT pushy at all - unfortunately, I realized that it was an electric guitar my husband wanted. I was then given to Rob on the floor covering electric guitars. He began by telling me a story about how a woman bought her 12 year old son a $5,000 guitar for his birthday and that my husband wouldn't be proud of the guitar I was looking at in my price range ($300 - 500)... I called my brother in law to double check what my husband has mentioned he'd like to start with and he assured me that the $300 - 500 price range would buy me a perfect gift for my husband / his brother. I put my brother in law on the phone with Rob and I heard ... Read more

Upon entering the store one is greeted with a dazzling wall or more of electric guitars. The acoustic room (why I came to the store) was stocked with less guitars but some high-end ones ($4000 up) including one I especially liked. There were lower end prices ($300-400) acoustics in the main entrance room as well. The staff was pleasant as well as distant in approach, depending upon who you spoke with. I did try to make a deal and it was met with indifference. I emailed after a few days and many days later have not received an answer. It could be this flagship store is patronized by many wealthy clients so the average customer has to "wait in line" so to speak. Understandable. But this store is good for electric guitars especially but there are better places if you are strictly shopping for acoustics.

Pushy sales folks, phony insurance offers at ridiculous price, long waits and compromised quality. Take the extra effort to find a local store.
