Charming, historic, huge hotel next to Union Square. I had been in it a few times, but never taken the elevaror up - when walking around Union Square you see the elevators going up and down; they are on the outside of the building. I took them up to the 32nd floor for a wedding reception, and it's really cool to check out the view as you're climbing up the side of the building. The top floor again has the views and is an elegant setting, incredible for a reception if one has the means.

This is an expensive hotel so I am sure people want to get their money's worth. It is a luxury hotel. The food is ok. I worked temp here. he he They had Oz then the disco. I am not sure if it is still there maybe or the name would be changed. Now to other's they might complain for all that money for it to be a regular hotel. It is a good location on Union Sq if you want to be downtown. For others it could be a bit stuffy. It is middle to upper class. I might stay there if I had the money. They were not rude when I was temp there but it was not exactly fun either. For some reason I have had people calling me the typist after this and they do gossip a lot if you work there I have heard. I also went to Oz under another guise and the younger girls did not like it saying it was too square and boring. Another girl seemed to have had a "ball" there. It depends.

I pretty much heart this place! This is where we got married last June. The views from the top floor are unparallel! We rented the entire 33rd floor...both Victors and the Alexandria Room. Between the gorgeous decor, amazing sunset, and gorgeous city views, the space was absolutely magestic! The food was not your typical 'hotel wedding' meal. Everything was done so beautifully, and tasted amazing. Fantastic service throughout the entire evening and the honeymoon suites were awesome!! I wanted to move in permanently :)

I loved this hotel. My boyfriend and I stayed at the St. Francis for a little weekend getaway. The location is perfect to get to anywhere in the city. The building is gorgeous, with so much history. When we check in they gave us a complimentary upgrade to a double room with a large window that opened in the new tower. Modern, clean room. The service was excellent. They were always happy to help with directions, etc. Would definitely stay there the next time we go to San Fran.

In Short Built in 1904 as part of a campaign to make San Francisco the "Paris of the West," the hotel offers elegant rooms and top-notch service. The central Union Square location draws tourists and business travelers alike, and the hotel caters to such guests by offering a comprehensive business center, conference facilities, a health club and spa, high-speed internet for a fee and family services like on-site childcare. Pricier rooms boast sweeping city views, and all guests sleep on the Westin's signature Heavenly Beds.

I had stayed at this hotel many times before looking it up on 'citysearch' and I was so disappointed to see how many terrible reviews it recieved. Every single time I come to San Francisco I make a point to stay at this hotel. I have not stayed in the older part of the hotel recently but I never had a problem with cleanliness. The rooms in the taller newer towers are modern but very warm and comfortable (Waterford bed linens feel pretty amazing after a long day) and the lobby looks straight out of a movie scene, especially during Christmas. When I last visited there was construction at the 'Compass Rose' bar downstairs. That was the only downfall. I will say that the parking is very expensive, but I never had a problem with a long wait. Why don't you call ahead of time if it takes so long? Bottom line, this is a great hotel. The best location (especially if you want to shop for clothes).

Good location but a bit dated. If you like modern or newly decorated hotels, then this is not for you. The hotel has a very friendly vibe, with the turn of the century style. You can almost picture people used to come to the front of the hotel with horse carriages. Unfortunately, it also smells like it's from the turn of the century and scared my husband a bit. We stayed there for a birthday getaway for my hubby and tried Michael Mina which was simply amazing!!! If you make reservation for dinner at Michael Mina, you must reserve a room because by the end of the meal, you just want to roll upstairs because you can't do anything else!!!

An unwarranted snootiness by hotel employees and a below average guest room force me to never stay here again. Cabs outside hotel won't take less than a $20 fare, my room smelled like wet dog and had paint chips literally falling off the wall. Bathrooms are smaller than my first apartment bathroom. Spa was nice, food was good.

If you are thinking of having a conference there, DON'T!! They have the worst service ever and the hotel is not well equipped. Staff members are rude and obnoxious. We had a multi day conference there and some staff members denied our guests to use the phones in business center to make local calls. There are so many other hotels in the area that are business friendly.

I've stayed here a few times on business. The rooms in the tower building are what you expect of a Westin: modern, large and nicely furnished. The rooms in the main building are old, small and very unappealing. The biggest plus of the tower building is that the rooms don't have doors to adjoining rooms making them very quiet and peaceful for a business trip. The internet and the gym were very extra and pretty expensive. The hotel was always crowded with tourists. With all the choices, you can find a better hotel in Union Square.

Location is terrific ! Old tower had original charm with perfect view of Union Square. Staff was very friendly. We even received a free upgrade. Loved the wireless internet ! Dual shower head with powerfull pressure for a terrific shower experience. Newspaper every morning. Great atmosphere for a decent cost. It is one of the oldest hotels in town. Good restaurants walking distance. Sears Fine Foods for breakfast or the Oak Room. We couldn't ask for more. They accomodate kids and babies.

In Short Located on the arcade level of the historic Westin St. Francis, this 4,600-square-foot space features both a fitness center and spa facilities. The top-of-the-line cardio equipment and weight room is only open to hotel guests, but locals still flock here for the deluxe pampering in the spa. Hot stone massages, customized facials, airbrushed sunless tanning and a variety of treatments--including the Fog Lifter Jet Lag cure--are also available in guest's rooms.

We are SPG members and stay at the Westin hotels all over the place. Usually, we do not experience any problems with the staff or the services. However, at the Westin St. Francis, we had the WORST experience! They couldn't get the reservation straight and tried to deny that we made a reservation when we had a confirmation print-out in our hands!!! And words can't describe adequately how rude the front desk staff and even the management. Perhaps they think that we are merely "one" customer and how they treat this one customer will not affect their business as a whole??? Well, I hope many travelers out there read this comment and take it very seriously. PLEASE do NOT stay at the Westin St. Francis! It is in good location but we will NEVER return to and we will tell all our friends and family also never to stay there.

First impressions were tainted with a 30 minute wait to get into the garage. Front desk staff seemed helpful enough but the concierge gave the wrong address to a very popular restaurant that cost an extra $10 in cab fare to correct. Service in the lobby bar was absent even though there were at least three staff talking with each other about what they had planned for the weekend. Room service screwed up a very basic request and we finally gave up and cancelled the order. On the good side, this hotel is well located and we experienced a very clean and comfortable room, even in the "old" part of the hotel. I am a frequent user of Westin properties, and will probably continue to use the brand, but this hotel is off the list because of the sevice standards.

The hotel was fantastic. I have no idea what the other rater is talking about, unless he didn't know that every fine hotel charges for local calls.....the lobby bar was great fun, ballroom style dancing, great drinks, and good security to keep the homeless of SF out. I felt like a VIP all weekend.

Average hotel in an excellent location (if you like to shop). Staff was OK. At the end there was a discrepency on our bill and we disputed. The front desk was VERY RUDE. Didn't have time to argue b/c we had to catch a plane. Rooms are very noisy. Could hear horns/buses throughout the night. Fitness center was good. Service in the bar was awful. If I came back to SF I'd try my luck with another hotel. Concierge was very nice. They bought us an appetizer at a local restaurant one night.
