I typically don't color my hair but wanted a change. Dawn Hill helped my find the perfect color. Its very natural, shiny and low maintenance - I love it! I enjoyed talking with Dawn, plus they play good music too. I guess I'll have to try the spa next.

Emily Hatfield did my cut and color two weeks ago, she did an awesome job. I am an attorney, and everyone I work with has complimented me on how professional and stylish I look. I recommend her highly.

I always have trouble finding a hair salon that has stylist that can actually give me a haircut that I like without having to pay an arm and a leg. I am also put off by the snobbery of most high end saloons. Hello! I am paying you to cut my hair. Joie de Vie has a great atmosphere and makes me feel welcome to return for a hair cut or other service. My hair stylist Amanda is awesome and great to talk to. She has been so patient in helping to make sure I get a haircut that I like. I have been happy every time I have been there in the last year!

I went to this salon for the first time this past weekend and got a parking spot right up front! My favorite stylist, Angelia Sheets works there and she ROCKS! They had the most adorable flower hair clips there too for a great price! The staff was very friendly, got me a drink and all were real personable. I highly recommend it!!!!!!!!

I highly recommend hair stylist Emily Hatfield for a haircut and/or color. Finally, after 5 years of being in the Austin area, I have found a true expert and professional in the hair industry. I have long, straight, heavy hair; that I find sometimes, female stylists have a hard time handling. I'm typically open to whatever hair cutting technique the stylist wants to use, as long as they 'keep the length' ;) ...but extremely picky when choosing color ...having dark brown hair, it's easy to look like a zebra. Emily immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease with her warm, yet outgoing personality, and vast knowledge of hair color and care products. I loved that I could leave so much of the decision making up to her, and came out looking like a million bucks. I live and work in Round Rock, so when my appointment went a little past 8pm, I was surprised and delighted at how welcome the staff still made me feel; and didn't try to rush me out. And finally, the amount of complime... Read more

I decided to try this spa on 6th after a friends recommendation. I got an hour massage from Ryan and it was the best massage I have ever had! If you need a relaxing massage from someone who knows what they are doing check this place out.

Every other Friday night from 5-8 is happy hour at Joie De Vie. This is the best idea ever, I wish more salons did it. All services are super cheap- it's a great way to get your nails/hair done before going out for the night (just step out the front door and your on 6th Street!)- the best part is, there are FREE DRINKS and FOOD. There's a DJ upstairs, and everyone is having fun. I suggest Happy Hour at Joie De Vie to everyone! I'm pretty sure their site has the dates, I found it just by walking by.

I am fairly new to Austin so finding someone to cut my hair was hard. I'm super picky and didn't know where to go. My friend from work suggested I go here and so I went with it. My friend raved and raved about how good Amanda was and how much she loved the salon atmosphere. I was a little skeptical at first. Once I entered Joie de Vie though the staff was very friendly and willing to help you relax while you waited. They had wine, beer, and snacks available and they have a computer upstairs that you can browse on. Once I met Amanda, she was super friendly and really wanted to know what I wanted. I told her I wanted to get rid of a lot and so she said well how short do you want to go? I was a little nervous at first, but she gave me the best haircut I have ever had. I have received so many compliments on my hair and would highly recommend Amanda Eggimann to anyone!!

i went to a very upscale "im too good for you" salon and paid WAY over $200 for a cut and color...well it was HORRIBLE. my hair was orange. i had to go back to get it fixed and it was STILL the worst cut and color i have ever had. i went to go see AMANDA and she fixed my hair and made it EXACTLY the way i wanted it. i felt totally comfortable being with her. she listened to what i said and took the time to talk to me about the actual color i was wanting. i left feeling great!! YOU HAVE TO GO SEE AMANDA...SHE IS THE BEST!!!!!!

I recently was referred to this salon by a friend so I decided to check it out. I absolutely loved the experience. I came in for a day of pampering and left in the best mood I have ever been in. From the time I walked in the door, the coordinator(I believe her name was Stephanie) took the best care of me. My stylist, Erin, took her time consulting me on every aspect of my hair and gave me the best cut and color I have ever had. I recommend this salon to anyone who wants that relaxed, Austin experience without paying a hefty price!

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming! The front desk makes sure you are taken care of and makes you feel important when you walk in the door. The stylist that I use is AWESOME! Her name is Deanna, my three daughters went to her first and their hair turned out GREAT so I thought I would give her a try. I am very pleased with the way she takes the time to go over what is going to be best for my kind of hair and the message oh my, you can't get that everywhere you go! Deanna takes the time and make you look and feel good about yourself. My daughter's range in age from 18 - 26 and I am 44 so this woman knows how to please all ages. I RECOMMEND DEANNA to all my friends and family she is one of a kind!

First, i wanted to say that is "hands down" one of my all time favorite salons. Thanks to the hotel concierge that sent me here!! I walked in and the music was completely jamming! There are two really cool looking girls at the front desk, that made me feel like I would want their advice on what to wear or something..:) Anyway, I did not have an appointment and they were able to fit me in for a cut immediately. I loved the rock n' roll vibe it had. The stylists were really "hip" with colored streaks in their hair and it was EXACTLY what I needed to make me feel like I was getting my hair done in the "Music Capital of the world"!! It was fun, exciting, and really different! I would recommend this to any "out of towner" or local that wants to experience something fresh!

Coming from a very high maintenance person when it comes to hair Shondi does an amazing job. She listened to me about the look I wanted and worked it out better than I could have expected. I am a loyal fan now and just enjoy the whole experience of going to the salon. I even drive up from San Antonio since I've moved

This is why you should book your next hair doin at Joie de Vie....They are in a great location on 6th street right in the heart of historic downtown. They are an eclectic and groovy salon with a cute and sassy staff that is adorable and always takes care of you. I always have a cold tecate waiting for me when I arrive. But the main reason....is to see Shondi. Two words....hair confidence. You will have it when she is done with you. She is awesome at creating "your look and style". She has been my stylist for 3 yrs and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair.

I went to the salon on Jan 31st after a long day at a conference. I already had an appointment in my hometown to get my hair cut, but I had wanted to go to Joie de Vie for the last 3 years! (The last time I was there I picked up a gift certificate for a friend's birthday, so I have been waiting a while) Anyway, I couldn't give Shondi an exact image of how I wanted it cut, I just told her punky, kind of edgy with textured ends and she did a GREAT job. I totally recommend going to her! If I end up in Austin in a year and a half I will totally be going there.

Recently I found my favorite-ever hair dresser, Linz. I really can't explain how rare this is, or how grateful and pleased I am. When I first came to her, she took the time to find out exactly what I wanted. I have seen other cuts she has done, and they are very edgy and very cute! She has a great vision and amazing creativity. However, I needed a great basic cut and had a very clear vision, but with just a touch of sass. Linz gave me the best cut I have had in years. She didn't go crazy and cut off too much, I just got an amazing and perfect cut. The next week, having so much confidence in her, I went back for color, which came out equally as good! She really does not only have an amazing talent, but has a great ability to grasp what her clients need and want, and execute that well. I am so happy to have found her and hope to remain a client for years. I am so relieved and excited to have finally found someone I trust!

I always enjoy going to Joie de Vie. It's a cute place with a nice staff, and though located downtown has convenient parking (either on the street or in the nearby parking garage, the latter of which they comp). Mostly, I like going there because of my stylist, Shondi. I started going to Shondi pre-Joie de Vie, and then followed her there. Not only is she friendly but she does a great job. We always talk about what I want, she asks me a lot of questions about specific aspects of what I'm looking for, then gives me a great haircut. Also fantastic is that my cut not only looks good, but grows out great. If I can't make it in in four to five weeks, my hair still looks cute. The salon has a great waiting area, though I've never had to to wait for very long. I definitely recommend Shondi to anyone looking for a new stylist!

I am new to Austin and was lucky enough to meet a friend of Shondi, who recommended her. I was blown away by the decor of the salon, quality of the people and service, the beauty, and great personality of my new favorite haidresser. I have been known to be picky with my hair and I can honestly say, "I am extremely happy with my haircut, every time! It's not only the haircut, but the enjoyable experience of great conversation and the welcoming atmosphere at the salon. The whole experience is truely priceless!!

Joie de Vie is a salon with creativity. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with sincerity and professionalism. the salon bleeds originality and expertise. My personal favorite Stylist Shondi Pugh, is the reason why I go there and is the true definition of the vibe at Joie De Vie. Very friendly, very professional and listens to the customer and understands what you want to do with your hair, whether it be just a trim or a complete makeover. Shondi blends personality with design and comes up with creations that fit your style. Go in for a visit and ask for Shondi, you will not be disappointed

Joie de Vie has indeed been a joy of life! I look forward to going in, as it is usually the highlight of my week. The staff is very friendly, smiling, and always happy to see me. I have been going to see Shondi for hair cut and style for a little over a year now and she is the best I've experienced in Austin! From what I've had at other places, a haircut usually involves about 15 minutes and clippers, but not with Shondi. She takes her time to wash, cut, and style my hair while always keeping an engaging conversation. When I walk in I'm always offered a drink (wine, beer, water) for free :) and I have never once had to wait, they are ALWAYS ontime! Since my first visit I have recommended JDV time and time again to friends and coworkers, and now I'm recommending them to you! So go and find out what a "joy of life" the Joie de Vie salon really is.

I happened across Joie de Vie over a year ago at a friend's suggestion. Shondi happened to have an opening that night to color my hair and I instantly fell in love. She has exclusively cut my hair for almost 17 months now and there has never been a moment where I didn't just say "wow" when she was done. Her creativity is astounding, her attention to detail is beyond anything I've ever seen and she is an even more wonderful person. Sometimes, I schedule appointments just because I want to talk to her; she's better than a therapist :) I've also had a great massage, a wonderful 1 hour manicure/pedicure, and several gentlemen's facials that were relaxing as well as helpful. I highly recommend any service Joie de Vie offers... from top to bottom, this is a well managed, well run, and exceptional quality day spa!

I see stylist Shelli Cain and she is AMAZING!!! You can describe any look to her and she will not only grasp your concept but then create exactly the look that you are after!! I have hair that is a little more on the challenging side, and she definitely takes that into account. Her highlights are awesome, always very precise and perfectly placed. Oh, and the best part about Shelli is that she is hilarious. She'll have you cracking up with funny stories of her cat and she is just all around a treat to see. I would give her 10 stars if I could. Go see her...and don't forget to ask for a nice relaxing glass of vino. Emily - Austin, TX

I visited Joie de Vie spa for the first time this past Sat, my niece talked me and my sister in to going in for "spa week" ! What a treat ! I had a facial- this too was my first experience. Mariee, the Esthetician, was great ! Her room was very comfortable and she was very good at explaining what she would be doing during the appointment. It was very relaxing and I left with my face feeling wonderful! She also had alot of at home tips and advise- As far as customer service : even though it was a Sat, she kept to her schedule and I was seen in a timely manner, while waiting everyone else was attentive to me and made sure I was comfortable and not ignored. I will definitely be going back !

I would just like to reccomend Esthetician and make-up artist Mariee. I first recieved her services when I was having severe problems with acne. Not wanting to take medication to rid my face of this horrible condition, Mariee counseled me in changing my lifestyle, in the way i eat and care for my face. She would just look at my face and tell me, "ok, today we need to do this" or " I can tell you havent been drinking water" . She created a personal plan just for me to clear up my skin! Having tried EVERYTHING else for the the last 7 years, I was skeptical. My treatment is not over, but my results have been miraculous!!! Mariee is an expert!! My acne was much like a disease and very painful, I am forever grateful to Mariee for helping me work towards great skin I thought i could never have. Her work has given me confidence, I dont need to try and hide my face. Whether you need a facial, make-up application, Anything, go to this Amazing woman, even if just for conversation! What... Apparently they have new owners who are making alot of improvements. I was offered wine as I sat and waited in the cafe. Marie came and got me and took me downstairs where the spa is. Her room was so cozy and comfy. She was very friendly and personable and made me feel very comfortable. Her facial was amazing!! I was so relaxed and my skin was glowing! I visited Joie de Vie today because a friend told me that she received a flyer that for an introductory offer of $80! Not only that but if you brought a friend, they got a free session. So we decided to split the cost and each paid $40. I was a little apprehensive because I never received acupuncture before. The acupuncturist, Alison, was so sweet, she made it easy to open up about my goals for acupuncture. I have very severe anxiety and have gained 25 pounds in the last year because of it. I will recommend Alison to everyone. I am no longer apprehenisve of acupuncture. Try it and bring a friend! What do you have to lose?

My friend's wife recommended Shondi at Joie de Vie. After going through an array of horrible salons and stylists I decided to give Shondi a shot mainly because I trusted my friend?s wife. Fortunately, Shondi did not let me down. SHE IS AMAZING! She listens to what you want and offers suggestions. If you don?t like her suggestions she does exactly what you do want no questions asked. Also, I have virgin hair (no hair color). She suggested we try a subtle light brown. Because I trust her I agreed. We started off very low key and I LOVE IT! I plan on going back and getting more coloring done. I highly recommend Shondi. She is a delight to talk to, she listens to your thoughts and ideas and she does a wonderful job. You won't be disappointed.

had been given a gift certificate for a salon/day spa downtown and decided to use it yesterday evening. I wanted to pass along to everyone that this place is HORRIBLE. I received the worst eyebrow wax I have ever had (in at least fifteen years of doing so!) The individual who did it was apparently the only person at the salon capable of a brow wax, because I had to wait 45 minutes for her, and then I specifically told her that I like the shape and length of my brows and just needed a clean up. The wax was too hot, and it took some of my skin off, so I have scabs. (gross, sorry). I also have about one half of the eyebrows I used to. She didn't just clean them, they are practically picked clean off. Instead of applying pressure or something cooling to relieve the discomfort after waxing, she took a dry paper towel and wiped, repeatedly over the same irritated area (imagine it being like when you have a cold and your nose is finally rubbed raw...) I had to stop at 7-11 on the way... Read more

I went to Joie de Vie on Saturday for the first time. Two of my co-workers get their hair done by Shondi, and they referred me with the utmost praise for her. I've had the same hairstyle for more than 10 years and have never done highlights or anything adventurous with my hair. Needless to say, I was terrified when I went there planning to get a new look. Shondi took great care of me! We looked at the pictures of the look I wanted, and she made recommendations based on my face and head shape, to ensure that the style suited me perfectly. We decided that highlights would really make the look pop. I was nervous...but the end result is fabulous! I'm so pleased with my new look, and I'm thankful that I was referred to Shondi. She is AWESOME! I highly recommend her, especially if you're going for a completely new look. Thanks, Shondi! The salon is really cool too. I have the kind of hair that people stop me on the street to ask about. Although credit should be given to my parents, the rest goes to Shelli. I am extremely picky about who does my hair as it's long, curly, and, I guess you could say, is sort of my signature. I lived in NYC and, only one stylist there compared to Shelli. If you want someone who really truly listens while being honest and then does a fabulous job to boot, you should try Shelli. She's done my hair for 3 years now and I don't know what I'd do without her! Very talented. And she's fun to talk to as well. The salon is great because you can relax, drink a little wine, and.....well....let your hair down! Shelli, thank you! Lisa L

I just recently moved to Austin about 2 months ago from Los Angeles. I have been with my hair stylist there for 6 years, who is very well known. I was extremely nervous about finding a new hair stlyist, as I am really picky. But my hair stylist in L.A. recommended Michelle at Joie de Vie. I went to Michelle for the first time last week and was EXTREMELY impressed!!! She did highlights and a haircut. I am a blonde, and she made it more dimensional looking. And she gave a really great hair cut. Another crazy thing, people have been stopping constantly about my hair, trying to figure out who does it. I AM VERY VERY EXCITED!!!

I was new to Austin and in desperate need of a hair cut and color correction. My last cut was months before and had been in no way a good cut to begin with, add that to the color- naturally dirty blonde lifted to a platinum and not a nice platinum; a bleached out, chemical mess (The man took it upon himself to give me this color). So whoever got lucky with my appointment had their hands full. And I got Charlie; at first glance I definitely had second thoughts but I gave him a chance and haven?t come close to regretting it. He took me from platinum to a great auburn but the ends of my hair wouldn?t take the color since they had been so fried by the guy previous. So we decided (he recommended) to take some length off. I was severely worried having already been at one of my shortest lengths but decided that it would be a serious improvement from the not-so-luscious locks I had; I told him to just go for it. What came out of it was amazing; short and funky yet still very professional!... Read more

Crystal is the best in the Austin area! I first saw her a couple of years ago after a botched hair job by another stylist - she completely saved the day and has never stopped doing great hair ever for me since then. Crystal is so precise with her cuts, listens well to what you want and executes on that perfectly. She takes pride in every cut, even remembering what we've done in the past. She has great suggestions that fit your personality if you aren't sure what to do. Crystal is incredibly fun, friendly and an amazing hair stylist. I have never been more satisfied with a hair stylist in all of the Austin area. Best ever!!!

I travel 160 miles round-trip just to have the experience of having Yvette Ancira cut my hair. One of my requirements is for my haircut to look good even four months after the cut - Yvette's work meets this criterion. She was trained by Jose Eber - she takes her work seriously - and she is nice to be around. I have had my hair styled by the best in Baltimore, Dallas, and Austin - Yvette is the star of the group. So, if you are a man who likes a good haircut/style - go on down to Sixth Street and meet Yvette at Joie de Vie.
