Regardless of how well this may work, the day that I choose to cure a hangover by getting an IV drip is the same day that I quit drinking entirely.

I have never tried this, but have had times where I had wish I had an IV. I truly think this would help a hangover to the max! I wish i had the supplies...then again....i would prob drink more knowing i would never have to have a hangover again.

I am also a Medic and have been for some time and have tried several ways to cure a hangover and have found that this method is the best and i have tried it myself several times with great results. Now this method is really only for those of you who have access to the materials. Recipe as follows: 1.) Start off with 1000 ML of Normal Saline via IV. (AC vein is best) 2.) start with half an amp of D50 (dextrose). Or about 15 grams 3.) Give 0.5 mg of Epinephrine 1:10,000 4.) This part is tricky as it is hard to find, but if you have a way to get it without getting into trouble then give the person 0.5 mg of Thyamine.(This is often given to alcoholics in the hospital to help super metabolize ETOH or alcohol in the liver.) 5.) Follow all of this up with 500 ML of Normal Saline. I have had great results and 9 out of 11 people said that they felt 100 % within 3 minutes of the procedure and the 2 others said they felt better half way through the procedure. Again...i str... It works a charm i did it a few days ago, normal Heartmans works a treat but i think if you had gone totaly crazy (and i have never been this drunk but have given this to a PT who tells me it worked a charm) the perfect recipy would be 500ml of Heartmans normal seline, 500ml of glucose solution, some cyclozine and 1gm of paracetamol. that should counteract all the symptons 100%

Sounds effective according to the posts here - But really? How much of a stuttering, stammering drunk do you have to be, to go so far as to give yourself a friggin' IV?

Learned this one in the military. We'd head out into the field, most of the lads having drunk til they couldn't see the night before. Once we'd gotten a good bit out and away from the offciers, out came the IV's. It's truly miraculous. Some of them were puking and on the verge of passing out, five minutes later they were right as rain.

I'm a medic and access to IV fluid is easier than people think. It can be purchased over the internet becuase an angiocatheter is not considered a needle by health boards. If you know what your doing (and i stress this strongly), IVs do not hurt and take as little as 30 seconds to hook up. I have started IVs on people in the E.R. and they didnt even know that i stuck 'em. Either way, with a quick drip rate, salin provides salts and water instantly to the body. If your going to use IV fluids, take a couple multi-vitamins before you pass out if you can remember. this will do its part to counteract toxins released by the liver during alcohol breakdown. Put an IV on top of that and you'll be absolutely good to go in 30 minutes. Dont let people tell you its pathetic to hook an IV up...if you know what you're doing, you know it's very non-invasive and extremely effective.

Intravenous fluids definitely help with the effects of alcohol poisoning. Rehydration is key for preventing the head-pounding headache, and an I.V. replenishes your system faster than just water. But unless the person truly needs a hospital visit, it makes more sense to rehydrate with a sports drink or several glasses of water than having a vein jabbed open. You never want to trust an amateur to do this extreme method, since the procedure can be unpleasant enough as it is.

this is not available to john and jane q public but the message here is rehydration!!!!! alcohol is dehydrating....look at the line outside the ladies room!!!!!! a hangover is severe dehydration and sometimes too much smoke (1st or 2nd hand). if you have access to IV fluids go for it! if not, drink as much water, gator aid, or any no caffeine no alcohol beverage as you can!

My girlfriend's parents are both in medicine and, when they were younger, they used to give each other IVs to cope with hangovers at work. Apparently it's pretty tough to beat. But I think I'd feel kind of silly sitting around with an IV in my arm just to recover from a night of drinking. I'd feel guilty or something.

If you are at the point of going to the emergency room because you are so sick from drinking, then I would suggest to stop drinking all together...this cannot be a good thing ! However I do imagine that it probably does work well...

A friend of a friend of mine had a boyfriend who was a paramedic. After a night of drinking, he would hook her up to an IV. Apparently, works like a charm for rehydration. It does seem a little excessive to have to stick a needle in your arm to feel better though...

I could see Homer Simpson stumble into an emergency room demanding an IV.
