Inspector Dalgliesh

If you enjoy P.D. James (AKA Baroness James of Holland Park), you will enjoy these dramatizations although the replacement for Roy Marsden as Dalgliesh is a little less dynamic.

Of all shows involving mysteries the P.D. James series of Inspector Dalgliesh are very well written and intelligent. The show is an acquired taste and while the mysteries are brilliant they carry a strong dialogue with limited action. Roy Marsden is great.

If you are looking for a mystery series with riveting action and suspense.... keep looking. I purchased the "Essential P.D. James" 13 DVD set and struggled to finish every one of the 8 movies without dozing off. The extended, wordy dialog makes these tedious to watch and the plot develops very slowly. Marsden's Dalgliesh is too mild mannered for my taste [a real wimp]! Try the Midsomer Murders if you want a good murder mystery series.

The intensity of Inspector Dalgleish'charcater is refreshing in a mystery. I like the way the mystery unfolds and solved.

A true mystery without the car chases, sex, and boring details. What is showing is required in a mystery.
