I think most people will agree that what they did was horrible and in doing it these losers disgraced the country, the military and made total idiots of themselves in the process. But as someone else already pointed out - it wasn't as if they beheaded them on TV and then put photos of it up on the Internet. This wasn't murder. It was extremely low class and shameful. Court-martialing and a reasonable jail sentence - not life behind bars.

I don't really think it was abuse so much as humiliation. American and other hostages are abused and tortured by the Iraqis. Don't forget Nick Bergor Jessica Lynch.

Of course not. But I'd like to get my hands on those bastards that cowardly lopped that guy's head off on camera.

Not life in prison, but a few years and a few special jail cell photographs will do fine. I think we ought to show the soldiers what exactly they did to the POWS was wrong. Hefty fines and some prison time.

Life, no. Prison time, quite possible. They will be tried according to the UCMJ, and have the right to legal counsell and a fair triall. If they are convicted, they will be properly and fairly punished. Expect a plotline simulair to this next season on JAG!

Not life in prison, but a significant time to be sure. If we're going to be an example-setter in this world, we must demonstrate that we hold these abusers accountable for their actions.

We need to see what happens at the various courts martial and/or trials before we decide who is guilty of what and what their sentences ought to be.

The soldiers and everyone up along the way of the chain of command needs to answer for this, Rumsfield included. Seeing the pictures on the news yesterday for the first time (ad nauseum, courtesy of FOX news while I was trying to eat dinner at a restaurant), and knowing that THOSE were the "family-friendly" ones, and reading that other pictures depict sexual abuse and sex between soliders, I feel sick that these [email protected]#holes are seen as representing all Americans all over the world. They have caused irreparable damage to the nation's image and endangered the lives of Americans all over the world. And, no, I don't buy that "I was just following orders" crap, either--yeah, the nazis used that one in the Nuremburg trials, too. Wheter or not life is a justified sentence or not, I don't know, I don't know how extreme their tortures went (all I know is it's a lot worse than what the public has seen), but hopefully they will be brought to justice.

Let's put these wackos in a fair trial and allow the jury to decide their fates. ... Frankly, I think they do deserve life in prison; the graphic material explains it all. ... There are more prisoners who do harmless things like deal drugs, steal refrigerators and cars who have harsher sentences than people who abuse human rights.

There should be some kind of sentence but "life" is quite excessive. In my state you can get 25 years for torture. More important is finding out how high on the command chain this all went, and holding *those* people accountable, if they knew about and ordered the abuse.

No way. What they did is wrong and they will be court-martialed. None of those prisoners have been killed. It seems to me you are equating what they did with the beheading of an American hostage. Get your priorities straight.
