I just renewed my acquaintance with this place after an absence of over two decades, and I found myself wondering what the hell I'd been staying away for. It's very old style Vegas and proud of it, with none of the faux hauteur of the Strip joints, and better food than most of them too. Founded in 1958, this was a hangout of the Rat Pack and other members of the famous and infamous society and visitors to the city. Fully embracing it's history, the menu lists Tony "The Ant" Spilotro right beside the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Dean Martin as regular customers. (Only a true cynic would observe that the difference between the gangsters and the celebrities was sometimes a matter of perspective.) I took my son there this past weekend and we got treated like we owned the joint, with waiters bantering cheerfully and telling stories, lies and jokes about the place. It was more like going to visit friends you hadn't seen in a long time than going to a restaurant. The food was great, st... Read more

This is definitely a very high end steakhouse just west of the strip. It is one of the original steakhouses that the Rat Pack used to hang ...

This one is a tough call for me. You cannot come to Las Vegas w/out eating @ Hugo's Cellar downtown. In the same breath, if you're in town, then you need to go to Golden Steer. It is cut from the same cloth as Hugo's yet it is entirely different (and probably better food). If your only experience with high-end steakhouses is Ruth's Chris or the Vegas Strip experience, then you will be absolutely floored by Golden Steer. A reviewer noted he went for the first time one night and was treated like a regular on night two says it all about this place. I can go 6 months between trips and still get treated like a VIP. You still have to go to Hugo's first but you cannot miss Golden Steer.

I cannot stop raving about it.........that was definitely the best steak I have ever had in my life! I am a meat and steak lover, have probably eaten more steaks than the average person in my life, and have cooked and eaten many great steaks in my life but, that was an absolutely divine rib eye steak. I have never had such a flavorful, tender and juicy steak in a restaurant or anywhere for that matter. I cannot wait to go back there to have another mouth-watering steak! Out of the five days of dining in Vegas, that was the best meal I had out of the entire trip, and Vegas has a lot of great food................. (P.S. I have been to the Capital Grille.) The service was excellent and friendly. The ambience was warm and relaxed....the way dining should be.

I travel a LOT and have been to a lot of famous steak houses. This is the best one I have seen. The food was superb, the best martini in Vegas [watch out for the huge size], the history of the place is old Vegas royalty [Sinatra, Dino, S. Davis Jr., etc] and the staff really seems to care that you came there to dine. I just went to the GS for the first time this week and they treated every customer like a celebrity. I liked it so much I went back the next night and was greeted like a regular. I will return to the GS on every future trip to LV. I hope it stays open with this quality another 50 years!

This place is incredible! I didn't know it was the oldest steakhouse in Vegas and was pleasently suprised my first time there. Very classy, the old Vegas in the movies. Unique in that there are plaques over booths with celeberties names that used to or still dine there. There are a lot of great places to eat in town, but you don't want to miss this!

Romantic restaurant that hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra and Elvis serves grilled steaks, chicken, chops and fresh fish.

We went to the Golden Steer for my brother's pre-wedding dinner with a group of about 18 people. They service was wonderful. They were very attentive and the food was awesome. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. I will definitly go back the next time I am in Vegas.
