Of the three times I had been to the jackalope, the majority bartenders have been very rude and unattentive. A bartender friend of mine whome works there warned me that in order to get good service, you must look like a greaser/rockabilly girl. She wasnt kidding. The last time I went there, I asked for a fat tire. the bartended informed me that they did not carry fat tire and then asked what else i would like. While I was deciding she yelled at me for not having though of a second choice already and then stormed off. I stood there for about ten minutes waiting for her to come back (the bar was empty) but she never did. Every female bartender I have encountered there has been very rude.

Some of my favorite bar food is served here! (in the back, not the pizza.. never the pizza). The burgers and waffles fries are awesome, the fried pickles are noteworthy and quesadillas rock. The crowd is always locals, service, music and tattoo industry. Music is (usually) good. Always have great movie flicks goin on in the background. sometimes the bartenders just dont care enough to serve you immediately.. but i'm low maintenance and patient so dont really worry about it. Since its a popular bar their specials dont usually go on the entire night like a lot of the other crap bars on 6th but thats okay.

The Jackalope definitely one awesome bar, with amazing food. The regular kitchen has great bar food, the best burgers around. The pizza place in the front makes a fine thin crust pizza with a fantastic sauce and a some really great and unusual toppings ( pulled pork, blue cheese and bacon, and a chicken caesar salad pie are some I have tried). This place is a far cry from the mostly crappy pizza in Austin. The bar scene at The Jackalope doesn't neatly fit into a single category as most downtown bars do - all sorts of people rub shoulders here. It can get really busy at times, but there are always places to sit, and the drinks are strong and cheap. The staff and owner are really cool and friendly. Me and the girls favorite spot to go out!

I am new to this City Search thing, but me and the band passed through Austin on tour and I wanted to let other musicians and travelers who may not be familiar with Austin where to go eat and drink. The locals already flock to this place, but we were lucky enough to stumble (literally) upon it. The rest of 6th Street pretty much sacks, but this place is worth passing through to get to. In a nutshell: Big bar, cool velvet paintings, nice patio ( you have to smoke outside in Austin), TWO kitchens, hot and really nice bartenders, CHEAP drinks, fast service, tons of beers to choose from. Your money goes a long way here, and the Chipotle Bacon burger is not to be missed. I wish they did not have to close at 2am, but they told me they open everyday before noon, so I guess that is long enough. I will be back, and you should not miss this place when in Austin. Freddy

I've never had to wait so long for a drink and it wasn't the volume of customers that was the problem, it was the apathy of the bartenders. They'd walk around looking at the ground as to not make eye contact with anyone. The staff is also very rude. I'm from a small town and miss real dive bars. This is just a trendy spot with decent music, but nothing dive bar about it. This is Austin- too many good bars to choose from. Not wasting my time at this place ever again.

I am from up North, and miss day-time drinking. This bar has it, and really great food as well. The pulled pork pizza is my favorite - nice thin crust, and sounds wierd, but topped with a cold cabbage/slaw. Incredible.....My new home away from home.

This place is the real deal. Best bar food and pizza downtown, cheap drinks, great staff, fantastic music. What more could you want? It is a little quirky and edgey, but hey, it is an Austin bar that caters to a crowd that knows what they want, and get it here. Can be a little crowded, even early, but that is kind of why I go out, anyway.

jackalope, i tried. multiple times. but your pretentious, rude wait staff, horrible music and sound system, dirty chairs and tables, and mediocre food just isn't doing it for me anymore. and now you've hired some little dude with the worse napoleon complex and the IQ of a water bottle to take food orders. such an angry little fellow! i guess i would be, too, if i looked like him and made seven bucks an hour. meh. won't be going back.

Awesome music...awesome chili dogs..Had one bad experience with the "braided beard" bartender who got all defensive (emo-daddy issues) when i asked him what the beer specials were because i was low on cash at the time, but other than that this place is pretty cool. Good place to take folks from out of town who want to see the people who make Austin what it is known for.

I try and drink there everytime I am downtown! Great Drink specials and always a good feeling. The music is my kind of music and the bar tender, Jason, is always in good spirits and always brings me my drink in good timing! Highly recoomended to the local punkrocker, psychobillier, metal head, and Oi!sters.

Everyone told me to go here when I first moved here. Now it seems like this is my second home. This is the best bar in austin with great drinks, and even better people. Thanks Jason for making an awesome bar with my most favorite burger in town.

I just have to say that the Chipotle bacon cheesebuger is an artery clogging monster!! BUT ITS SOOOO SO SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! It makes you have nasty burps hours later. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT. This is definatley the place for rockabillies and you girls that all try to look like Betty Paige and have the same anchor tattoos and swallows and nautical stars. This bar has the NASTIEST BATHROOMS IN TEXAS! Not too far from those of the Casino el Camino hahahaha. I still love this place though. Good place to get away from yuppy retards.

Great bar, great drinks and HOT bartenders! The people are friendly, save for some posers that think they're tough, and the cheesy movies they screen are awesome. Viva the Jackalope!

In Short The pulsating heart of Sixth Street now has a grungy addition with red walls, a black background and a large mounted bust of a Jackalope inviting stumbling stragglers into its rowdy den. Nudie pictures of women line the wall leading to a small performance stage, and the lights dangling in front of the bar playfully boast girlie covers. The crowd is edgier than usual for this area, mainly comprised of men and women who look like they know how to take care of themselves, but the bar is spacious and accessible.

They have great sandwiches, but my idea of a tasty sandwich would be a little slice of me wedged between Oliver and Garrett. Ooh la la!

Great place to hang out, play a little pool and drink a cold beer! My fav : Firemans Four (not too bitter, has a refreshing citrus taste. ) This is a cool little hang out other than the normal bars that infest sixth!!!

was bummed when cucaracha's closed (ok it's still open in the back, but it's not really the same thing) but this works out okay. the burgers here are great, not as good as casino's, but the kitchen service is a million times better. bartenders are friendly and atmosphere is rad. highly recommended.

I've only been here a few times, but it brings back good memories because I met a really great guy here while sitting at the bar. The door guy and bartenders are always friendly, unlike most places on 6th street. I like the crowd here--no frat boys! Thank God for that!!

Kept hearing about this place, so last time I was in Austin on tour I checked it out. This is definitealy the coolest bar in Austin, and the kitchen rocks out some very tasty food as well. Please come build one in L.A.

I have to admit I was a little aprehensive on my first visit. The bar is a little dark, and the people seemed a little bit on the wild side compared to other bars downtown. We decided to stay becouse of all the hot "bad boys", and were surprised by the friendliness of the bartenders and the amout of comfortable seating at the bar and surrounding booths. We found a super cool patio out back where you can smoke. I don't usually eat when I am out drinking, but all the food looked really great. The owner was really sweet, and the door guy got us a cab and made sure we got in safely ( the drinks are strong - try the Helldorado)This may be our new favorite bar.
