And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. The above is from the King James Version which reads different than other versions. Remember Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. If we know the Truth(Jesus), He(Jesus) will make (to make something is to change its form as from sand into glass) you free(Free from sin, sin will not have dominion over you). Jesus will wash away your sin making you free from the sting of death. Other versions say "the truth will SET you free. The word set has a much different meaning. It is like a pigeon being let go or set fee. To MAKE something is to change its form.

"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" One of the most famous verses of the Bible, also one of the most misapplied. Truth is not based on some individually tailored truth, nor is it based on a Gnostic, new age type of truth about the cosmos, the soul, or it's relation to the body. It is about holding to Christ's teachings and acknowledging Him as the redeemer of this world. Freedom ultimately comes from this key truth. This describes freedom not only in a socio/political context, but spiritually so.

...and John 8:32(b) paragraph 2 subsection 1 says that Not withstanding, the above applies to the party of the first part wherein they are a dues paid member of a recognized Christian denomination in good standing and have waived all rights to the benefits heretofore available to members of other religions, sects, cults and community services clubs including but not limited to the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Kinsman, Knights of Columbus, Free Masons, Illuminati and the New York Yankees Fan Club.

Though pretty straightforward, this advice is generally misunderstood - as are most of the teachings of Yeshua, the Master Teacher - by those who've made a superstitious religion out of his wisdom. Hint: They don't call The Devil, "Father of Lies" for nothing.

John 8:32 cannot be separated from 8:31(b) 31...Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Freedom, true freedom comes from the truth, and the truth is contained in Jesus Christ's teachings. His teachings lead to knowledge of the truth, and knowledge of the truth leads to freedom.

John 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. 30 As he spake these words, many believed on him. 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. When we believe the truth about who Jesus is and what He accomplished on the cross (v 28,29), then do those things that He has commanded (v31) we will be His disciples and be set free from our bondage to sin (v33-35) forever (v36). 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. What a liberty we have in Christ!

This verse says 'Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.' This is so true and it is encouraging for someone who is feeling guilty or is caught up in sin. Because if they just confess their problem to God, no matter how shameful it is, they will be set free. It also helps me to accept Bible verses that I may have felt a little condemmed over because it basically says that these verses arn't there to condemn or inhibit us, but to free us.
