 | LadyJesusFan777 (34) 02/19/2008 | It is needed at times, but I wouldn't call it essential to happiness.

 | Donovan (129) 03/09/2005 | I've got to get this occasionally. Everyone needs some quiet time to relax. In todays world it is harder to find but you must take the time to avoid a breakdown.

 | EschewObfuscation (61) 12/08/2004 | I'm with PBeav, if peace and quiet means my children aren't there, forget it. I seem to need mayhem and chaos to be happy, at least that's what the last 15 years have been like. I like the idea of growing old violently, loudly, defiantly relinquishing control of my dexterity, my balance and my verbal restraint. I wish I could count the number of people who have commented, he's the worst of the bunch after a tumble with one or two (or all) of my kids. When my wife last said, wipe that smile off your face, Mister I stopped smiling, like that (fingers snapping). Who knew? When all my children are home at the same time, we sit at the breakfast table until three in the afternoon. I feel wealthy those days, but I really am every day. Keep the peace and quiet, I'll take the cacophony.

 | Aneiwen (0) 12/08/2004 | Definitely something you need. Sometimes the weight of the world just leaps up on your shoulders and demands a piggy back ride, and you need peace and quiet to help you get through it.

 | irishgit (138) 12/08/2004 | My home office is an oasis of quiet and comfort in a world of frenzy and noise. I love it there, and I love the pastoral quiet of my urban garden. I can bear noise, but I need places to retreat and regroup.

 | Bird808 (52) 12/08/2004 | Sometimes you need a balance when things get too much so peace and quiet can be essential, but to require it all the time is way too boring.

 | Jello (3) 04/25/2004 | Lots of activity, a busy day, and things like that are fun to a point, but sometimes you need to just be at peace and sit and think about what's going on in your life. The old cliche' that silence is golden is very true. Sometimes people get to caught up in the stress of day to day life and it gets to them. You are never to busy to stop and just relax and enjoy your own company

 | Molfan (57) 04/22/2004 | I enjoy times of peace and quiet. It is nice to just sit and have quiet times. with the tv off. maybe some music on low. it helps me to calm down especially if I have had a hectic day.

 | freebird_0128 (5) 04/20/2004 | I live in a large, raucous house and I have a mind that is constantly churning. The wheels never stop. Those few moments when peace and quiet take over and I can take a few clear breaths- true contentment.

 | kamylienne (77) 04/19/2004 | Depends on my mood--sometimes I like the radio blasting, going 80 with the windows down on an open road, while other times I need the perfect stillness of a silent night sky. A little bit of noise is just as essential as a little peace and quiet.

 | scarletfeather (47) 04/19/2004 | Peace and quiet is certainly pleasant, but I don't know if a steady diet of it would lead to total happiness. However, I find it preferable to noise and chaos.

 | Enkidu (37) 04/19/2004 | I think it was Schopenhauer who said that a person's intelligence is inversely proportional to the amount of noise he is able to tolerate. I know some people get happy listening to deafening music, racing dirt bikes, or blowing things up, but I'm not one of them.
