Shoddy merchandise, business practices that play fast and loose with standard ethics, poor labor relations (leading to bad customer service) and a longstanding and wide spread record of being a poor corporate citizen. I won't set foot in the place.

Classic example of a drone. This person can not think for themselves. Walmat fed, clothed and got water to the Katrina victoms better than our own government. This loonie should just stay in their room and chant, "Oooo-Baaah-Maaah, Oooo-Baaah-Maaah".

Ok not to be mean or anything but wal-mart has some good stuff but they are jsut not good for the earth. They are killing the earth. I watched this show on tv, and OMG it was very in formal about not good things about wal-mart.
hellagood1980 12/10/2008
Yes while it's true Wal mart can have some low prices, If you shop around you can find even better deal on stuff. I took my daughter school shopping and spent less at aeropostale then I would have at walmart. Not to mention They want you to shop there and buy the more expinsive stuff and claim to be there for the low-to-middle class families but they did away with layaway because they said they lost money. I think they lost more money this christmas because of the fact they didnt have layaway. I shopped at Kmart because they did have layway. It may cost a little more but I could make payments on it. If they would have been smart about it, they could keep the free layaway but do it like Kmart. If you cancel then charge a fee. And if something is in layaway and it gets marked down on the floor, you dont get the markdown price since you put it in layaway before the sale. Im just sick of these BIG corperations saying they are all about the little people when they are not.

I LOVE working for this company as do almost every other associate I know. Get the facts! Why is this company making billions of dollars in profit if they are so "bad". If you want to persuade people to think as you do, get the TRUE facts. Once I did I was amazed and continue to be everyday.
jgruwell 10/29/2007
Everyone needs to see the Documentory on Wal-Mart. It will make you never want to shop their again. It really is an evil empire. And i have made a point of not shopping their or at Sam's Club. See the movie and you will do the same.
X Factor Z 10/29/2007
Yes they are everywhere and probably puts most mom&pop; operations out of business, and underpays their employees, etc. However, their prices are very low, and WalMart is needed for people on tight budgets.
Donovan 05/14/2007
Wal-Mart does cause some grief for small business when they come into town but they do offer a lot of good things to the community. They can undercut the small business person's bottom line price but the consumer is the one who benefits. Anyone who is on a budget like a young family starting out depends on stores like Wal-Mart to survive in today’s economy. The small business has to raise its selling price because of overhead and the price is passed on to the consumer. I wish there was a solution to help small business but paying higher prices to keep them in business is not the answer.
numbah16tdhaha 05/12/2007
They just reported their worst sales in 27 years from what I just heard on the radio. Guess the boycott a-holes are starting to become effective... UPDATE: I won't lay off of them. They push companies around to push down their prices by denying them shelf space and treat their employees like dirt.
brn2ovrcm 05/12/2007
People need to lay off of Walmart.I find myself shopping there to really get the best deal I can and conserve cash so that I have a budget.Walmart does a lot of community sponsered drives for school needs and other local community programs. They provide a healthy tax revenue in our local cities. They provide a lot of work for a good amount of people who might not otherwise have a job.I get that they are not union, but nobody seems to notice that their competitors aren't either. There was a few isolated incidents of workplace harassment and some suits concerning workplace prejudice(concerning female advancement when it was wrong for them to have been overlooked for an appropriate advancement),but those were isolated incidents and anyplace where you find people working together, you are going to find those kind of things happening. The people in my hometown are so worried about "growth out of control",they need to get over themselves.I built many freeways, subdivisions and commercial building sites over the last 32 years, and although the industry has slowed down temporarily,I don't see that continuing for long.People have complained about growth for years.Growth gives way to opportunities for more jobs, improved streets and highways, and guess what! Walmart always provides the necessary road and highway improvements in their proximate surroundings as a responsible area business will as a condition for attaining the permits to get started in the first place. The next time you drive by one of these stores, notice all the landscaping, steetlights and road improvement that are all a matter of public record(if you think I'm just whistling in the wind). Some of the same people who say they don't like Walmart can be found in the Walmart stores whenever they need to purchase a major house appliance, baby items, children's clothes, gardening supplies.I'm happy that we have a Walmart in our town and with a little luck we may also get a supersized Walmart with grocery items too!

Prices are fair, but I have known people that worked (and still do) at Wal-Mart, and from what they say, the company is not very fair to their employees. It's always in the media.
doobiesNhof 05/10/2007
This company is showing signs of a slow but sure downturn based on their track records concerning undercutting the competition, mistreatment of workers, overseas sweatshops and putting "mom and pop" stores out of business in small and large towns alike. I personally NEVER step foot in one because I consider their business practices unethical...

I really like WalMart. I have found numerous clothing items that I receive positive comments on. When they find out that I bought it at WM, they are stunned. I work in an upscale specialty store, and I LOVE telling them where I shop!! Thanks WalMart!
ColtSeries70 03/06/2007
WalMart is a good company. Many Americans shop there because that is what they can afford to buy. They buy in bulk, so they sell things cheap. Their customer service is actually really nice, and they do have great products. Without them, many workers would be unemployed both inside and in other countries. Plus , they have everything! It is a SUPERCENTER. It may not be the fanciest place to shop, and they might not give the best wages, but still- it is awesome. They have Serengeti sunglasses for only $100 and i got Anchorman on DVD for $10! What a steal! The ones in Arizona are even nicer than the ones in California. Walmart is a good company that gets a very bad rap.

If you only knew how bad Walmart associates are treated by customers, maybe you'd give them just a little slack. They are yelled at, called names, laughed at to their faces, physically harmed, (yes - it happens all the time), and treated rudely as though they aren't worth the time it takes to show a smile. It's no wonder that many Walmart associates seem unhappy. "The customer is always right" has gone too far in many cases and it's sad that the general public has come to think of Walmart employees as easy targets for hostility. Being considerate goes BOTH ways in all facets of life. The next time you are shopping at Walmart, if it seems like the associate helping you is in a sub-par mood, look him or her directly in the eye, and with sincerity, ask them how their day has been. You'll be amazed at how relieved the employee will become. I have done this on many an occasion and the floor person or cashier is clearly surprised that someone is actually asking about THEM for a change. Then they bend over backwards to help me and I get excellent service. No, I am not saying that to get good service you have to do this every time. There's been more occasions that I got great service than not, but if I sense the person is down, I'll just try to let them know I see it and care. This is something my mother taught me years and years ago and had nothing to do with clerks and stores, but everything to do with being a nice person - but it relates to every thing in a person's life - get it?
abichara 01/13/2007
I think that this company has been excessively demonized. They're being blamed for all the troubles of rural America for instance, when in actuality the problems there are far more complex. However, the merchandise quality at Wal-Mart is very poor. Customer service is also poor, but that's what you get when you don't offer attractive benefits packages that can make you more competitive with other "big-box" companies like Costco that offer health care benefits to an overwhelming majority of their workers. Wal-Mart certainly does run a stronger profit than any of their competitors, primarily because they don't have a strong benefits packages and because they offer semi-shoddy products at slightly discounted rates to lower-middle income people. That is essentially their business plan, which has yielded positive results for the companies stockholders. For the consumer, that might be another question.
Silver Eagle 252 04/01/2006
Having previously commented on the shopping experience at Wal-Mart (poor customer service), I would like to clarify that as a corporation, a lot of credit must go to Wal-Mart for it's success in the area of profits. Say what you like about the shopping or working experience, Wal-Mart has mastered the art of maximizing economies of scale and maximizing profits. A case study in capitalism, it is a highly competent cash machine. Having said all this, Wal-Mart stores are still not the best places to shop and there's no way I would ever, ever consider employment there.

Best deal in town! Free entertainment to see nasty people, yet you can take your whole family, get a haircut, eat McDonalds, stop by the bank, all while shopping for whatever the hell you want and save money doing it.

walmart. its gone too far! there are leaving every store around them out of business and there prices are so low because they buy cheap crap made in CHINA!! I am proud to say that I have only shopped at walmart a couple of times. the amount of people that shop there is disguising! dont they know what they are doing when they shop there?! there supporting the world's biggest retailer and forcing more of the chinese to be forced into working at a slave shop! and dont even get me started with the lack of parking space! so many people shop at this place that we had to park along the street for a parking space!! people, people something has to be done before walmart is the only standing store left in the nation!!!!

Wal Mart has lowered the cost of living in every city that it has entered in the world. What's wrong with that?
CanadaSucks 07/21/2005
Some things are cheap and convenient- but WAL-MART is giant American corporate trash-culture personafied.
Randyman 07/21/2005
Deservedly or not, Wal-Mart seems to continually suffer from lousy public relations and bad press.
Oldstoreguy 07/18/2005
The hours are convenient, and the prices are cheap. The help is either usually surly or incompetent. Don't expect to find help at a Wally World unless you are standing at the checkout line. A lot of the stuff that Wal-Mart sells is cheaper grade, such as their electronics, and clothing then you will find elsewhere. Unfortunately, Wal-Mart has put all the other large retailers within 40 miles of me out of business, so I have to either drive 50 miles, or shop at Wal-Mart...
dpostoskie 05/20/2005
This corporation is ahead of gas and car companies in revenue AND profit. Yet, it totally f**ks its employees and is gradually sinking the poorer people to new lows. The people who work there can only afford to shop there and its becoming a vicious circle. Wally World is THE single contributor to dividing classes of people. Its pathetic and its flat out WRONG. Greed is at the top of the deadly sins folks.
traderboy 05/20/2005
Poorly thought-out design (dinky electronics sections and haphazard parking lots); staggering array of plastic garbage made by enslaved seven-year-old Laotians; zombie-like stock clerks and butt-ugly cashiers; unwashed hulks shoving rickety, rusted carts in between garish, overpriced tank tops and sweater vests; off-brand groceries that can be had at better stores at better prices; entertainment censored ahead of time (for YOUR convenience); and a spooky geezer half-heartedly trying to get me to come back soon. HOW does this joke of retailing stay in business!?!?!

the walmarts here are pretty clean . the employees are not very friendly i wonder if thats part of their training or its a requirement to get hired cuz you think youd find one that doesnt give the impression you just spoiled their whole day when you ask for help. i also like messin around with the floor walkers especially when they are so obvious its laughable or they annoy because i dont appreciate having a babysitter while i shop. fine if for a minute something might have made them wary but common sense would tell even you if i was going to steal the time i would not choose to do it would be with walmart security so obviously stuck up my but its not what i consider preventive more like harrassment and stupidity. so after i finally am sick of walmart companion i will start walking down an aisle quickly turn around and walk picking items putting them back i will in 10 minutes have done 10 laps around the store . by the time im done they have given up or they have just given up. sometimes if my friend is with me we will quickly separate head in 2 directions just to see how quickly he decides which one he decides to follow and the well quickly circle and do it all over again. its a game to pick them from the customers not ahard a game by no means. its amazing how many young men 18-25 read the labels on shampoo bottles and how long can that really take. iknow i must lead a very boring life if thats what i find entertaining . i assure you that i have many different interests . that just happens to be one of them. i also shop alot if i gave the impression that i must look suspicious if they are always following me. no some times i reverse spots and actually follow them. i know they are just doing their job but their not good at it and walmart has been known to and has been sued for racially picking out who to follow and for wrongfully detaining shoppers.so heres another chapter on what to do at walmart if you get tired of shopping. or you can also set the alarm clocks to all go off about 5 minutes after youve walked away and are on the other side of the store. dont ask how old i am thats not even funny.cuz im very immature for my age at times

About a year ago another Walmart Super Center opened in our town. I go there because it is on the outskirts of town and less trash shop there. I know the word trash may seem harsh but the Walmart on the other end of town is filled with filthy, disgusting social rejects and the quality of the store is to match. The new Walmart IS cleaner and better looking, but 9 times out of the 10 I have been there I have encountered rude employees. I went there to buy a bike for well over $100. The bikes are locked in the rack so I couldnt get it down myself. I got someone to help me and all she did was complain that I had to pick the one on the top shelf didnt I. She then walked it back to lay-away for me but proceeded to complain to every co-worker she encountered along the way about the terrible time she had getting my bike down off the top rack. What? It took her all of 5 minutes. And if it had taken longer, so what? That's HER JOB. Another time a manager was completely rude to me about a mistake HIS employee had made. Another time an employee told my companion to stop playing the video games in the electronics department, even though they are there for people to play and I've seen people play them for well over an hour at a time. He had only been playing for a few minutes! He asked why and she threatned to eject him from the store! Could this be because he was a Hispanic-American with long hair??? I do my grocery shopping there because I DO spend less money and I live paycheck-to-paycheck. If I could afford to shop somewhere else I would. Walmart knows they dont have to have exemplary service. With so many Americans living at or below the poverty line, you'll shop there anyway. When I start to feel sorry for the employees that have the misfortune of working there I remember: it's not misfortune. They CHOOSE to work there. There's a million other low-paying crappy jobs in this country. Walmart's not paying them so much that to take another job would cause thier kids to starve. I also concur with other comments made about the origin of thier products. How many Kathy Lee products are sold there? And wasnt Walmart's big thing Made in America? One time I bought about 20 items from the store and about 3 were made in America. The only thing Made in America at Walmart is capitalism.
KmartShopper 11/16/2004
Wal-mart is a disgrace and so are the people who shop there.
RoverRoad 10/30/2004
I work nights so its about the only place for me to go shopping at 3:00am. Their prices are good but I know of a grocery store that always has lower prices and treats its employees better. I know its all about business and competition, but I just dont like the way Wal-Mart opens its stores in small towns and squeezes out all of the mom and pop stores. The bottom line is you may get low prices and its about the only place to shop for DVDs groceries and lawn furniture at 4am. But, the stuff you buy is a bunch of junk made in sweat shops and 3rd world countries. I bought a sawed shirt there that I only got to wear 3 times before the sleeves ripped, but I only paid $9.00. I bought a DVD player that broke 2 months later, of course I only paid $30.00 for it.

In my life I can proudly say that I've only been to Wal-Mart twice. And both times I had no alternative. It's funny. You walk in and the first thing you see is a huge American flag hanging from the rafters, but upon closer inspection of it's goods, you find few products that were even made in the US... this isn't the only bone I'd like to pick with Wal-Mart, but I don't feel like ranting...
palmeiro 09/01/2004
The walmart i whent to was nasty i saw a rat under a shelf and i told the manger and she didnt care what so ever. i am never going back there again.
DonnaJ 08/25/2004
I worked for Wal-Mart for 10 years and if shoppers even knew half of what I know they would think twice..Yes prices are reasonable but do you shoppers know that alot of the merchandise you are buying are seconds.. Alot of the merchandise coming in is just tososed off the trucks and hope it works when you buy it..Greed is the only thing this company is interested in..MONEY MONEY MONEY..Have you noticed how it started out matching prices and now changed that policy and then how the customer is always right to now no refund unless it the way they think it should be..GREED GREED GREED there onnly concern is what comes into there pocket..But don't feel bad they treat there workers the same way...All for them and the hell with you...I KNOW Oh and to let you know I do not work there anymore I quit..When Mr.Walton died that is when it went all down hill.

How many discrimination suits have they settled so far???
wiley1827 07/17/2004
I once worked in a building where vinyl was heated and formed - and a silk screening area functioned in adjacent room. The fumes never completely cleared out. Only Walmart is able to match that odor - they must have enough plastic biodegrading on the shelves to keep BHT in the air for 50 centuries. I would rather by toothpaste and soap in a porcine crematorium. If Al Gore really cared, he would have Walmart's stores aired out. And for God's sake paint the bldgs and put in some windows - God, these are ugly places!

Yes, Magellan, I am familiar with the case;when I lived in Arkansas, all the cases against Wal-Mart were big news. If we're talking about the same case, a woman seeking promotion was also told to doll up if she wanted to advance in the company.
magellan 06/23/2004
Anyone folowing the sex discrimination suit against Wal-Mart? A class action suit representing 1.6M women who claim that salaries are systematically 10-15% lower for women than they are for men in identical jobs, despite such factors as performance reviews and seniority. This case is a big deal, and could alter the attention that is paid to gender equality in the workplace.
jennifer61 05/29/2004
I like Wal-Mart but they never have any prices on their merchandise and I can never find anyone to help me. Also the Wal-marts in out city are so filthy and crowded but I go because the prices are so low.
