California State Flag

I love the California state flag and the symbol that it "bears".

Ordinarily, I'd knock it down a star for the writing, but this flag is a piece of history.

the flag is cool but, Hollywood celebs wreck the state

I like the red star myself.  Nobody during the Cold War was suspicious of the red star and Russian bear?!

I've always liked the California flag and I'm really not sure why. If the story about the bear and the pear is accurate or not I don't know, but I guess I like the fact that the bear makes absolutely no sense.

Stately bear, proud declaration of california as a republic, vaguely symbolic single star. Sounds like a good flag to me.

I'm partial to bears

Attractive one that I like to see and not be shamed of. It brakes vexillology rlues, but the state still considers itself as a republic, just like four other states consider themselves as commonwealthes.

It's one of the best!

Did you know that the bear on the flag was almost a pear when the flag was being created? There was a mix up when the person making the flag read the description wrong, thinking that pear was bear. The pear was representitive of the state's agriculture.

That bear on the flag got killed in the last forrest fire!

This actually is the first flag I've rated so far that has gotten a rating this high because of the flag itself. The bear is a nice touch and the colors complement each other pretty well.

The bear is okay and at least sets this flag apart. The lettering has got to go.

While distinctive, the state flag of California lacks class and simplicity. The bear is just too sophomoric, and the wording is too prominent.

What do you know, it's Ahhhnold dreaming about his star on the walk of fame. Or, is that his Uncle-in-law looking for the north star as he stumbles home.

Not that big of a fan of California's flag. The Bear doesn't do it for me, although it does make the flag recognizable. Altogether though, an interesting flag to me.

Breaks the basic rules of vexillology by having lettering but I think it's attractive nonetheless.

Pretty good flag, and I like the bear, but I agree with Jed--the lettering bugs me.
