Only flag that does NOT look like it was designed by the chamber of commerce.

By far my favorite!  I'd like to know the history behind the design. Did they consult Picasso?

Great flag, very feudal in its design.

YIKES!  Been awhile since I've seen this, now I remember why!  Hurts my eyes.

It's okay. It is different, which is good, but I feel like I should be at Medieval Times paying too much for a turkey leg when I look at it. I do appreciate the history behind it but I guess it's just not my cup of tea.

Best flag by far unique and of all the flags it has the most history tied into it. The black and gold is the coat of arms for the father's side of the family of George Clavert the 1st Baron of Baltimore and founder of the state of Maryland and the red and white is the coat of arm for the Mother's side very classy, one of a few (mabye Alaska, South Carolina, Califonia, and Texas) that you know once you see it, and the the only one that dosen't look like a state flag (maybe with an exception to Alaska).

This is the best flag of the group--top of the heap! It is historical based on heraldry.

It's an interesting flag with an interesting history, and I do like it, but it does seem like it belongs in midieval Europe.

The best design for a state flag period; very fitting for the best state in the country. Based on the Coat of Arms of Lord Baltimore who founded the Maryland colony in 1632. Reflects the states long history and uses an attractive and authoritative design.

Well, you can't miss this flag. It's unique and clashes with itself, but at the same time it works.

One of a kind. The only U.S. flag based on heraldic emblems. The alternating colors also look cool.

It DOES look like a tv test pattern. I would not want to look at this one waving in the breeze, I think I might get motion sickness.

A great flag. Distinctive, unique, clever, interesting simply to look at, and has a certain middle-ages quality that wouldn't look out of place on a castle.

Easily best. Unique in the States; geometrically complex but not complex as in all the 1s that incorporate actual pictures (e.g., seals), and also distinct from the US flag itself. The seal flags are boring despite using something complex - esp. as almost all of those seal-flags are on blue fields. They all look the same. You can easily sketch the MD flag very accurately; 1 should be able to do that w/colors, not to mention clearly distinguish them from others. It is indeed heraldry-driven, the colors of the Calvert (founding governors) and Crossland families - black&gold; & red&white;, respectively. 1 thing I can be proud about as a MDer; all the other things to be proud of are way in the past.

Very cool flag. Makes me almost wish I lived there.

Yeah, this flag looks like one that should be flown over a castle. Doesn't look bad though.

This is the best State Flag for one of the best States in the country! It's great because it's unique. It's a colorful flag that looks regal. This is the sort of flag you'd imagine King Arthur had flying over Camelot. Simply the best !

Historic, so therefore not terrible, but this thing is hideously ugly.

If I were to rate this flag seriously, it would get a 1, but belonging to a state that has this flag is punishment enough for Maryland citizens. However, it deserves a couple brownie points for being creative.

CastleBee's description is dead on, so funny I convulsed with laughter. This flag is unusual and distinctive, but it is not the most visually pleasing to me.

This is the best of the state flags. It is known instantly because it is so distinctive, and it has such roots in the founding families coats of arms. I think so and I'm from Florida!

Well, it's my state's flag, so here's my take on it: almost dizzying. It kinda clashes. I think castlebee's description is pretty good. But, it's not boring, at least.

I'm sorry, but I think this looks like someone ate a deck of cards and threw up on their bed.

Love the Maryland flag. Very unique and very good looking. No Stars and Bars, and no bland one colored flag with a motto or something stupid on it.

Reaches back to 17th century heraldic symbols (those of Lord Baltimore) for its design. An attractive flag.
